That would make sense. Except Kane isn't a top line forward. And his top line forward doesn't play defense. Something the 3rd highest scoring team in the NHL needs more than a -1% finisher

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>Why would we be trading down? If Berniers is available wouldn't we take him?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>If we drop to 3rd then idk what we do. Do we draft the best player available which will probably be a LHD/RHD, which is not a position that we REALLY need help in? Or do we draft a lower ranked player like Eklund or Sillinger simply because they fit the mold better? Personally I'd rather fill the void of prospects in the forward positions than get a potentially better player who is a defender</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AudioCats</b></div><div>Right? If he's available, he's the easiest bet on being an impact in the NHL. Being the hardest working guy on the ice every night + speed/skill/vision? Easy money, imo. Usually you only get to pick one.</div></div>
Sorry I should have specified. In this scenario, I assumed we lose the lottery and Berniers gets selected. So rather than taking a D, Trading down to take Eklund

UFA's are available for selection. They are not immune. So even if I don't sign him until after, Seattle can take him. I'm gonna protect Asplund over Tage. It's either McCabe gets protected or Borgen. Or you can do 8 skaters but that means you only protect, Sam, Jack, Jeff and VO

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>I doubt Seattle would take McCabe with no guarantee he would sign with them. They should not waste a potential asset on nothing. I think the Sabres will have to incentivize Seattle taking a player of their choosing, particularly if we do not want to lose a forward. I would be fine with including any of the extra draft picks we’ve acquired this year, or Lawrence Pilut’s rights if that seals the deal. He’s not coming back here anyway, but if Seattle were to give him an opportunity he just might come back for them.</div></div>
I would like for them to bring him back. If he's your 3LD then you're in a great spot. But they would have to buy him out of his KHL contract which I doubt will happen. But yeah I'm with you, I hope you're right and they don't take him. I'd like to keep draft capital if possible

Reinhart's a good enough two way player that you don't need Zegmus on his line. Now if you wanted to follow your train of thought, a guy like Asplund would fit a role alongside Jack and VO. Zegmus you want on your 4th line. IMO at least.
So:
Asplund-Jack-VO
Skinner-Reinhart- Gusev

He's their best defensive forward since Larsson left? He's been their best forward and is barely under his typical pace for scoring.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Reinhart has a career 38% FO win rate and this year he's averaging 42%. He hasnt been a good center at all. Also putting top 6 forwards in the bottom 6 doesnt create more scoring lines, it cuts their minutes and thus negatively impacts their games. Not only are they going to cut their minutes in half, theyre going to not get as many offensive zone starts, they will disappear. They need a legit physical checking line, just like every other successful team in the league has built.</div></div>
Imagine using faceoffs as a stat to determine if he's a good center

See I thought about this. The idea is signing him after the expansion draft. However Seattle can still take him in the expansion draft which I found interesting. If they were smart they would take him because he's one of the better defensive defenseman in the league. So that's why I protected him. If they don't protect McCabe, I'd go Dahlin,Joki,Borgen

Thought I had grabbed Skins. Just swap him for Asplund. And Seattle has invested in heavily in analytics so unless the GM ignores all of them, or he has a deal in place to immediately trade him. No they won't chose Risto. And if they do, they've done you a favor. And as for long term deals Dahlin and Joki are coming off rough years. I set the prices as the lowest you'd see a long term deal.
