How about lose a year of the cap hit and move other assets? MTL is rebuilding not competing.

Easy. Cap space (keeping Jones, Werenski, past next year, Laine).
He is not a number 1 center and his value has fallen significantly. Lots of rumors of him being traded.
At best he is worth a late first and a B-tier prospect. I think this works better its a high second and a former 2nd round pick who is looking to be NHL ready. Plus they get an expiring contract from a player who can likely be traded at the deadline or be useful in the right role.
"Since John Davidson returned to the organization from the New York Rangers, it seems the focus of the team is to select potential difference-makers at the draft. The team will likely be trading Seth Jones, there are questions about the future of Maxi Domi, and who knows what happens with Patrik Laine."
To me value-wise it's close. Effectively 2 2nds, Gadjovich is looking to be a NHL player with top 6 potential and an expiring contract.

"One must ask the question: with lacklustre numbers, as well as a -10 rating this past season metrics, is Nugent-Hopkins losing his touch?"
"Edmonton needs from him is the offence that was promised when they selected him first overall. He must get back to his consistent numbers, and though injuries have plagued him, he must get his touch back. Additionally, the British Columbia native must get better in the face-off dot. Nugent-Hopkins only wins about 43 percent of his draws."
I can keep going but for you to think he is a "Selke-type" player is silly. RNH is a top 6 player but not one that is worth the $6m price-tag and not one that EDM needs. EDM needs a quality defenseman with a low cap hit. How can you argue about trade value when you more than anyone else should know the cost of acquiring d-men with low cap hits that have some term. RNH is not Taylor Hall and Tanev is not Larrson but in this framework, the trade makes sense.
As far as the Sedins go, NYR needs to move one of their d-men.
"Defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal are buy out candidates. The 33-year old Girardi has three years left on his contract at $5.5 million per season. The 30-year old Staal has four years left at $5.7 million per."
This trade gives NYR potentially the missing pieces to make a cup run. One year left and a low-risk option given the age of their core.

My point. Tanev >> RNH. Reinhert is unproven and looks to be a bust and Caggiula is a bottom 6 forward. Oilers need to add to get Tanev. There are no free agent options in the price range that the Oilers would need to spend. How can an Oilers fan talk about value when Hall was traded for Larrson? That is clear evidence that quality dmen with low cap hits have immense trade value. IMO this is an easy trade for the Oil to make given what they need to win a cup.

I don't think Gud will get that much of a paycut. I like the 4 year deal given he will probably improve. Cheaper for longer I like better. I agree with Demko, probably need to resign Miller for like $2m or have someone to fill a back-up role. I take Reinhart over a pick.

All of Sbisa's points were easy points and garbage points, and Sbisa is not good defensively. People assume grit for good defensive play, not realizing grit is one of the most overrated aspects in a player. Some of the best defensive players in the league (Keith, Doughty, Hedman, etc.) aren't particularly physical, and some of the worst in the league (Girardi, Sbisa, Strait, Stuart (Both of them), etc.) are extremely physical because they can't do jack s*** in other areas.</i></div></div>

Agreed Palat is a better offensive forward then Hansen but here is the thing, Tampa will lose someone. Maybe the find a better deal but Hansen and a 2nd is comparable to what they would likely get back in return. I realize that you do not think Hansen is anything but he is. He does more then Palat does overall and contributes at a top 6 pace. Thats just reality based on statistics and the numbers he has put up the last couple of years. I am not saying that Hansen is a better offensive player then Palat is but he is a top 6 forward, with a low cap hit, that does a lot of things Palat does not.
As for Sbisa, again factor in WPG's situation all things considered. Is Enstrom better then Sbisa, yes. But again, how much does he get paid, is he worth the money, can WPG afford him, what about the expansion draft and the fact he takes up a reserve spot etc. Enstrom is a declining asset plain and simple that is TIED to WPG and impacts there future, like it or not. He will be moved and for far less then you think simply given his albatross contract.

Enstrom = 16pts in 72 games last season, 23 pts in 60 games the season before. He is not tough at all and gets worked over all time. He is paid like a top paring dman and is maybe a 5 hole guy. WPG needs to dump has contract and save cash plus needs defense given they finished 22nd last year in GA.

Not the point. I absolutely agree with you regarding the trade. Its the putting down of Hansen for no reason that i can see as being unfair. That's all.</i></div></div>
What is the value of Duchene is my question. He has been a ~60 point player his entire career (with the exception of one season), gets paid $6 million a year and has a negative +/- which is bad news for a center. Is Duchene a better player then Sbisa and Hansen, yes, no question. But the sum of the parts in my mind make sense for the Avs. A 1st, top 6 forward and top 5 d-man for a top 3 forward and bottom paring (at best) d-man.
