<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsleaks123</b></div><div>This is pretty good but trading a 1st to offload Mrazek is ridiculous considering how cheap his buyout is</div></div>
With salary cap remaining stagnant for the next few years as revenues slowly creep back to their pre Covid-19 norms; I don’t see Toronto performing any buyouts as it is truly wasted cap space. Dubas has made a point in recent press conferences to remind us that Phil Kessel retention is off the books this summer. I highly doubt he is going to replace that dead salary with a new one. You are correct though that it is a high price to pay to undo a mistake and his buyout is compelling enough to consider.

Ritchie could rebound with the right situation. Ottawa likes big, strong players and DJ Smith likes rolling toughness. Del Zotto has barely played for Ottawa and both could be a decent swap of bad players

Add a Forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>No. Leafs are my second favourite team. Most teams draft in cycles and try to fit a blueprint. Defence when they need defence forwards when they need forwards, skilled guys for top lines and fast guys who can forecheck in later rounds. Toronto just drafts skilled forwards and even when they need a RD and Braden Schneider is sitting there they draft a forward. I don’t get it there should be enough forwards in the system. The AHL doesn’t start till February 5th as well there should be guys sitting around looking for action.</div></div>
There are simply more forwards to always draft bc there is simply more for awards in hockey. Teams should never draft based on current need, that’s a mistake past managers have made not Dubas

Add at Deadline with 6 Man Taxi Squad
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>I understand he has value. For sure. I'd love to see him come to the leafs. But he's not costing a first. I'll use your own argument against you with Goodrow. While Foligno might be slightly better, there are 3 reasons why the logic of Goodrow does not apply to Foligno.
a) He's payed 2.875 as opposed to 0.9 mil.
b) Goodrow had an extra year on his contract.
c) Technically Goodrow didn't cost a first anyway since Tampa also got a 3rd round pick in the deal.
So, in conclusion, I'd say the above package is a perfectly fair one, maybe even a slight overpay.</div></div>
Well done this is the exact conclusion I reached. Thank you for putting the time into explaining it so well

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>".Leafs will be able to accrue cap space this year if we don’t have any major injuries (placed on LTIR)". Actually that isn't true. A team accrue more cap space if their major injuries to big cap players and they are placed on LTIR. Last year the Leafs were to expand their roster when Muzzinand Reilly went on LTIR, But you really don't want your best players getting injured just so you can get cap space.</div></div>
Last year the Leafs did not accrue any cap space. They simply used the space created by putting players on LTIR. That is different. I’m speaking about actual cap space being created

Actually this is incorrect- you cannot accrue cap space with players on LTIR
