I doubt it would be just a single year of Kane. He's not going to want to move constantly in the twilight of his career.
It's an indication of three things: 1) How good Quick was this year. 2) How other teams realize that a movement of Mrazek is just Toronto realizing the mistake they made with his contract and backpedaling. He was NOT good this year, to put it mildly, and to top it off he is oft-injured. Not the traits someone wants in a goaltender they are trading for.
And 3) Granted, tkecanuck and I are both Kings fans, so it makes sense that one is the one we can talk to the most.</div></div>
Ok, forget Quick. Leafs send Mrazek to Arizona or anywhere else who will take him (with a pick or prospect obviously) and just re-sign Campbell or get a UFA goalie (Fleury, Holtby, Husso, etc)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>That is horrid for LA. One year of Quick (and you want retention also) is supremely better than two years of Mrzarek.
Nashville keeps their three cheap young NHLers.....instead of 10.5m of a combined Nylander and Kerfoot...who are under control for just three years combined and Robertson.</div></div>
Askarov is currently behind Saros (there 27 year old starter whos signed for another 3 years) and possibly Ingram on the depth chart. He is a high draft pick with potential, but not a guarantee.
Jeannot had a good year, but realistically is an undrafted player that had one good year (shooting at just over19%). Scissions is a depth piece who is a legitimate 3rd liner.
Nylander would be to fill the void left by Forsberg if they are unable to resign him. They would also have cap room to extend Kerfoot for a similar price point which is not a bad option for a versatile forward that can play anywhere in their lineup. Robertson is a high draft pick with potential who hasn't had a real shot in the leafs lineup so far. I think there is value there and a potential trade could be made for a prospect goalie, an undrafted forward with one year NHL experience and a 3rd line winger.
This deal would obviously change if they re-sign Forsberg

He's older sure, but since he dictates where he goes with his NMC, you can be sure he'll go to a place he's likely to re-sign for much cheaper in an "end-of-career" type contract.
I dislike Kane and I dislike the Hawks, but the entire organization should fold if they only get 2 prospects and a couple third round picks for Kane.</div></div>
2 of the leafs top prospects. I could switch out the 2 3rds for 1st. I thought that was a bit much for a rental, regardless of how good he is.

I mean they finished with 16 less points than Toronto and are still building for the future. Toronto is already in their "cup window" and it is closing.
So unless they think they are legitimate cup contenders next year, I dont know why they wouldn't at least consider the idea of moving JQ for assets if he is willing to go.
But, I get you LA funs love JQ so nevermind haha

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>I'll give you credit for adding in your top prospects (Robertson and Knies) to the deals instead of lesser guys. But let's go through each one:
Nashville -- After all the swaps, you're asking the Predators to take on $6.67 mil in cap hit (total) and taking away their two best prospects/young players in Jeannot and Askarov. Nylander is a good player, but Nashville still has to try to navigate signing Forsberg in addition to figuring out the path that the organization wants to take. This just isn't something that the Preds could do at all, regardless of what you added. At a certain point, Toronto runs out of assets.
LA -- Mrazek is a cap dump, plain and simple. You're asking the Kings to send you one of their franchise icons who just played an incredible season the year before he likely retires. And you're asking LA to retain on that trade AND add a pick to it. For starters, you've got the pick going the wrong direction. Next, it would have to be significantly better than a 4th rounder. And lastly, it just won't happen. LA isn't trading Quick.
Kane -- You're asking a team to retain nearly 6mil on a star player. For illustration purposes, it took a 1st rounder for Toronto to dump 6mil of Marleau's contract. Kane the player is worth the prospects and picks you have. Kane's retention is worth at least another 1st.
At least, that's how I view the trades.</div></div>
Just to clarify, I have the pick going to LA as part of the Mrazek deal... But if quick is a no go, I'm sure they could find another comparable goalie for short term

I figured with one year left and Cal Peterson being the goalie for the near future, Mrazek could split the load with him for 2 years. Last year notwithstanding, Mrazek has shown previously to be a decent goalie when platooned as a 1a/1b
I mean Toronto could add a prospect or another pick but i didn't think they needed to overpay for JQ at the twilight of his career.
I would imagine the Kings would talk to JQ before any trade happens and see if he is interested in trying to chase a cup, but this is just hypothetical

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>Lol. Do you really think Chicago paid that much to get him if they didn’t already have an extension negotiated?? GMs allow other teams to talk to the players before hand so they can get maximum value. The extension comes after the trade because it has to not because it was negotiated after. Your thought process that we would trade Klinger to you for rental price assumes none of the other teams in the league would pay full price with a contract negotiated ahead of time. Unlikely but hey whatever works for you</div></div>
All I am saying is that a lot of players get traded at the deadline without a negotiated extension in place. Yes, you could possibly get more if a team wants to trade more assets to get the player they can sign for 8 years but in the vast majority of cases, many teams will keep more of their prized assets and just sign the player for 7 years a couple months down the road...
Many times in those extensions, it is for a team that the player already wants to play for. For Seth Jones, he made it clear that there were only a couple teams that he would be willing to sign an extension with. The team willing to pay the most and the team the player wants to play for are also not always the same... Since Klingberg doesn't have a NTC/NMC, he can be traded to literally any team in the league

I am not sure why trading a player as a rental is a fireable offense... Its up to the club trading for the player whether they want/can extend him or if they just use him as a rental.
For example, Chicago traded for Jones with only 1 year remaining on his current contract (this is called a rental) and then Chicago extended him. Had Chicago not extended him, Jarmo Kekäläinen should have been fired... Ya, that checks out

Maybe. But if he can play up into the Leafs top 6 situationally or for injuries, he probably pushes someone else down on the BJ depth chart. He might also be handy to have with an extra year term and reasonable cap hit when you have trouble re-signing Laine this summer

It would be for cap space as well as a player that could likely perform in our top 6. Kerfoot does not get used very much in the top 6 and Ritchie has not looked like a good fit on that line so far. I doubt Kerfoot would have had as good of a playoff if Tavares hadn't gotten hurt and he wasn't moved up in the lineup. A center playing wing on the 3rd line for 3.5 mil doesn't seem like the best fit for the Leafs. We seem to have a surplus of 3rd/4th line players. Plus I feel like a Domi coming to the Leafs would give him an extra bump in performance for the season as well as it being a contract year and playing with M&M. But that is obviously a guess and a risk in this trade.
As for Holloway, even if he isnt an NHL'er, thats what the 2nd is for... Which is likely what he Chariot would cost at the deadline. If Montreal only wants the pick, we can definitely keep him. I would not be heart broken either way. I picked Chariot as he is a more proven and/or capable defenseman than a Dermott.

I didn't realize we had an issue with center depth... Matthews, Tavares, Kampf, Spezza, Brooks, Amadio, even Willy in a pinch. Kerfoot will likely be a winger this year with the addition of Kampf. Engvall isn't in the lineup every night and plays about as much wing as center. I guess you could swap Mikheyev instead of Engvall but I would prefer to keep him.

That is why I added to get them to take Kerfoot. If they are going to take McCaan, Dubas lost a pick and a good prospect for no reason... Doesn't seem likely he does that trade to lose 3 things instead of losing 1 thing. But who knows i guess.

Oh Boy
Your team lacks superstars yet you would not trade for a 23 year old top end talent?
My reasoning was, Gibson is a top end goalie and Manson is a top 4 RHD with 2 years remaining before becoming an RFA, which is why we are trading our current starting goalie (which is pretty good himself, that you can either re-sign or flip to say a San Jose, Minnesota, Detroit, Ottawa, Chicago etc...) as well as our 2nd best player in Mitch Marner (drafted 4th overall). Also, added in our top goaltending prospect as you guys are re-building. For context, the leafs traded a first round pick for 2 years of Jake Muzzin at the same cap hit to a rebuilding Kings team.
Johnsson is only 25 years old and signed to a good contract. So definitely would be a good addition to a young re-building team and is a top 6 winger. Holl is a serviceable puck moving RHD on a cheap contract. I do not think he would be a detriment to your current line up and provides value.
Getzlaf has slowed down, but yes he would absolutely provide experience and leadership to the leafs. Comtois is a decent prospect as well a can step into the line up. The leafs aren't in a position to retain salary. The could possibly sweeten with mid-round draft pick and likely remove Comtois from the deal. I admit, that may have been a touch greedy but this is all for fun anyway...
