Oilers would not trade RNH for Tanev. Eberle maybe. And, you're correct Dylan, this trade would never happen as this user proposes. RNH is future Selke-type player, they haven't given up on Reinhart, Tanev is a 2nd pairing D who blocks a lot of shots and gives you steady. Don't see where this adds up. Also Sedins aren't going anywhere, full stop. They end as Canucks. No getting around it. Rangers 1st rounder plus two regulars for two over the hill forwards who are retiring? Ridiculous.</div></div>

"One must ask the question: with lacklustre numbers, as well as a -10 rating this past season metrics, is Nugent-Hopkins losing his touch?"
"Edmonton needs from him is the offence that was promised when they selected him first overall. He must get back to his consistent numbers, and though injuries have plagued him, he must get his touch back. Additionally, the British Columbia native must get better in the face-off dot. Nugent-Hopkins only wins about 43 percent of his draws."

I can keep going but for you to think he is a "Selke-type" player is silly. RNH is a top 6 player but not one that is worth the $6m price-tag and not one that EDM needs. EDM needs a quality defenseman with a low cap hit. How can you argue about trade value when you more than anyone else should know the cost of acquiring d-men with low cap hits that have some term. RNH is not Taylor Hall and Tanev is not Larrson but in this framework, the trade makes sense.

As far as the Sedins go, NYR needs to move one of their d-men.

"Defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal are buy out candidates. The 33-year old Girardi has three years left on his contract at $5.5 million per season. The 30-year old Staal has four years left at $5.7 million per."

This trade gives NYR potentially the missing pieces to make a cup run. One year left and a low-risk option given the age of their core.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bwells</b></div><div><i>You're Benninging a lot here... Hansen is NOT a comparable player to Palat. Palat is a top six (maybe even top line) forward. Hansen is a bad 3rd liner, and that's being generous.

Oh, and fanatical, you... I don't even know what to say if you haven't realized Sbisa does not belong in the league. Yes, Enstrom is way better than him, even in spite of the contract.</i></div></div>

Agreed Palat is a better offensive forward then Hansen but here is the thing, Tampa will lose someone. Maybe the find a better deal but Hansen and a 2nd is comparable to what they would likely get back in return. I realize that you do not think Hansen is anything but he is. He does more then Palat does overall and contributes at a top 6 pace. Thats just reality based on statistics and the numbers he has put up the last couple of years. I am not saying that Hansen is a better offensive player then Palat is but he is a top 6 forward, with a low cap hit, that does a lot of things Palat does not.

As for Sbisa, again factor in WPG's situation all things considered. Is Enstrom better then Sbisa, yes. But again, how much does he get paid, is he worth the money, can WPG afford him, what about the expansion draft and the fact he takes up a reserve spot etc. Enstrom is a declining asset plain and simple that is TIED to WPG and impacts there future, like it or not. He will be moved and for far less then you think simply given his albatross contract.

How is Hansen a cast off? 22g at 2.5m a season signed for 2 more years? The Avs are top heavy with no depth, toughness or role players. Sbisa would be the Avs 4th or 5th best defencemen right now.</i></div></div>

do you actually know their roster? Clearly you dont and are just making up crap off the top of your head. Why would they trade 2 better players than the ones you are giving up when you say they have no depth...how do taking 2 worse positional players give them better depth. Avs need a shake up according to Roy...did you really just type that, do you realize he is no longer with the organization?

Wow you stink at trades, -8 stars</i></div></div>

While agree wholeheartedly with you Coga, this trade is all kinds of not fair, I do see how calling Hansen a castoff is unfair. The guy is a very decent player.</i></div></div>

Hes not bad, but he isnt better than Duchene to give them better "depth"...its just a banana land rationale that he has, calling him out on it, yet still fighting that its a good idea. If Hansen is so great then why would you trade for duchene.</i></div></div>

Not the point. I absolutely agree with you regarding the trade. Its the putting down of Hansen for no reason that i can see as being unfair. That's all.</i></div></div>

What is the value of Duchene is my question. He has been a ~60 point player his entire career (with the exception of one season), gets paid $6 million a year and has a negative +/- which is bad news for a center. Is Duchene a better player then Sbisa and Hansen, yes, no question. But the sum of the parts in my mind make sense for the Avs. A 1st, top 6 forward and top 5 d-man for a top 3 forward and bottom paring (at best) d-man.
