One deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Well you haven't been watching the Leafs if you think that is the lineup. Holmberg has been playing well at centre and Jarnkrok looks like he is a second line LWer.
So who does Jeannot replace the makes the Leafs
better....ZAR? Knies (who isn't a Leaf yet). Hunt (yes that would be improvement) Still seems pretty pricey to me for a 3rd at best but more a 4th liner.</div></div>
Who he replaces depends mostly on the opponent come playoff time. If you get Tampa in round one, perhaps size and toughness would be better suited on the third line, to counter The heavy style Tampa’s bottom six like to play. Or maybe he’s top six to try and wear down the opponents big guns.
While players like holmberg and hunt have been nice additions, I don’t think that they are going to nor should be expected to be an impact player in the playoffs this season. Unless someone gets hurt.
The Leafs have been ousted in round one for a bunch of reasons. Inexperience and lack of depth and team toughness being the main areas of concern. They have the experience this year, (I mean, they have figured a multitude of ways to lose, it’s time to win for a change).
Jeannot, or someone with a similar style of play, would provide depth and toughness; whether he is playing a bottom six role, or moving up into a top six, depending on the opponent and/or if Knies can be an impact player.
Maybe they do have the horses to get it done this year, without making any big trades. I hope so. I would prefer to see a team play together all season and win together. But as a Leaf fan of 40 years, I also know that the first 82 games don’t really matter. I really think they need to add a little more toughness. And not just fighting. Hard on pucks. Finishing checks. Face wash Opponents after every whistle. Be the instigator of intimidation instead of reacting to it. That is what will put this team over the top. They have the top end talent. Only need is that one guy that will help create the space for the superstars to do their thing and maybe throw in a big goal here and there.
And in the playoffs, they all make the same of money. So who cares if you have $3.5M contract on the 4th line.

As a Leaf fan, your opinion on the bottom 6 is pretty accurate. I like the idea of Tanner coming to town. Just what Leafs need.

At this point I wouldn’t do Knies for Miller straight up. So if that’s the type of return you expect for Miller, and don’t find a way to extend him, have fun watching him walk.

The Rasmus Sandin situation
The three names we are hearing most are Kerfoot, Holl and Muzzin.
The tough one is Muzzin. It comes down to his NTC. When healthy he is worth the money he is making so a return should be decent depending on where he is willing to go and what their cap situation is. Where does he go and what kind of return can the Leafs expect?
Another name worth noting here is William Nylander. He could garner a hefty return from the right dance partner. Any thoughts on this possibility?

Muzzin doesn’t likely waive cuz of Lou and his no beard policy. I just want to get rid of that contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wadejos123</b></div><div>Don't think this is good for the leafs unless you really think Nylander won't resign or you have s plan to move out Tavares to be able to afford Hubby</div></div>
I suspect that Willy will walk as leaf’s won’t likely give him what he will get on open market. I’d rather have one year of hubredeau and watch him walk then the two with Willy.
Unfortunately I don’t see a scenario where Tavares gets moved. Great player and if not for Covid and the flat cap, his contract wouldn’t look quite as bad. I believe Tavares has been and still is a vital piece of this roster and should have a much better year this year if he can get a playmaker on his wing.

If Severson is gonna bolt, I'm OK with him to Tor, but I prefer him to stay, I'm in the minority though our fanbasecis split on him. Our RHD should be set, in fact I think we are done building the D</div></div>
Willy has actually put up some decent playoff numbers last couple of seasons, but he does have moments where he seems hesitant to take a hit to make a play. Then other times he’s throwing a hit and producing turnovers.
All in all I think this is a good hockey trade and does fill needs for both teams.

I agree. While I like the lineup, Sandin looks to me like he’s gonna be a big piece of this blue line for years to come.
Trading Muzzin is more of a priority than Holl. I’d keep Holl for all the reasons you listed in your description.
Muzzin trade is gonna be very difficult and return doesn’t matter as it frees up enough money for sandin and Knies (when knies joins the team for playoff run). And even a little left over for salary retention in a Muzzin deal if necessary.

I figured he’d be closer to 9. Maybe a bit north of that. That’s why the cap space left.

Arizona is paying the same money out either way. At least by moving out little, they are getting production for their money.
At the end of the day, yotes get the better player in the deal and the leafs get a solid fwd and cap space in return. Cap space as we know, is much needed.
Muzzin stamping this deal is the biggest question.

Sorry Willy But youve been traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Funksoljah</b></div><div>There's no reason to believe Tage can't score 30+ again which is a more realistic expectation. He has expressed how much he wants to be in Buffalo and to be a part of the teams future.
Nylander is a good winger, but he's also a couple years older and has a higher chance of simply going UFA in 2 years than Tage who would still be a year away. Teams like Buffalo get better by growing their own players who want to be there, not by trading them away for players who could walk in 2 years.</div></div>
It wouldn’t matter how many goals he gets. The fact that he’s a big body with some hands is exactly what Leafs need.
For the record, I doubt sabres ever do this deal. Or Dubas for that matter.
This is the type of deal Leafs need to execute.
