If that’s all Dadonov costs I’d do it today.
Haven’t seen a ton of Montreal this year but he’s a good player that just doesn’t fit. Could fit over here?

Reilly Waivers
I'm all for it, wanted Reilly bad back when he was a UFA in 21. Would prefer if we could offset his cap hit somehow in some type of trade, but the Isles do have cap space to play with both this year and next. Should be able to make it work for the value that he could potentially bring.

Tweaking things
Parise and Palms have been great this year, no need to replace them. I’d like another LHD upgrade but I don’t think Mikkola is better than either Aho or Salo and he’s more expensive.
Tarasenko I could be open to at the TDL, but I do worry about the cost.

What's the price for Dumoulin? On paper, I think he's my top LHD acquisition for the Isles if that spot doesn't resolve itself as the season goes on.
Pens should be fine imo, the Metro is still totally up for grabs, but still

What can the Sharks give Timo Meier to make him look past his qualifying offer
Depends on what kind of year he has this year, he's off to a (uncharacteristically) slow start. The Sharks seem pretty terrible, so honestly, they might not even be the ones making this decision since trading him for futures seems like it might be the best move.
If he picks it up, has a year he's accustomed to having and is still with the team at the season's end, how hard would it be for him to argue for a long-term extension worth $10 million AAV, especially with the cap projected to go up soon? Especially since he has some leverage?
I hate proposing things like this, but the Sharks might be best off trading him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Better off just trading him for max return. It’s a bad roster, multiple bad contracts, a few good pieces in pipeline. Go full rebuild. They are not going to compete for few years anyway. Great uniforms at least, they killed it there.</div></div>
Really? Personally not a fan, I thought the old unis were some of the best in the league, home and road honestly

I am ready to get hurt again
These lines could be good honestly, I thought Barzal played his best hockey next to 11 and 21 last season, even if they aren't the top 2 wingers on the team. Soshnikov >> Martin/Johnston, if for no other reason to see what we've got before going back to them. That 4th line needs a shot in the arm, hopefully he's it.

Honestly seems like it makes sense for both sides. Rangers defense looks sick here and Toronto gets a high upside RHD on ELC to platoon with/replace Holl.

Who can they overtake in the Metro
Would still take the Rangers and Canes over NJ. Devils' ceiling this season is probably 3rd in the Metro with all of the question marks with NYI, PIT and WSH. I think one of those teams will click this year and finish ahead of them, putting NJ in wild card contention.
In any case, I think the Devils are gonna take a big step this season and will be primed for serious playoff contention by 2024

no fun trades or anything - the realistic isles opening lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Johnston is way worse than Martin imo. Also I think trading Martin would piss off the locker room anyway. IMO he should rotate with Parise/Bellows and Clutterbuck on the 4th line. No way Martin or Clutterbuck can play a full 82 game schedule anyway.</div></div>
You’re probably right about the locker room. To me though, Johnston is a little more mobile than Martin, while still playing physical and being somewhat defensively responsible. It’s not a big upgrade, but I feel like over 82 games it would be noticeable

Tbf I think Johnston is better than Martin, it would never happen but they’re better off just waiving him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>Clutter is at least replacement level, but Martin might not even be AHL caliber at this point. Team worked so hard to change the culture, giving Martin a job just because seems like a bad idea when there are better players on the roster. It’s not like Martin still provides value, he’s just not a professional level hockey play anymore.</div></div>
Maybe things will be different with Lambert but one of my least favorite things about this team over the last two seasons is how obvious it's been that the 4th line is absolutely cooked and how much they continue to praise/value it on and off the ice. Collectively, they have like one strong game out of 10. You would think that instead of running them into the ground every night, they would look to evolve and build an even better version of them, but they don't unless they're forced to and then they run right back to them. Truly hope this changes under Lambert since they were such a massive asset in 18-19 and 19-20
