Realistically
90% of DET fans are out to lunch with respect to their roster and trade proposals, but this one is decent.
Ehlers is a top line RW/LW *when he's healthy*. He is targeted A LOT. Any team wanting him, "MUST" protect him. He can take over a game. Not like MacK or McD, but enough. But, because he smaller, he gets flat out illegally hit, etc... all the time.
He's a game breaker, but he's also very vulnerable.
Protect him and you win this trade. Don't and you lose the trade.

You don't know if that will be the case next fall, If it is he'll be dealt to an American team. He'll need to get his shot because no GM is paying him big money to miss 10 games a year in Canada.

Realistic 20-21 Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KakkoForMauriceRichardAward</b></div><div>IMO Veleno makes their team out of camp</div></div>
I personally don't see Veleno making the team but getting a shot at coming up this year for a 10 game trial.
But in general I dont see Detroit taking Haula Greiss or Brodie, we still have Frans Nielsen for better or worse aswell Matthias Bröme. Good chance we take on some bad contracts and could see some good returns. A popular trade is Demko+Ericksson and a second but these are just fan favorites.
As for contracts I dont see AM making more than Larkin and TB probably getting a little less.

Red Wings Opening Day Lineup
it could happen this way. A bit much for Eberle but all id change is to flip Eberle and mantha I think. I dont like AA with a couple smurf wingers. get him some size and space. Maybe the speed is enough but maybe not

Next Year
A few things here:
1. He can't get 7 years if DET signs him. His max would be 6. He could get 8 from SJS until July 1st, and 7 after July 1st, but only from SJS.
2. He'll get more than 10, it'll be more like 11, 11.25. I don't think he'll command 12, mainly because he's older than Tavares and way older than Matthews. He'll get max years, but not max money.
3. SJS is all in this year. I don't think having 3 defenders taking ~40% of the cap is sustainable, especially with a bunch of FA forwards they'll have to restock. They'll have $24mm to sign 10 bodies (including the cap increase), and 1 guy taking close to 50% of that makes it hard. I expect Karlsson to go for a cup, and win or lose, leave SJS (and California period, see next bullet).
4. 11.5 in CA is like 10.5 in DET, like 9.75 in Florida. Taxes are playing a huge role in where players sign (especially if its their last big contract). CA taxes are equivalent to Canadian taxes.
5. DET is an Original 6 team, a cap spending team, and known for player and lifestyle quality. This isn't basketball. There is a reason why Steve Yzerman's family never left DET (and why he'll be back with the org next year), why every former player talks glowingly about the organization (even Babcock constantly praises the org), why it's run by former Red Wings and NHL players, why it's had the same owner since the early 80s, why they get meetings with top FAs (guarantee they'll get a meeting with Panarin, Karlsson, and Stone if they make it to FA). Very few teams can say that. DET is the model franchise everyone is trying to build (and every owner admits it).

Brock no but im all in on myers with you. Hes a legit top pair guy. Most of all he can log huge minutes and play in his own zone. I think trouba will be to expensive honestly.

Next Years Wings
These are the contracts that will lead to the next lockout. I know the Red Wings have to overpay players to come but 5,75 for Brock Nelson and 7 for Myers? There are probably some better and cheaper options out there.

Some moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Jets are looking to dump salary not add. Decline
What incentive do Yotes have to give up a 2nd for a rental for team that is going nowhere this year? Decline</div></div>
Agreed. if/when nyquist gets traded, he’ll go to a cup contender for a 1st rounder and possibly a 4th rounder as well.
And I honestly don’t see the wings trading Big E. I think they’ll trade Green or Daley before the start of next season but not big E. They’ll let him finish out his contract and then let him walk probably. If wings traded him, they’d either have to retain salary or trade a 4th round pick along w him just to get a 6th/7th round pick in return. It’s a lose-lose. Let him stay on the back end, there will be 2-3 spots on our defense open next year for hronek and hicketts or whoever

You can gain more cap relief. Just as a side note. Call your players up first. Then LTIR Z. You can see it in my most recent post. Using the pro mode you can get the cap hit to around 75m

Making Room For Rookies
I Agree with "thatguy". I think Zadina gets a spot over Svechnikov... but if your the coach, its your decision... tough call on the rookies.. but i agree that Detroit needs to make more room and start moving on from the older generation.. could be a few years of cleansing old contracts before the real "rebuilding" begins.

I like the Faulk trade. I think Mantha gets a little more than that. A buyout of Abdelkader and a draft day trade for a good D-man you're there.
