Letting Go of Buch
The Rangers are not doing that. And the Blues are not trading Buch for only wingers. This does not work for anyone.

Laffy is starting to look like his normal self from his junior hockey highlights….Kakko on the other hand is more likely a middle 6 guy with 40 points and great defense, which is fine because you need those guys too
But I can’t stand when people say Kakko sucks, but don’t look at Kreider and Mika’s 5v5 stats because them 2 don’t help Kakko at all

Overpayment by the Rangers, I wouldn’t trade Kakko for Vatrano 1-1. Vatrano is way overrated on this site and Kakko is way underrated.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Given NYR are division rivals, not sure Briere would even consider the deal in the first place. If he did, I'd ask for Perreault for Laughton with that retention is worth the risk and compare it to other offers. I can understand that being too much for Drury so at minimum the 2026 1st and 3rd with the 2024 2nd. Like I said, Briere might not even consider an in division rival unless substantial overpayment.</div></div>
You must be out of your mind asking for Perreault for Laughton... would be if we would ask for your top prospect for Goodrow at 50% retention...

Oh I'm on board with that line of think entirely 👍

Big fan of this. It gives you the future C they need. And one that has real chemistry with your top prospect.

Stanley Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GM69</b></div><div>I absolutely love Lindgren on NYR. He's a warrior. That being said, he's a pending RFA whose body has taken a LOT of damage over the years. I do not believe his next contract will age very well or be worth it even 3 years down the road. Lauzon plays a similar defensive game, but also throws his body around a lot more (~400 more hits in ~40 less games). He plays a bit bigger than Lindgren does and is signed for another 2 seasons at only $2m. Lindgren's next deal will be MINIMALLY $4.5m (if he takes a team friendly deal that is) but is looking to be closer to $6m. That gives me such Girardi/Staal vibes in terms of how it will age. Downgrading from Lindgren to Lauzon is just worth the extra $2.5-4m in cap space that NYR could use to upgrade at RW/C while also potentially getting an extra mid draft pick should Nashville want to upgrade.</div></div>
Interesting. Makes sense.
I know that when Lauzon initially signed his contract, it was met with some skepticism. He hadn’t really fit in NSH and got an expensive-ish contract for a bottom pairing guy. But he’s really prospered in his role imo— he hits, plays PK, is a very smooth skater, has good puck control, can handle playing in the top 4 when needed. Definitely better than I would’ve thought when he signed.
I’m not sure I see NSH going after a LHD with Josi and McDonagh on the team though. Lauzon could be traded considering NSH has a few prospects (Stastney and Del Gaizo) ready to go, but he could just move to the right side if needed as well. NSH would ultimately be more interested in a guy like Schneider as opposed to Lindgren— but I doubt he would be made available.

What Drury should do at the TDL
I'd probably do that.
I'd try and counter with Duke 50% retained instead of MG and drop Jones, Berard, and the 4th from the trade since you'll still have space for an extra. Obv throws a wrinkle for next year since MG has the extra year at 5m.
Either way, as is it's an interesting trade that the Sharks should consider.

Realistic cost
A realistic cost would be a massive overpayment. Rangers haven't given up on him and hes looked better the last two weeks than he has in a long time. Picks don't help the Rangers right now, hes playing top 6 mins, so they'd need a roster player back to fill that role and he would have to fit under the cap. Rangers have less than 90k in cap space last time I checked.

how much can 88 get from NYR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR1983</b></div><div>So I can see 1 of 2 things happening with NY. If he’s signs of course. Kane plays 3RW or 1RW with Kakko on 3RW. Kane most likely wants to win a cup rather than collect more money which he has loads of currently. BUF can definitely pay more so if he needs a big payday then teams like BUF/ARZ/CHI could be there. Last year he could have gone anywhere but specifically picked NYR or nothing. So it seems more like he’s set on NYR. As for last year, he was one of the better players in the playoffs considering the guy was injured. If you think he can play at full potential when needing the surgery he got, well then your expectations are too high. And if he wanted a payday he would have signed in July/Aug.</div></div>
People on X (insiders) are already saying that preliminary things are in the works to bring him back. Kakko has been underwhelming this year. So I can see him being on Cuylle and Trochek's line and then Kane with Zibanejad and Kreider. Pitlick is likely going to be waived soon.
