Not using LTIR space
I am not a big fan of trading anymore 1sts, might still lose this year 1st round pick too with conditions. 14 players on this team/ IR were 1st round picks and 6 that were 2nd round picks; the Devils are going to need promising young players on rookie contracts in the coming years.

Should have mentioned this would be at the trade deadline. I just don't think ARZ has enough to make it to the playoffs without a major add and that might just be another Taylor Hall scenario. Think it would be better to just continue building through the draft and not trying to rush it for a 1st round exit.
No idea on the return for Lindholm from BOS, just wanted to use extra cap for ARZ.

Brodin no, Fleury for cheap I think would help. Fleury struggled in the playoffs for a bit maybe he can help out Vanecek. Just be a veteran in the locker room. Plus outside of Haula and Toffoli; Fleury has played in more playoff games then the rest of the Devils combined.

I don't know what Kovacevic is worth, but the premise doesn't really make sense because Kovacevic is still a RD and Montreal doesn't have an actual need to "make room" for Xhekaj, Mailloux,/ Reinbacher next year, don't need more late round picks, and don't need a veteran depth goalie with worst save % in the AHL.</div></div>
Montreal has Matheson, Savard, Guehle, Barron, Harris, Kovacevic, Lindstrom, and Struble in the NHL now and Xhekaj, Mailloux, Reinbacher, or even Hutson possibly ready next year. Savard possibly retires or signs a team 1-2 team friendly deal before retiring. Which leaves 12 possible (8-9 if you have doubts about Lindstrom, Struble, etc) defenders next year.
Thought was Matheson and Savard would be the veterans others spots filled by players who would be around in 2-3 years when Caufield/ Suzuki/ Slaf where more in their primes. Left Kovacevic as odd man out. Also thought he filled what the Devils needed.

Based on Zadorov getting a 3rd and a 5th.
You talking a 4th and a 5th or does a 3rd need to be a part of it.

You said it yourself. Goaltending is a huge problem. There's no reason to try anything else until we try bringing in a good goalie and maybe a defenseman. And not a Xhekaj, a guy like Hanifin or M Pettersson</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>But we are a highly skilled team, who can win if we clean up a few things defensively and get better goaltending. The solution is not to get worse.</div></div>
Yeah I don't know anymore, seems like Fitz has done everything right: got Hamilton, brought in veteran depth with Palat/ Lazar/ Miller, brought in Marino/ Meier/ Toffoli/ Vanecek/ Haula through trades, and drafted Mercer/ Holtz/ Nemec/ and Hughes.
What else can be done at this point that hasn't already been done/tried personnel wise?

I think a 2nd is too much but generally agree Xhekaj is unique player nowadays.
Idea came from him getting sent down and Stuble, Barron, Guehle, Harris in the NHL, Mailloux, Xhekaj in the AHL, and Hutson in college. Seems like a lot of defenders ready to play in the NHL soon.

I just think the Devils need some attitude. The Devils have a big team, most guys are at least 6' 200lbs, but never use it to their advantage. If the Devils brought in Xhekaj think it would shift their mentality.
Outside of consistent goaltending, and with Hamilton healthy, it's a great team on paper their just missing something.

I don't see Petterson and Nedeljkovic as a big enough upgrade over Bahl and Vanecek to give up a 2nd and Foote. Plus Bahl and Vanecek are cheaper and under cap for another year.

FLA needs cap space to resign Reinhart, Montour, Forsling, Kulikov, Ekman-Larsson. Feels like too much to keep 3.35 Mil in the AHL if Knight doesn't rebound. Also Guzda and Weber had better numbers.

It's weird physical players are becoming more rare, so players like Bastian, Reeves, Martin, and Gudbranson get money/term.
I don't think Bastian is killing it but the Devils have enough players like Boqvist already, Boqvist felt redundant.

Killorn is 2x Stanley Cup winner that they needed to overpay to come play in ANA as a leader for a young-rebuilding team. Zegras has had two great seasons.
You cannot teach Killorn's experience: he's played 40 playoff games (140) less than Zegras has games total (180).

I am gun-shy on this with all the prospects the Devils rushed into action the last couple years/ Bahl & Hughes already getting major minutes. There is no risk in playing Nemec in AHL to start the season. If Miller struggles or Nemec plays spectacular go for it.

I think there is more: put up 26 pts play 12 mins a night, in defensive position, on the 4th line.
I think Mcloed can step up to 3C and want to see what he could do with Holtz, Bratt, Toffoli, or Meier. See if he can get elevated by better wing play.

Feels to much like Erat for Forsberg. I'm not as a high on Holtz as I used to be but if he turns into a nothing-burger I think the Devils would still take that and the future/ current cap flexibility over Anderson.
I do like Anderson as a player just not at that cap hit/ length.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CSStrowbridge</b></div><div>Yep, and that's really, REALLY bad news for Arizona. They have to get their **** sorted out soon, or they will enter a death spiral. No player will want to sign with them, so they won't have enough talent on the ice to sell tickets, making it impossible to find a permanent home, which will result in fewer players who will want to sign with them, etc.</div></div>
ARZ just had 3 guys resign with them that they traded at the deadline. They're not a top destination but players will sign with them.
Plus they are sticking to the plan of rebuilding, Chayka rushed it Armstrong looks committed to the long term: probably finish 20-25th this year in the standings, move Dumba, Zucker, Brown, Stretcher, O'Brien, Boyd, Dermott at the deadline, take on more bad contracts to hopefully get a 1st round pick, and repeat for 1-2 more years and wait for some of the prospects to develop. It's not fast but I like what they are doing a lot.

Utica also has Poulter signed to an AHL contract. So should be Kallgren - Poulter to start the year in the AHL.
Looks like its VV - Schmid to start the year. Would love Schneider/ Elliot as a 3rd goalie but not sure if they want to sit in the press box be up and down on waivers.
