It could be a 22 man roster with a league-min forward and league-min defenseman instead of Hunt. Or you could just wait the short amount of time it would take to accrue enough cap space to bring someone else up. Even with everyone in the lineup hitting all their bonuses, that's less than $2.5M off of next years available cap space of about $28M.. not accounting for various roster moves that could be done next offseason like send Freddy to Iowa, trading Lee if he doesn't pan out, etc. Would trading a inconsistent bottom-6 winger and a 6/7 d-man for a possible top-6 winger be the most important move of Guerin's tenure? Not at all. It's not that difficult of a move to navigate cap-wise, though.

Minnesota gets the more skilled and physical player in Lee to play with two undersized, non-physical players in Rossi and Zuccarello at the cost of his higher cap hit. He'd be a great net-front presence for that line.

Fan Opinions on Possible Players
Rossi is worth around what you'd value Foerster. Same age, similar production. They should just stick with him, but if they were to trade him, I'd say a top-6 winger would be great to get Mojo out of there. Although Yurov, Ohgren, and Heidt may make waiting a year or two the more pertinent move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Columbus is probably open to trading Laine for a 1st, but $4.350M retained for 3 seasons is a nonstarter.
And before you say "no team is taking his full cap hit", that's fine. Columbus has no cap crunch, and the timeline to compete likely starts in 2025-26. Laine fits that timeline, and if he rebounds, fits the need for top-end forward talent. There's no reason to retain significantly or sell low when we can just keep him.</div></div>
How would you be retaining for three years if he only has two left..?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Huge_Caniac_Abe_Lincoln</b></div><div>Rossi for Necas is interesting, I don't know what picks and/or prospects would need to be added to even it out. How is does Rossi project going forward? I'd be a bit concerned he wouldn't get much ice time with the center depth the Canes have, but if he can slot into the top 6 then it would be interesting since most of the Canes centers are bottom 9 guys imo.
I can't see the Isles retaining 50% for 2 years for only a 5th round pick.</div></div>
Rossi is just a rookie this year, but he likely won't finish too far behind how Aho did his rookie year. The thought here would be for Carolina to run Aho -> Rossi -> Kuzy -> Staal/KK down the middle. Not paying Necas and getting a guy on an ELC like Rossi should leave them plenty money to extend Guentzel I would think.

Lmao the only Boldy - Necas trade that would make sense would be a 1-for-1 and I'd rather have the guy who is younger, having the better year, and already signed long term to our team.

Precedent for a sign-and-trade should start with what Severson got -- a 3rd round pick. Both teams would rather just sign them as free agents.

Must win games with less than 4 goals
There's a lot of people on here trying to trade for Foligno, but regardless of the value here, I'm just curious if there's one example besides Matthew Tkachuk of a player getting traded after signing an extension. Because that one was an obvious sign and trade. Offers for Foligno have been all over the place, but I just don't see any realistic world he's traded. He also has a NMC, so that just adds to that thought...

Guentzel trade
I would love to have Guentzel, but if Timo Meier of all people can get $8.8M x 8, I don't think its worth it for the Wild to sign him for $9M+, let alone give up three good assets for the first opportunity to do so.

Why Not
Instead of trading for Tanev, Leafs should just hire a medium to perform a séance allowing Tim Horton or another HOFer to occupy the body of Timmins or Villeneuve or someone. Wouldn't cost any prospects or draft capital.

Wild would need quite the sweetener to consider trading for a more expensive player with one less year under contract while also creating a pairing of two 5'9" players. Not Guerin's style.

Tanev x 2
Outside opinion, so I can't say anything about the performance of or sentiment towards Oleksiak/Tanev, but if Seattle moves either of those two, it's because they are selling, and they certainly wouldn't tack on picks to move them. Certainly not for half a season of Brodie and the "prospect" that is Robertson.

Sample size is small, but he's currently playing similar ice-time to Sergachev with tougher assignments and producing better metrics.

It'd have to be 50% retained and Goligoski would have to be LTIR for the rest of the season. I wouldn't mind giving him PP time and sheltered third pair minutes once Spurgeon is back, but seems unlikely a GM would trade for the same rental player two years in a row.

Treliving signing these two former Wild rentals surprised me. Reaves played like 3/4 of the regular season for the Wild last year. I don't remember one fight out of him. Even when they put him on the ice the next time Logan Stanley was out there after injuring Kaprizov. Dude is nearly 37, so I can't blame him for throwing a couple hits a game to cash checks. At least Klingberg is just one year and Reaves contract is mostly buriable if it comes to that.
