Which trade package would you rather get in exchange for EK65
I would lean Carolina. I think the Sharks would flip Teuvo, either immediately or at the trade deadline and I think he's probably worth a late first (maybe less, since he's coming off a down year). I'm not super familiar with any of the prospects; Gunler was picked higher and two years earlier, so maybe he's closer to the NHL?
I suppose with Pittsburgh's package there's a better chance that the 1st rounder transfers this year or that there's a better chance for a higher pick in 2025. Still leaning Canes though

Realistic Isles Opening Night
Gotta think Fasching will play over Gauthier?
Personally, I'm hoping Parise will re-sign and then you go:
Lee-Horvat-Barzal
Engvall-Nelson-Palmieri
Parise-Pageau-Wahlstrom
Martin-Cizikas-Fasching
If Lee continues to struggle on the top line, maybe switch him and Parise? Parise has always played well with Barzal

Not sure if the Isles would take that, but I certainly think they should. Pageau is a fine player, but he makes too much for his role. Clearing $5 million to put towards another area of the team would be welcome I think

He plays well with a good partner and poorly with a bad one. Boneheaded at times, but I appreciate his physicality and occasional offensive contributions, he does more than you’d think. Best on a third pair but is an adequate #4 if his partner is good

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigShoots</b></div><div>The reason it makes some sense to me is that they just traded for Horvat. Horvat, Barzal and Nelson are all capable centers.</div></div>
Oh I agree and imo they should all be playing center. I'm hoping they set them up 1-2-3 down the middle next year but I think we're going to see Barzal and Horvat play together again, at least to start. They had some chemistry early and the upside is there, but moving Barzal off C seems to have been a bigger adjustment than anticipated.
If they do decide to use those three as centers though, Pageau absolutely should be expendable and getting a true winger in return would be ideal

I definitely would be, big fan of Garland. It's hard to see happening irl though because Garland might be too small for their liking and then the Isles would be down a 3C themselves

Fair enough. Hard to imagine the Isles moving Pageau but we badly need help on the wings (I'd rather sign someone better than Engvall for the top-6). Trading him for Garland (or even Boeser potentially) is something I'd be interested in

To My Isles Fans
Aho was one of our better D last season, trading him for a 3rd would be a waste. Better to not sign Hamonic or send Bolduc to the AHL.
Rest of the team looks okay but I doubt they go with both Durandeau and Holmstrom in the lineup (and I’d prefer they didn’t)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Okposo_Lover</b></div><div>Islanders would need to send back Palmieri or Bailey but otherwise would consider it.
Would also need to have a long term extension in place at 8 or so. Not gonna pay all that for one year at 9 mil</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tm0000</b></div><div>I think the Isles would do that trade in a second if there was any way they could fit a Debrincat extension under the cap, but that seems unlikely.</div></div>
I might be a victim of some recency bias in bringing this up but what do you guys think about a trade centered around DeBrincat for Dobson? Aho looks poised to step into a top-4 OFD role and could hopefully replace some of Dobson’s offense on the back end and in this scenario, Ottawa’s getting back a useful player they can use now.
Not saying either side should do it but it interested me, wanted other opinions

Landing Bedard Offer Sheeting Wahlstrom Signing Bertuzzi Severson Fast
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>With what cap space?</div></div>
If they’re smart, Bailey will finally be bought out or traded this offseason and Mayfield will become a free agent. That will give us about ~10 million in space, more than enough for Wahlstrom, a 3rd pair D and backup goalie. Not much space for actual upgrades, but it’s not like the Isles have ever been active in free agency under Lou anyways

Wahlstrom
I'm at the point where I would probably be able to stomach a Wahlstrom trade, but I'd rather move him as part of a package for Meier or another big forward. There's an argument to be made that the Isles need to rebuild (or at least retool significantly), but they're locked into a lot of big deals for the time being. I think they continue to try competing for now and pick 29-32 doesn't really help too much with that.
That said, I think the value is about right, maybe even slightly in the Isles favor, considering Wahlstrom really has stagnated due to factors (imo) largely out of his control

Montreal
<em>If</em> Monahan slid over to the wing, I could maybe see a fit. The Isles will have enough space at the deadline that paying to retain probably won't be necessary. I don't think his value is at a 1st round pick right now anyways. I think something like a 2nd and a 5th is a lot more reasonable for him

Johnston did his job on Tuesday but Nashville isn't a team we need to bring the heavyweights for.
I'm thinking top 6 looks more or less like this. 3rd line is probably Bailey - JGP - one of Fasching/Bardreau, with the other one playing next to Martin & Cizikas on the 4th line.</div></div>
Hopefully Holmstrom going down really is just a cap move. He’s been nice for us imo

Reilly Waivers
I'm all for it, wanted Reilly bad back when he was a UFA in 21. Would prefer if we could offset his cap hit somehow in some type of trade, but the Isles do have cap space to play with both this year and next. Should be able to make it work for the value that he could potentially bring.

Tweaking things
Parise and Palms have been great this year, no need to replace them. I’d like another LHD upgrade but I don’t think Mikkola is better than either Aho or Salo and he’s more expensive.
Tarasenko I could be open to at the TDL, but I do worry about the cost.
