Meh. I’m more of an eye test kinda guy. Don’t care too much about these stats. I’d assume his stats would be better than most guys on the team because he’s playing limited minutes, though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>No, I don't think that's the case unless one of the veterans get traded, which I don't think will happen. There are 5 returnees who are locks for NHL jobs: Klefbom, Nurse, Larsson, Benning and Russell. That leaves 1 spot open in the top-6 and the 7th man job, but Holland has been pretty steadfast that he doesn't want one of the rookies in that job. Right now there are 5 players vying for the final roster spots: Joel Persson, Evan Bouchard, Ethan Bear, Brandon Manning and William Lagesson. I'd say Persson is the most likely to win a top-6 role and Manning most likely to win the 7th man role.

Will there be more than one rookie on the roster as the season goes along? Of course, that was Holland's express reason for buying out Sekera - to open up space for the rookie defenders. But keeping both Benning and Russell means that the rookies are unlikely to be thrust into top-4 roles before they're ready.

I don't think Tippett will throw out 3 years of positive NHL results because Benning had 2 poor preseason games in a row.</div></div>

Benning has been mediocre ever since their playoff run from two years ago; it hasn’t just been these two preseason games. Ethan Bear outplayed him in camp/preseason last year as well. I’d say Nurse, Klefbom, Larsson, and Russell are locks, with the final two spots coming down to Bouchard, Bear, Lagesson, and Benning. A Russell - Benning pairing would just be disastrous imo. Neither one of those guys are exceptional skaters nor passers to prevent that pairing from getting caved in their own zone.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Based on what? Sure the bottom six isnt composed entirely of AHL players now, but I'd hardly call the acquisition of fourth liners an improvement. The blueline is predominantly unchanged with the exception that we know Sekera wont be there all season (which was relatively disastrous, he and Klefbom are the only two on that blueline that can legitimately pass the biscuit) and that Jones might be able to string a season together on the bottom pair. The goaltending is arguably just as bad, if not worse, than last season, and nothing else was done to address scoring up front.

There is no reason to assume Neal will actually perform well here. He didn't in Calgary and the biggest thing going for him right now is that he's not Lucic. I'd be happy with 15.

Do remember that last year saw everyone of our big three hit career highs. Chiasson had a bender of a first half. Is that really going to happen again or is Edmonton more likely to be a lottery team?</div></div>

Reider had 0 goals last year, Brodziak had 6. Strome had 2 points in 18 games and spooner had 3 points in 25 games. I highly doubt that type of production from the bottom 6 will repeat with the additions of Granlund, Archibald, and not to mention gagner producing at a 30 point pace last season. As for Neal, even if he scores 15 goals that will be an upgrade over what lucic gave the oilers as a top 6 winger. As for goaltending, Koskinen has shown he can be streaky. He had a great stretch which led to his contract extension. Smith on the other hand had a solid end of the season and was exceptional for the flames in the playoffs. Obviously it’s not going to be pretty but I think this team can squeeze into a wildcard spot.
