EichelReinhart Stay
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jdfitz77</b></div><div>U want Reinhart taking defensive zone draws when he can’t win a faceoff???
That’s not a good idea
He may be decent defensively overall, but that doesn’t mean he’s a “shutdown” type center</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Facebookfighter</b></div><div>You'd use Reinhart. Reinhart has good defensive impacts.</div></div>
Assuming Granato becomes the permanent coach and the chemistry of Cozens-Ruotsalainen-Bjork carries over into next season, it'd be a safe bet that Granato would try to play Cozens' line against the other team's top line, just as he did recently against Boston, Washington and Pittsburgh. Along with having better speed than Reinhart and thus far proving to be a reliable face-off man, I think Cozens has a better two-way game than Reinhart.
Important to the debate is that having a 4th line or dedicated checking line - like the Sabres had with Larsson-Okposo-Girgensons may help with possession time but it doesn't typically neutralize scoring chances against with scoring chances for. The teams with the most success have a line or two that have two-way players that can cover defensively without losing any offense. My sense is that, where a conservative defensive-minded coach like Krueger wanted to have 2 offensive lines and 2 defensive lines, an offensive-minded, attack-oriented coach like Granato will want to have 4 lines of offense with each being defensively responsible. Mittelstadt isn't there yet and Reinhart and Eichel aren't as strong on faceoffs or positional play like Cozens IMO.

if Winnipeg was dumb enough to offer that, then Botts is the dumbest (former) GM in the league for turning it down.

Players Buffalo should pursue
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SalamiCheese</b></div><div>I’m no longer sure that the usual addition of talent will help us, this team has no heart and passion, no leadership presence and the right culture. The team captain goes to fight, and half of the players or even more on the bench do not even react to it and continues to play with a stone face.</div></div>
Its an interesting point. Fighting isnt an integral part of the game anymore, but pushing back in the face of adversity is. I dont need to see a bunch of fights, or eichel dropping the gloves, but i need to see more push back. We have a number of european players, we are supposed to be outskating and outplaying the other team. I dont see these guys being motivated because a teammate got into a fight. All of this is fine, cte is a terrible thing, fighting should have very little presence in the nhl in light of the danger. Teams before us have won on talent- im thinking red wings and pens here- but fighting to get to the net and just adversity is missing here. There is something terribly wrong here.

Better than Gilmour playing 4th wing

CHI COL MIN VAN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>You guys seem to have the skill vs tough thing handled, i dont know the answer, ive seen teams that are soft win and ive seen teams that are nails win. Also seen san jose and some tough stl teams kill each other in round one and wear out before reaching the finals. The sabres are definitely in the softer end of the pool, the problem is that at least our bottom 6 if not bottom 9 arent all that skilled either (obvious exception for skinner). If we had 3 stud lines and scored on pp in the playoffs (if the refs dont put the whistles away), it could be fine. The problem with the post that i am replying to is that our current gm acquired 3 of the 4 players- sheary, vesey, and sobotka. I dont remember if murray or botterill signed rodrigues. I dont see all of these players being moved out by the guy that acquired them.</div></div>
Well, he can’t just sit and do nothing, he will lose his job if the team again fights for the top 10 picks.

Sobotka and Sheary have had their chance and are on expiring contracts so i dont see him keeping them for that reason.

I mean that's literally what Laine is though. He is a an elite goal scorer but that's it. Even the stats back that up

This team is.... actually good.
Edit: it’s pretty dangerous giving up consecutive firsts and especially dangerous because next year’s draft is filthy. Perhaps you could find a way to only give up 1 first.
