Both team decline decline, while I don't know the young prospect Dylan Guenther, I know that Hughes wouldn't want to have one of is major decisions be base on a gambling. MTL would be pretty low next season on they're own without need to have someone else pick.

Thread:
Realistic trade Dont read this if you are a Rangers fan you have been warned
Why is Boucher the main piece in a Kakko trade? There was a team in the top half of the first round other than the Senators who were rumored to be super high on Boucher at the 2021 draft. It is part of the reason that the Senators did not trade back. Multiple people have speculated that based on the kind of players the new management of the Rangers was bringing in, that they were the team who were high on him.
Kakko was a blue chip prospect, who at times has shown potential to be a star. After three underwhelming seasons where he played at a 31 point pace, the Rangers made a statement by scratching him in what would have been the most important game of his career. With his ELC over, and clearly their being no real fit in New York, there is lots of speculation about whether he would be available in a trade.
It is very difficult to pin point what teams would offer for Kakko. There aren't many comparable situations. Nolan Patrick, who might be the only example of a more disappointing 2nd overall pick than Kakko was swapped for Cody Glass. It is entirely possible that a team might still be very high on Kakko, and give the Rangers a 1st round pick. It is also possible that teams won't offer up very much. We've seen other players who were picked high (although not as high as Kakko) like Lias Andersson only attract a late 2nd rounder at a similar point in their development.
Let's break down this package. We already discussed Boucher. We'll assume in the context of this trade, the Rangers management loves him and would have used their pick on him last year had the Senators not taken him 10th. The 39th pick is a decent asset that might get the Rangers a player they have ranked in the first round. The Rangers do not have their 1st or 3rd round picks in this draft, so it might be desirable to get a draft pick. Then as far as Brannstrom goes, I doubt the Rangers want him that much, but he verges on throw in territory. He is maybe worth a 3rd round pick, but he is 2 years removed from being seen as a top prospect in the league, so from an optics POV having his name in the trade would allow the Rangers to present the package to their fan base as being bigger than it is. He can be used in a sheltered role at ES and as a Powerplay specialist. They can likely sign him to a 1-2 year extension for very little money as he is not arbitration eligible. The Senators have been shopping him all year, without much success.
Why do the Senators do this? Because Kaapo Kakko still is a high end talent worth gambling on. Similar to Brannstrom, he will likely sign a 2 year extension since he doesn't have arbitration rights. It's a swing for the fences type pickup that could give the Senators a star forward for not very much. Still, the Senators are very high on Boucher internally, so you have to understand that in this context, they will feel they are giving up a big piece to get Kakko.
I fully understand Rangers fans will think this trade is kakka.

i remeber when Sabers fans were saying Eichel would get them 10 unprotected firsts, the best player on the opposing team, and their best prospect... DeBrincat would net something like this, proly minus a actual 7th OA, but a 1first a A- to B+ prospect a 3rd line player that is still in his early 20s and a 2nd rounder or another minor prospect.

not nearly enough , Sens would have to add a Pinto, Greig or top tier prospect Dman to this package to even get Davidson's attention IMO

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>They totally do this. Debrincat is a goal scoring stud. They rid themselves of the White contract. Brannstrom is a bust, Boucher is gonna be nothing. Formenton, Pinto and Grieg plus a top 10 protected first is well worth it. Plus it opens up future cap space for a big contract to resign the Cat. And Murphy gives them a steady top 4 for years
IT's time for OTT to start trading their cupboard of prospects</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GDubb2Shiesty</b></div><div>I agree Debrincat is a world class goal scorer and Ottawa absolutely needs to move some of their prospects, but I don't see them moving Grieg, Pinto or Boucher unless Dorion gets replaced. I would love to see Debrincat in Ottawa but Dorion is known to be stingy when it comes time to trading for big name players. I also think its too early to say Boucher will be nothing when he plays exactly like Tom Wilson and that style of player is becoming more valuable, but i aslo agree Brannstrom is looking more and more like a bust</div></div>
I wouldn't call Brannstrom a bust cause he's an everyday capable NHL player who was a mid first round pick. However he did not live up to what was expected from him after being traded for Mark Stone.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>His comparable at the time was Karlsson and he was supposed to be his replacement. Probably not fair to him to put that kind of pressure on, but he hasn't even hit half a Karlsson yet which is disappointing.</div></div>
I don't think anyone expected him to be near the level of Karlsson it's just that they're both Swedish offensive smaller defensemen. Chabot had already stepped up after his departure. Brannstrom was a 15th overall pick the year before, those typically don't turn out to be Karlsson level players (except Karlsson himself lol). So if a 15th overall pick is an NHL regular running a powerplay at 22 than I wouldn't call that a bust.

IMO, OTT declines. They're not trading their #1 center for another winger. He's got way too much chemistry with Brady and Bath. They're gonna have to pay him this year, but not as much as Fiala will be owed.

if Ottawa was a cup contender perhaps but they need to become a playoff contender first. If someone had earned 90 million in their career and spent the last 11 years not dealing with winter it would likely take one helluva sales pitch to get them to make the move.
