Does Turcotte still have value? I know he's only 22 but it seems like he isn't getting any better and has yet been able to stick in the NHL

BIG 3 Way Trade
As much as I'd love that return as a Jets fan, there is no way Hellebuyck is worth that much. If we got either Byfield or Vilardi and a 1st I'd be ecstatic, and think Chevy knocked the trade out of the park, nevermind all of it.

I like how Montreal sees Suzuki as a 1st line C, and Dubois as a 2nd line C in value when they are basically the same player other than Dubois bringing physicality and grit, more points per game, and being one year older.

Florida's 1st and Montreals 2nd is similar to the Islanders 1st round pick, Barron is similar to Raty, and Dvorak and Beauvillier is the closest I could think of.

That's fair, but for 5.5 mil on that term, you will need points. If you factor in the increased in scoring, he's basically Lucic 2-3 years ago. Yeah he brings some intangibles, but it's not a contract anyone wants.

He's a player who hasn't been able to hit half a point a game, nor play a full season since 18/19. And yet he is signed until 2027 for 5.5 a year which brings him into his mid 30's.
Montreal is a bottom 5 team in the league, and yet he spent time in their bottom 6 cause he isn't very good. Why would anyone want him?

I'm obviously not saying Schiefele is better defensively than Marner now. Just trying to stop some incorrect information from spreading. When talking about 2018, you will hear Selke and Scheifele in the same conversation.

Schiefele was 26th in Selke voting back in 2017/18
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SKWPG</b></div><div>But you will hear that Marner and Scheifele are rendered useless in the playoffs. Both get destroyed when the whistles go away. They wipe each other out in the deal. But, Marner is still paid far too much.
Ehlers and the pick for Nylander and Liljegren makes the deal work, but again only if the Laffs retain some of Marner's far too expensive contract.</div></div>
Scheifele still holds the record for most away goals scored in one series. The only active players who have scored more goals than him in a single series are Crosby, Guentzel, Ovechkin, and Pavelski.

Montreal is giving up bottom 6 players (on a bottom 5 team) making over 4 mil, a washed goalie, a backup goalie prospect, an RFA who won't get qualified, and a late 1st for Hart and Hayton and an early 2nd? That does not seem realistic.

If Montreal wants to compete next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>That's fine but they aren't going to do it by over paying for Dubois. You will have yo pick one of Barron + a 2nd or the Cats 1st + Kidney. In no universe would they trade Barron + a 1st, especially not a top 7 1st for PLD. Hoffman is fine as a throw in, his contract is expiring so it's exactly the type of cap offset that would be added at no cost. Armia is so cheap to buy out that we wouldn't pay to move him when we can just buy him out for nothing. The point is you're being ridiculous asking for the Habs 1st + Barron just so that we can save the 800k buyout hit on Armia.</div></div>
Hoffman would not be a throw in for anyone. As a habs fan, you know how you got a 1st to take Monahans contract? Hoffman is cheaper but still a terrible player, montreal would probably need their 2nd to dump him. Capfriendly has Armias buyout at 1.4 million a year for 4 years, not 800k.
Maybe I'm underrating Barron, I meant him more as a slightly valuable throwin, judging by Scott Wheeler ranking him as a defensemen that will top out as a #4/5 guy if everything goes right.
You are also ignoring how valuable Demelo is in your valuation equation.

Barron is not a top prospect. Wheeler has his ceiling as a 4/5 guy, with a floor as a 6/7 guy. Unless something crazy happens with his development be won't be as good as Demelo. Hoffman and Armia both have negative value as they are cap dumps.

If Montreal wants to compete next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>What are you talking about? Montreal has like 19.5 mil without moving out any money. Habs have the room to sign both long term for anything less than 9.75 mil each
Also WTF IS THAT PLD TRADE?!! Instant no from Montreal there</div></div>
Montreal has 19.5 without moving out any money but both Caufield and Dubois would need contracts. Both will make over 8, possibly over 9 on their next contract. If Montreal wants to run the exact same team but just adding Dubois, they'll be a bottom 10 team again, hence them needing to clear cap space to add better players.

I doubt any other franchise would offer something as high quality as a top 5 pick. If they want to go for quantity I could see that argument, but going for quality this is probably the best available (and only available if Montreal wants to exit their rebuild now)

Montreal gets enough cap space to extend Caulfield/Dubois long term plus still having the ability to add what they need. Demelo is cost controlled defensive RHD who can play top pairing, and works very well with offensive dmen, which would work with Hutson or Guhle for example.

Closest comparable would be Colorado trading a 1st, Conor Timmins, and a conditional 3rd for Kuemper. Hellebuyck has more prestige and is better than Kuemper so you would probably expect it to be more.

What will the return be for Dubois
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Went_Wughes</b></div><div>You mean, in you single, solitary, isolated opinion.</div></div>
The problem with Mailloux is that even without all the baggage attached to him, he isn't that good of a prospect. He's not good in his own zone, has issues with his hockey sense, and is an offensive defenseman who hasn't been able to hit a point per game in his D+2 season.
The Jets drafted Kuzmin in the 3rd round of the same year, and he's arguably put up a better season than Mailloux this year and last year. I don't think any team in the league would want Kuzmin as a centerpiece for an elite player of Dubois caliber, and that's exactly how Mailloux is also seen.

PLD to mtl
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Why does Montreal do this? If we wait 2 weeks after the draft we can OS PLD at 6.25 mil. This does 2 things 1 if the Jets match they can't trade PLD and he becomes a fa and can sing I'm Montreal if that is what he wants to do and it didn't cost us any assets. 2 if the Jets don't match we get the player for a 2024 1st and 3rd which is much more palatable than all these huge packages involving the 2023 1st + top 6 forward + 2nd round pick or top prospects.</div></div>
Jets would also prefer Montreal to offersheet as an unprotected Montreal 1st in 2024 will be waay more valuable than Florida's in 23.

Right On
The cost to offload Hoffmans cap is probably at least a 2nd. Hoffman does not belong in a teams starting 12 roster so that's 4.5 mil of dead cap space. Dillon is worth more than Edmundson cause Edmundson is always injured. A team would have to be desperate for defensemen in order to trade for him, and trading a comparable player without injury concerns wouldn't be something a team would do. I don't know much about Ylonen but a 23 yr old .5 point per game AHL player doesn't seem like a prospect with much value at all.
This trade would mean Winnipeg would lose depth on forward which they already don't have enough of and trade a healthy defenseman for an injured one. All in order to upgrade a 5th round pick to a 4th? Winnipeg easily says no.

Change of scenery All in
A 20 year old C who can't hit .5ppg in the AHL and a 19 year old rw who is .77ppg in the OHL are not the assets you build a trade around for a player who has the third longest >point per game streak in the NHL right now (Just behind Crosby and McDavid). If Schiefele gets moved at the deadline next year he would get back at least a 1st and a better prospect than either of those 2.
