Pittsburgh Penguins signed Kris Letang (6 Years / $6,100,000 AAV)

CapFriendly updated the contract on the player's page. NMC for first four years. Front-loaded with $8mil first two years. Then 1 yr @ $6.2 mil. Rest of contract $4.8 mil. So yeah, looks like if he retires early, it's all on the Pens.

I have never fully understood retirement recapture and don't really want to put in the work tbh.</div></div>

(STL/NYR) - Blais, 2nd for Buchnevich
Unless Drury flips Blais in a trade for another, far better player in the coming days, this is a colossal screw up.

Why can't Smith just be buried in Hartford again?

Columbus Blue Jackets signed Mark Letestu (1 Year / $750,000 AAV)
Meh. I don't believe he moves the needle for the team, but the money is great and the term is ideal. He can contribute as a depth player. The only possible negative (I don't know his possession metrics) is that he could be taking a roster spot from a promising prospect (don't know what Columbus has there).

Washington Capitals signed Brooks Orpik (1 Year / $1,500,000 AAV)
This is so weird.
Caps make Colorado take him since they want Grubauer, thus clearing his cap hit so they can re-sign Carlson.
Colorado buys Orpik out since he doesn't fit in with their plans, putting them on the hook for the last year of his contract. But it's only one year so they figure they can take it.
And then Washington signs him back at a reasonable $1 mil.
So I guess everyone involved wins.

New York Rangers signed Jimmy Vesey (2 Years / $2,275,000 AAV)
Not terrible, though I agree he's a bottom 6 forward. In his two seasons, he's managed 27 & 28 points, so this payday is in line with his production. Rangers have ton of cap space and it's only two years. So long as there's no NTC, he can always be packaged up in a trade. He's a UFA when it's done. Rangers can then move on, and prospects can take his place. I'll take Vesey in the lineup any day over McLeod!

trouba prices himself out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hedman77</b></div><div>Why would the rangers do that? They’re rebuilding</div></div>
I can see the Rangers being interested in Trouba, but I don't see Skjei being the piece they trade. Rangers are thin down the left side of D and overstocked on the right. While acquiring Trouba would be an upgrade over Skjei, the Rangers would still need more guys on the left, thus forcing some of those RD to play on their off side. Not ideal.
I'm not familiar enough with Winnipeg's needs to know what they'd be trying to pry out of the Rangers, but I could see the Rangers parting with forwards to acquire Trouba. Over on fan boards, I've heard speculation that Zuc, Hayes, Spooner, and Vesey are available. Losing Hayes or Zuc would be a mistake IMO.
I'd read that Trouba was looking for playing time last summer and this season Winnipeg gave it to him. While playing in NYC has its allure, playing for a team that's a contender would be more desirable, no? Rangers will be a playoff bubble team this year. Still a couple of seasons away from being a Cup contender.

Hoping that he finds his way to Hartford by October 1st.
