I'd say the package starts at Power + Quinn/Peterka + Mittelstadt + Some draft capital
I'd prefer that over Tage imho

I honestly forgot he was on this. I made this almost a month ago and just posted now, so at the time Oilers were in a pretty bad spot

If Klef was healthy, Nurse would never of played as much as he had to, and would be our 2nd pair LH D, and would of been paid as such. We could of easily signed him to a long term, $6mill deal instead of constantly bridging him. Klef performed much better in the #1, LH D role too.</div></div>
I understand the point and agree he probably would have got 6 x 8 and been a steal at that contract.
I am just stating that right now for all the Nurse haters, he's still a top pairing defenseman logging some tough minutes with a really good 3rd pairing partner.

Agreed, sure we don't need Broberg but I'd flip him. I think there's no way the Oilers would do this.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Habs have 6+ better LHD and prospects better than Broberg, he offers no value. Ceci as I said is an ok replacement but you still have to add for the upgrade and then you want us to retain on Savard so you have to pay for that too. The 2nd isn't enough to downgrade and retain, basically that would mean the Habs were paying Ceci 4.5 mil, would you pay Ceci 4.5 mil a year and not want to get something useful back?</div></div>
As far as I can tell,
Savard ~ Ceci
Retention = 2nd Round Pick
MTL gets Broberg as cost of acquisition (which is pretty significant, habs can just flip Broberg for another prospect but I agree Holloway or Borgault would be better fits).
There is no way the Oilers would do this though.

2024-25 Oilers Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fail4Nail</b></div><div>Sure, but I still think you're overvaluing him. In 8 seasons, his career high is 47 points, which was 18/19 season. Hasn't put up more than 32 points since and he can't seem to stay healthy. 2.75 isn't a whole lot of money, but for a cap strapped team like the Oilers, I'd use that money elsewhere.</div></div>
For this price I'm not overvaluing, Bourgault is a good prospect but doesn't fit our window at all and because of that is of very little use for us (imo).
I also don't think XB gets a large return at this point, we maybe get some brownie points from MTL cause he's from Quebec but anywhere else I doubt he gives us a big return.
Hymans career high before coming to Edmonton was 41 points, also back in 18/19.
Not saying Anderson is going to have a massive boom like Hyman did but valuing a player's stats when that player is in a bad/unfavourable system isn't the best way to gauge their worth.
How I see it, which I get you may disagree with, we trade XB for a guy who could potentially come into our system, be a good physical presence and <strong>*potentially*</strong> start putting up ~50 points a season.
This player would also be at 2.75 for 3 years, ending when they are 32 which is when the real regression in his play would start.
If MTL considers a trade like this and I'm Holland, I jump on it ASAP.

Oilers Fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fail4Nail</b></div><div>As an Oilers fan, Nurse is worth 6 mill max. People say he's trash because he's paid 9 mill a year. He's not that bad of a dman. Consistently puts up 40 points, without playing on the PP. Physical guy and skates extremely well for being 6'4" and 220 lb+.</div></div>
I think people (yourself seemingly included) neglect the fact that he consistently takes on the team's shutdown minutes with a non-optimal RD partner (Bear, Barrie, and Ceci; none of these are genuine top-4 RD) and yet consistently contributes to driving play and keeping his team above water (94-89 on-ice goals at 5-on-5 w/o McDavid). He makes more coverage mistakes than you'd want out of a #1D but to me he's worth at least 7 to 7.5mil.
However, I agree with the general thrust of your point that the rage is due to his cap hit.

Since everyone is trading with SJS - lets clear the air
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fail4Nail</b></div><div>I would love Sturm on the Oilers, but his contract is too much for a fourth line center. What would his cost be, with retained salary?</div></div>
I think a team like MIN or ARI would charge around a 4th-5th to help. SJS can’t afford to use their final slot on Strum.
It would probably be a 3rd or 4th / prospect + something for SJ and a late pick for 2m retained (this year 1 and next year 1). Neither MIN or ARI seem inclined to need every retention spot so in total value, EDM probably loses under a 2nd in total value.
Ex:
Lavoie
4th
5th
Just chop it up in many different ways but as I said SJS probably asks something high for Strum - he’s shown he’s an important role player/ locker room leader for this young team who needs consistency in their voices and beside them.

I think you are right and that’s what the Oilers will do. They may already have that cheap Vet anyways, Gleason was very good in preseason and has done enough in the AHL to get a look. Broberg can easily take his minutes down there and Gleason can come up and get a taste of the NHL, that he earned.

holy ****, you actually have no concept of asset management, Another trade where youd rather keep a role player than get someone with potential upside. Evans is a 4C on any other team in the league. Only on the Habs he gets top 6 minutes. And the only thing the Habs pipeline is full of is **** bottom 6 forwards. Broberg actually have top 4 upside and allows the Habs to use a Xhekaj or Harris in a trade to move up in the trade or acquire elite talent

I don't think they will be astonished. His value is not high at all right now. He will probably be moved for a cheap roster player that can improve the Oilers defensive play

Fixing the depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fail4Nail</b></div><div>Blud are you really saying Drai is only decent???! I'm an Oilers fan, I get it might sound that I'm biased, but he is the 2nd best player in the league. Any argument saying that he's only good because he plays with McDavid is most likely coming from someone who doesn't watch the Oilers. Any GM in this league, if they had the opportunity to build a team around McAvoy or Drai, every one of them picks Drai.</div></div>
Yea I’m a sharks fan and I maybe don’t say top 2 player in the league but no doubt top 10 with a legit argument for top 5. My only reasoning to do this is both McDavid and Draisaitl are owed new contracts coming up here and I doubt those combined are under 26 mil. And with Nurse and all the other long term deals I don’t see how you build a competitive roster.
The way I see it in 26/27 the cap should be around 95/96 mil
McDavid will cost around 14 mil
Draisaitl 13.5 (estimate)
Nurse 9.25 (estimate)
Elkholm 6
Hyman 5.5
RNH 5.12
Bouchard 7.5 (estimate)
So for 8-10 Forwards 3-4 Defensmen and 2 Goalies you have 35.13 mil to fill out the roster, and your prospect pool isn’t stacked so depending on multiple ELC is dicey (especially if you keep trading picks and prospects for rentals)
Financially moving Draisaitl just makes more sense or all you’re going to have in the future is a handful of stars surrounded by replacement level players and be lucky to escape the 1st round of the playoffs.

His cap hit was too much and would hinder the depth I was going for here. But I understand your thought
