<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GM69</b></div><div>I absolutely love Lindgren on NYR. He's a warrior. That being said, he's a pending RFA whose body has taken a LOT of damage over the years. I do not believe his next contract will age very well or be worth it even 3 years down the road. Lauzon plays a similar defensive game, but also throws his body around a lot more (~400 more hits in ~40 less games). He plays a bit bigger than Lindgren does and is signed for another 2 seasons at only $2m. Lindgren's next deal will be MINIMALLY $4.5m (if he takes a team friendly deal that is) but is looking to be closer to $6m. That gives me such Girardi/Staal vibes in terms of how it will age. Downgrading from Lindgren to Lauzon is just worth the extra $2.5-4m in cap space that NYR could use to upgrade at RW/C while also potentially getting an extra mid draft pick should Nashville want to upgrade.</div></div>

Interesting. Makes sense.

I know that when Lauzon initially signed his contract, it was met with some skepticism. He hadn’t really fit in NSH and got an expensive-ish contract for a bottom pairing guy. But he’s really prospered in his role imo— he hits, plays PK, is a very smooth skater, has good puck control, can handle playing in the top 4 when needed. Definitely better than I would’ve thought when he signed.

I’m not sure I see NSH going after a LHD with Josi and McDonagh on the team though. Lauzon could be traded considering NSH has a few prospects (Stastney and Del Gaizo) ready to go, but he could just move to the right side if needed as well. NSH would ultimately be more interested in a guy like Schneider as opposed to Lindgren— but I doubt he would be made available.
