<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>You understand that handedness doesn't dictate position right? All of Dermott, Lehtonen, and Sandin have played RD.</div></div>

This is a really tricky point to get across for so many reasons but what you are saying generally is false.

1st, Handedness does not mean shoot, aka hold the stick so lets start there.
There are lots of people who are R handed but hold the stick left. It just feels more natural for them. So that is the first part that should be stated. The ability to switch and feel comfortable is a huge part of guys being able to play both sides. Not everyone can adjust to that.

Those who are playing their natural side having to switch over is extreamly difficult. Yes, they can play over there, but they have to change the way they play and the team plays to account for it. If you ever played you know it's really hard to backhand a pass with accuracy at a decent rate of speed on the ice. This means people playing their off side tend not to be able to perform point to point passes and that causes a huge problem for teams. See JJ on the RHD for the penguins 2 years ago.

What ends up happening for a lot of guys is they stop playing the "off side" and they play "center field" because it makes the passes shorter and easier to control.

In general guys who play their handed side naturally, do not switch well to their off side.
It's why guys tend to have an easier time going from LD to RD than from RD to LD. Because a fair amount of guys playing LD are actually Right handed. For them it's a matter of adjusting how they hold the stick, not playing the side.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F3ruS</b></div><div>In other topics, these genius "experts" said Cernak will get offersheeted.
So now:
Cernak = offersheeted
Sergachev = offersheeted
Cirelli = offersheeted

Check out Brayden Point and his offersheets, how that worked out... and he didn't get 10 million $, like the "capfriendly experts" predicted...
Last successful offersheet = in the "stone age". Good luck Armchair GM's.

So now every lottery team giving up their first round draft picks in 2021, just to get all the TBL players... You acquire Serg = you win the cup... right??? Because we are the best... right? No... LUL...
Sure offer a 2nd round pick for the offersheet compensation... easy match in 10 minutes(will delay with 1 week just for lolz)... so it needs to be insane high amount of $...

$4,227,438 - $6,341,152
1 First Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick

6.3 million $ for Serg,Cirelli?
They say: No thanks, i take the 4.x(likely)/5.x(worst case) million $ in tampa... with friendly taxes and beach... and a respectable cup win% instead of missing the playoffs every 2nd year with a mediocre/lottery team...
So you need to offer 8.3 mill $ ... who will offer 8+ mill $ for Serg? Yes...Noone...I repeat NOONE. He might still say: No thanks to 8.x million $... we can just offer him 6.x in that case... with taxes... he only wins by staying here... again look at Point or Kucherov or any other player in NHL history in last decade...

The cap is going to be around 86 million... up to 88 million possible...
The projection is 84-88... if we are lucky is closer to 88, than 84...

Current predictions:
Cernak/Serg: 3.5 mill / Cirelli: 4.5mill / Shatty:gone / Killorn:gone / 1 of TJ/Gourde:gone / Coburn:gone / Paquette: stays
Might be 1 of the 3 RFA's get a big 6-8 years contract with higher caphit, if not all 3 bridged... that's it...

This is BASIC cap management. The other way is : Trade players away. EASY again.
NTC's doesn't matter. Parise just waived his. Other guy from NYI just waived. Kessel waived for Arizona... didn't for Minnesota...
Thornton just waived for a couple of teams...
Players waive it, if they see no future in the lineup. THE GM will tell them: Bye. They waive it. Simple. Not for :redwings or :senators For a team they like = half the league... or more...

Let me tell you, if we need to choose between TJ vs Serg. We choose Serg.
TJ vs Cirelli. We choose Cirelli.
Gourde vs same players. Same result.
They will be gone, if needed... if we have cap for them, then they stay... this is not rocket science...
Who doesn't want good 40-50 points middle6 players for free? We played JT Miller on 4th line. See how that turned out...
This year no different, than any other... Vasi already solved... next up: other RFA's...</div></div>

If the cap goes to 85 or 86 then Tampa has no problems at all. Even at 84 it works. These posters obv don't know Tampa well if they think these rfa's are taking offer sheets for a million or 2 more, which is considerably less due to taxes, to leave a top contender. Serg will get closer to McAvoy(if Tampa even worries about "comparables," which they often don't), Cernak will get less than 3.5 with Cirelli at maybe 4.5 tops but likely closer to 4. It's like these ppl think JBB hasn't already planned these numbers out and very likely already has some gauge on the players approaches to this. But again, not worth anymore discussion as we've heard it all before with several other players the last 5 years and look at that, no offer sheets and kept everyone they needed/wanted with reasonable bridge contracts. Tampa doesn't let other teams inflated contracts dictate their negotiations, and they won't start now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F3ruS</b></div><div>One advanced analytics guy i follow predicted a 75% TBL win for this DET match... He said we should rest players... like a few of them at least...
I was like... he must not have seen the :bruins game like 22 hours earlier or smth...
I mean i agree with him: Load management needs to be implemented in the :nhl sooner or later...
I just didn't agree with his predictions, that without resting players we have 75%...
I thought we have like 50% to win... turned out... we won(so he was right with the 75%)... just the referees screwed us in the whole game...
the topic opener is right: :bluejackets style
They disallowed a 5 on 3 PP and couple other "non-calls". In other words... at least 3-4 penalties... in obvious situations... like -1 kuch goal... that's even worse than a couple not awarded 2 minute minor..

What the referees did in the CBJ matchup? They didn't allow us barely any PP.(intereference/holding non existant for refs in playoffs)
What was our main strength last year = PP. Good job refs... :applaud

That's contributed to around 3-5% for the reason we lost... let's imagine only 5 more power plays awarded in the columbus series... could've been 3 goals = 1 match win... then who knows what's happening if we win 1 game... momentum shifts are real in the league, and that series the refs just helped the other team... i have no doubt, that they will help specific teams this year...
Again Hedman was injured vs Detroit , just like in Columbus series. Result = 4 goals allowed...If Hedman is not in the lineup that's usually what happens... We allow more than 3 goals = hard to win...

CBJ series = all games lots of goals allowed.(thanks to injury + cold Vasi)
If you play with injury, if it's bad, it's worse than a replacement level of player... and Point also played with huge injury(2 surgeries needed).
Those injuries also contributed like 20-30% of the reasons why we lost, other then the refs... There is 1 million other reasons why we lost, which i already explained in other topics...

Anyways, these matches are now placeholders.
We secured the 2nd/3rd place already with 2-3 wins out of like 14... we can lose 10 in a row ... it still won't matter most likely...
This is as acceptable loss thank to the referees... We played bad defense/medicore offense(tired) and we still got 1 point... which is more than enough for us to make the playoffs(we don't care about pres cup anymore)

If the referees called this match even, like they should: this loss would be still okay... so no reason to be panicking...1 point, i'm actually happy at the end of the day...

On the other hand, if we lose in playoffs round 1 vs Toronto----&gt;that would be disaster(even all 4-7 games without Stamkos we still should win) ----&gt; Cooper fired most likely,
so he better help the players win that series(our best matchup from the possible playoffs opponents on the east).
Vs. all other metro teams we have less % to win... so if we can't win that series... how do we want to win anything... after that it's Boston "Tea Time" in the 2nd round...

:lightning Vs. :mapleleafs in 1 month!

Let's go!

Also :lightning Vs. :oilers Stanley-Cup Finals? Are you in? :popcorn</div></div>

A :oilers vs :lightning finals would be amazing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I'm no avid Sharks watcher but my brother is a big Sharks fan. He is a very solid PK'er and heavy hitter</div></div>

Plays with a big heart and emotion; but keeps himself in check (doesn’t take bad penalties but knows when to fight or do something to up the team.)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Pretty shocked to see BriseBois essentially give up 3 1st round picks (Van, TB, Foote) for two bangers. Coleman is a good player, but still. Just seems like two big overpays for guys that should have been available for cheaper.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>papishark</b></div><div>You set the market with Coleman. Goodrow is half his price and probably a little more than half the player, so got half the return</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRigatoniRat</b></div><div>While I don't think this was a good trade from Tampa's point of view, he will definitely help with the pk. His face off percentage is just below 50%, but he's been playing on our top lines so that will likely improve. I don't think he's a leader in the locker room, but he does play physical and I don't have stats to back this up but I feel like he gets in about the same amount of fights as Kane.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodfella</b></div><div>He's versatile and can play any forward roll. Solid checker/PK. That pick is going to be a late one. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape. Plus he's signed for cheap next year and you guys need low cap hits.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F3ruS</b></div><div>Can he help in clutch situations? Like Game 7 vs :capitals or :penguins or even :blues ( if blues make it to the finals again)
Our biggest problem: We just have nothing in the tank late playoffs rounds(conf finals/finals vs top teams. We go out in game 6-7 and we score 0 goals. = we lose... Can he help us with energizing the team to overcome adversity?
Last year we were hopeless vs Columbus so in that case noone could've helped. We had 0% to win... They destroyed us... But this team is much different it won't happen again...
We need help in those Game 6 + 7's... Like he needs to help us Pastrnak to not score on the pp... 1 Pastrnak goal in pp = we can prepare for new season...
Same with Ovie or Crosby/Malkin. Possible Tarasenko/Perron etc... Those star forwards always gives us trouble.
Like let's say :predators get's hot in playoffs = they make it to the finals... We need to limit Forsberg+ Duchene to bad scoring chances, otherwise we will be hopeless. I don't want another finals loss like vs Chicago couple of years. I want them to just "DO IT"! And bring the cup home...

So is he an energizer player like Coleman? And does he have a will to win at all costs?

Thanks for the answers, they are helping a lot to digest this...</div></div>

Goodrow is no Barkov. But he plays great in both ends but not spectacular. He’s stable and consistent and plays with energy. As for game 7 and big moments

<div class="yt_out_cont"><div class="yt_cont"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lzHsxvJ-kv0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div>

He has played very well ever since this.
He isn’t going to score 20 goals or have 800 takeaways like mark stone. But he will kill a penalty like his life is on the line. He seems like a guy everyone loves in the room because he isn’t flashy; similar to Demelo and Paul Maurices “coaches porn” comment. He goes out there and puts it on the line

Arent they adorable.....the homers......

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>That is one solution. Another option is to get defensemen who can stop a rush.</div></div>

Are you nuts ? Coming here to a homers gathering and telling them something isnt 100% in their Team. Screw the stats ( we use them only when it fits us ) which are : <strong>
GA 23rd.....SA 27th.....SCA 22nd......PK 25th</strong>

Pull your sh.t together and get your homework done cause :

Keefe = best coach ever entered NHL ( ignore that hes running TOP 3 Offensive core in the League, tho i give him he isnt afraid to adjust the tactics ingame according to situation )
Matthews &gt; McDavid ( thats why his 5 x 11,634M are justified and if you translate McDs contract into 5 years would be around 11,8M signed into 2019 but watch Matthews sniff 100 points first in ARI )
Mikheyev = next P.Datsyuk
Engvall = next P.Forsberg
Rielly = better in his own zone then Hedman ( i thought Ds should be valuated by playing defence but i was wrong thru all my years of playing on pro level here in Europe )
Barrie = better in his own zone then Josi ( same as above )
Holl = next Lidström playing for 2M
Dermott = next Lidström playing for 2,5M
Andersen = is having each night off, playing leisure Games and not standing on head even if its 53 SA per Game, for all 70 of them
Hutchinson = on the pace of 7 shutouts and turning into next Hasek

and thats only a few things that you should know, i could tell you more but in your ignorance you wouldnt understand

This is LEAGUE'S BEST TEAM OF THE CENTURY and Cup is ours for next three years ( at least ), so shut it or we will come for you ( tho i will wear only a TML T-shirt, OP already stripped me of jersey for not being a homer with blue blinders on )

Thread: Kovi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F3ruS</b></div><div>BUT his defensive play/thoughness/grit/leadership/age and 1 billion other things... is nothing close to Kreider. You can't just take 1 stat = points for a player and say they are close.... they are not close.... Kreider is the guy who every contender wants... just check any thread... Kovalchuk is the guy who almost noone wants for big value going back to Montreal... 7th rounder sure... but that's very far away from the 2nd...

My logic is not flawed: 40 days in Montreal is not magically turns a 7th round pick into a 3rd round... let's talk about a 3rd then... seems like you hate the 2nd round conversation, when u say things like: "i didn't say it".

So i say 3rd round now or less... is that okay for you... but you can answer your value evaluation and we'll see who will be closer when the trade happens.... cause why are you writing in the topic, if you're not writing your own guesses... that's the fun part imo...

So let's forget about 2nd .... just write your own opinion then! Simple things... and we'll see who's logic was flawed at february 25th...</div></div>

As of right now in MTL, small sample size, Kovalchuk has more blocks and hit per game than Kreider, so he has some grit and toughness to him and is willing to play some defense, although that isn't what teams looking for cheap depth scoring at the deadline will be overly worried about.
Your logic is flawed, because a quarter of the season is more than long enough for things to change, just look at how the playoff picture has changed in the last 40 days.
I don't hate the 2nd round pick conversation, I was just never part of it.
It's to early to determine what Kovalchuk's value will be, 2 games in MTL doesn't show anything, if he magically stays a 1.5 pts/gm player he will be worth more than if he doesn't get another point. He probably ends up somewhere in the middle, which given his play since returning to the NHL and assuming a normal number of teams looking for cheap depth, and Kovalchuk's cap is almost non existent (and I think roster limits disappear), he probably fetches a condition 4th, upgrading based on his scoring in the playoffs.
I'm on the topic because your logic was, from my view, faulty and I felt like pointing it out, but making a guess never hurt anyone. Although making a guess based on a 2 game sample size when he has 22 more before the deadline isn't likely to be accurate.
