<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>As recently evidenced by Toffoli, players who produce elsewhere generally are stifled in LA's defensive-first system. Essentially reduce all point totals by 30% if you play in LA. Guys that are struggling offensively elsewhere are not going to succeed in LA. While I don't disagree that Drouin could do well with a change of scenery, I don't think that would be the case in LA. I don't think he would do well.
You're right about Guhle. For some reason I mistook him with Anaheim's Brendan Guhle, who is significantly more underwhelming. That changes things a bit. Drop Drouin from the trade, and swap out the 2021 1st with the 2022 1st and I think LA would go for it.</div></div>
I understand your point of view now on Drouin and the playing style in LA, that makes sense and it would probably serve him better to be on a more offensive minded team.
Thank you again for your input,

2021-2022 fair offer for Danault
I would love to sign Danault to that contract, but unfortunately I don't think he will accept. From the rumors, I think it will be very close to a 5 million AAV, similar to Pageau's contract. Those numbers help to try to negotiate it down though. Anything under 5 million AAV and I would be satisfied.

Kaiden Guhle was a 16th overall pick in 2020 Draft and is highly regarded, I don't think his addition should be overlooked.
Let me just say, I am a Montreal Fan and I have been frustrated with Drouin. That being said, I believe he has value as a complimentary offensive piece in a top 6. He puts up numbers and has strong playmaking skills. Surrounded properly he can add a lot of offense. However in Montreal the expectations were that he would be dominant, which he is not. He's got two years left on not the worse deal and I believe Drouin can bounce back in an environment that has much less pressure and scrutiny from the media.

I am not sure I agree and I see where the logic is for Drouin to Seattle.
Let me just say, I am a Montreal Fan and I have been frustrated with Drouin. That being said, I believe he has value as a complimentary offensive piece in a top 6. He puts up numbers and has strong playmaking skills. However in Montreal the expectations were that he would be dominant, which he is not. I could see Seattle "taking a chance" on him as Vegas did with Perron and Neal. Seattle is going to need players and they could do a lot worse than Drouin in my opinion. He's got two years left on not the worse deal out there, I could see scenario where he flourishes in Seattle or a similar less intense market/fanbase. I actually think Habs could get a better return somewhere else for a player that equally could use a fresh start or an offensive needy team.
Hope this is the explanation you were looking for.

I like the addition of Butcher and Kuznetzov, but I am not sure I would keep both Danault and KK if we bring him in. I think you need to pick one and go with that combination as your top 3 centers. The leftover cap space (Danault) or value (KK) can be used to get a skilled left winger.
Also you need a bit of breathing room on the cap and don't agree with Anderson on fourth line...

Cap space allows to go to 8.5 M, which I think I would do. Any higher though and I just don't think a deal could be reached. With new limited cap space, I think somewhere in the 7.5 to 8.5 is fair. If Landeskog doesn't want to leave Colorado nothing else can be done.

Good to know! I guess the deal doesn't make sense then. I would like to give Drouin a fresh start somewhere in a less intense market and somehow get a puck moving defenseman back. For sure Caufield would be untouchable imo, but it would be cool to unite the Fleury bros. Maybe something could be worked out there for Steel, Jones or Volkov with Habs adding.

Fair, it might take more to take on Price's contract. My thought was they do need a starting goalie and while he isn't the player he used to be he can still perform at a high level and would be the best goalie Seattle would have an opportunity to get. Perhaps Byron's contract needs to be taken out to make it happen and at that point we would not sign Schwartz on the one year prove it deal.

Habs next year
I really don't think Danault will accept that contract. Didn't he already refuse 25 million over 5 years? I think it will need to be a lot closer to that. I really like the idea of bringing in Landeskog, but I don't think the Avs will let him go. He's the captain and too valuable. Petry plays RD, not LD and I also agree that Hamilton will get 8.5 similar to Pietro. I like the ideas, I just don't think it is realistic.

I wish Poehling wasn't hurt and we could have brought him up to play 3C with Evans and Armia. I think he would have added something positive to the team now after the success and confidence he has gained in Laval all year. Really unfortunate timing of that injury... I hope to see him up with the team next year.

His production hasn't decreased he was still on pace to eclipse 40 points this year just he has passed more this year than in typical years.
2. Skinner has wayyy less value than Weber even with how poorly Weber has played. I am not a Weber fan either, but at least Weber is still serviceable in the bottom 4. Skinner is bad at everything except scoring and we have our sniper now at 10 times Lee's the cost. Montreal passes.</div></div>
I totally understand your point of view on Drouin and I am not as down on him as the majority of the fanbase seems to be right now. That being said though, I believe playing in Montreal is affecting him negatively because of his style of play and the repercussions that has with media and fans. Drouin is a valuable player with skill, but I don't think Montreal atmosphere is where he is happiest and playing at his best. I think a change of scenery would benefit him greatly.
I also understand your point on Skinner being less valuable than Weber and being on a worse contract. But I think adding Risto and Skinner gives us more speed which we seem to have lost this year. And most importantly, speed on the defensive side. Risto can bring the play out of the defensive zone and add offense, I am not sure anyone besides for Petry can do that on rosters right now (possibly Romanov but it's a lot to ask of him at this time).

I remember before the season started some habs fans said he was still a top 10D in the NHL (laughable I know), but now it seems like In all trades he’s a massive cap dump</div></div>
He's gotten so slow that it's extremely noticeable. He still has a huge shoot, is a great leader and locker room guy I am sure, but he can't do top minutes anymore. I find his play drastically decreased this year and it could be due to the amount of games we are playing over a more condensed schedule which doesn't help. But I am concerned about his long-term viability. The defense as a whole looks slow, so ideally I would remove him and bring in some speed and offensive skill to the backend. That's why I wanted Risto, plus Drouin needs a fresh start in a smaller market.
Thanks!

Ya for sure, I too don't like the contract but no trade will be perfect for Habs, you need to give something up. I am not sure I share your optimism of Weber retiring soon, and even if he does we will still have some of that contract on our cap. It's far from ideal.

If adding in Serron Noel, was too much, I would still look at it from a Habs view. I just like the player and wanted to add him in as a possible bonus, that I thought wasn't too much in the deal.

HABS rooster and lineup 20-21
I like most of this a lot but I think for my preferred lineup I would make the following changes:
- Anderson on 2nd line RW
- Toffoli on 3rd line LW
- Armia on 3rd line RW
- Byron on 4th line RW
I would like to see KK have a guy like Toffoli that can really score. I feel like this gives a bit more balance throughout the first three lines.
I would also like to see Armia on the PP. I think his size, skill and down low puck handling are useful on PP. Not sure, who to take out though... Maybe one of the Dmen, not sure.

Fair enough. I thought Habs had more defensive prospects than offensive and LA the opposite so a swap would help even out both teams. I agree with Madden > Brook that's why I added Byron in because imo Byron > Amadio. I thought Byron would be useful in the bottom 6 and add some good speed to LA. Since Kings have plenty of cap space with everyone signed, I thought it would help both teams and Mtl gets a bit of cap relief/flexibility.

I would have to disagree with you there. I think Veleno and Poehling are the best pieces here. I believe Poehling is closer to being an NHL regular at this time and he was drafted higher than Veleno. As they are both so young, it's hard to predict who will have a better career at this time. I also think Byron has more value than Erne and that's why I thought the pick was merited for compensation.
Anyways thanks for your input and point of view.
