You think a 3rd round pick and $7.5M cash gets you the 6'5" power forward who led Detroit in goals and points through last year's trade deadline? Take that one up with MacLellan. Neutral parties said no, when I posted it on the Vegas side, but maybe he really likes the idea of not being able to re-sign Reilly Smith next year, because his goalies take up all his cap space, and feeling like he traded Jakub Vrana for frickin' Dadonov?

Here's the Vegas side link, I think: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2880724
They can demote Rondbjerg, and package Roy, Patrick and a 1st for any RW that can get retained below $3.7M. Kessel, Zucker, Rust, whatever. I didn't want to make that post be about how they upgrade 2RW at the deadline, because that's secondary scoring, and this trade is about clearing out their current, overpriced secondary scoring to add a franchise center.

Can leave Anderson out of the MTL trade. They're clearly rebuilding either way, and might as well develop a goalie prospect.
You want to switch JJP to Elvenes or Quinn? Or do you want one of them on Rochester's checking line?

Or wait. It's here: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2880724
And at the bottom of that, I just commented a suggestion to trade a 1st to Ari for Boyd and a max retained Kessel, then to trade a 4th to STL for a 4th, and I typed lines in that comment. Same term left on Kessell as Reilly, but I think Kessell is off to a better start, and probably did better last year, on a worse team? By not trading their first in the Eichel deal, Vegas can still make other moves to get to the playoffs, while adding a franchise center. By not trading Krebs, they can develop Krebs, Patrick, and Roy at center while waiting for Eichel.

Breakdown for Sabres: Peterka, 3rd, and just under $8M for Mantha, a big power forward who led the Wings in goals and points up to the trade deadline. Then Eichel for Tuch and prospects.
Breakdown for WSH: two 2nd line wings and some future stuff for a bigger, better 1st line wing. Get their old 3LW back.
Breakdown for Vegas: Eichel, under the cap, without giving up Krebs or a 1st.

A lot of players seem to have been unhappy in Detroit the last few years. Not uncommon on rebuilding teams. Nine games in, Buffalo looks kind of like a playoff team. Adding Mantha, Tuch, Hague and Whitecloud makes them definitely a playoff team. Mantha would have fun there.
Mantha led the Wings in points at the deadline. He's got five points early this year. He's big and he's strong on the puck. Buffalo and Detroit probably have to add a little bit to get WSH on board with this, but I don't think they'd regret it.

Okay. I edited in picks and a prospect to WSH. Thank you.
Or maybe knock it down to Oshie in the first deal? I really don't know what WSH would/wouldn't consider, but I think two top-six wings for one, in the same cap space, is a win-now trade. If Backstrom and Oshie should be back to full strength by the playoffs, then there might be some version that could help Washington, even though I agree Mantha>>Dadonov or Smith

Yep. If the Caps are missing Backstrom and/or Oshie, they would need secondary scoring, and either or both at 2.5M could be worth picking up.
If the Caps expect to get fully healthy, I wonder if Buffalo would add a 2nd to those two to land Anthony Mantha, while retaining enough to balance cap.

Kakko's issue is that he's not scoring this year, and took most of last year to get going. Not really what one expects from a 2nd overall pick, but for every Echel and Svechnikov, there's a Nolan Patrick and a Ryan Murray.
Fox is from New York, and earlier commenters said he asked the Hurricanes to trade him to New York, where he signed an eight year extension right around the time I posted this, so it ain't happening. I tried another one, and neither side seems ready to accept. Most NYR fans replied by insisting that Matthews only has "two" years left on his contract. smh

Dadonov's m-NTC and 5Mx2 contract limit the teams that Vegas can offer him to. If there are no takers, and that's the stumbling block to getting Eichel, I see them parting with McNabb and a 3rd to get it done.
I didn't see Irwin as an important piece, here. Just giving him a chance to stay in the NHL and compete for McNabb's old spot in Vegas.

Good point. Richie has 9 points in 38 playoff games. Hagelin has 50 pts in 141 playoff games, and won back to back Cups.
Are you saying you want to add a prospect, too? Or is a 3rd enough?

Because the Leafs know Nick Ritchie doesn't work in their top six, but they don't know yet whether Hagelin does. Similar offense and defense, but by different means. Maybe Hagelin's foot speed and puck control will work better opposite Marner or Nylander than Ritchie did.
The Caps like the fourth line they have, but Ritchie would work there, too.

AM to NYR take two
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lcarey37</b></div><div>Drury would block Dubas number if he asked about a trade like this lol</div></div>
To be clear, a Rangers fan posted a lowball offer last night (I'm not saying it was or wasn't Drury. I wouldn't know), with some inflammatory comments in the description claiming he thought Matthews wouldn't want to stay and be a hero in a city that loves him. I'm posting a fair price as a Caps fan. I hope both these teams lose, and I don't care whether they reach an agreement, but this is what Matthews costs.
If you think it's a lot, build and post the Rangers' side of it, and tell me you don't like the future of a team with Matthews, Miller, Reunanen, Schneider, Fox, Lindgren, Panarin, Strome, Barron, Gauthier, Kreider, Shesterkin, Georgiev, etc.
Brodie is not a cap dump. He's better than Nils right now and for the next few years, probably. But this barely leaves the Leafs room to sign RFAs the next year, and after that they need to start making trades for cap space, the same as the Rangers.
If you want to tell me I'm a Leafs fan, I"m not. If you want to tell me you don't want to pay the price it would take to get Matthews, I'm glad to hear it. I didn't want to read a hundred posts of Rangers fans trying to convince Leafs fans that Gauthier, Barron, Schneider and a 1st were going to save their franchise. Have a nice day.
