Just pick a team that has 3 retention slots available and probably won't use them. Montreal would do it, but you'd have to wait until the final minutes to see if they even have a spot left to use.

You realize Lafreniere was a Q prospect, right?
1st, decent prospect, $2.5M retention, and a promising defenseman isn't bad for Laf. If you give up on a top 5 drafted player, you don't usually get top 5 value for him. 15th overall +++ is a pretty good return in that case.

I was going to say exactly what boilermaker said. Pretty close overall though. Definitely think mtl is taking the biggest risk here but they could potentially get the biggest reward if they could turn laf into what he was projected to be.

Chicago has a couple of decent college goalies that may sign this summer or next. They really need some forward prospects.

Insane 3-way trade at the TDL
I proposed a similar trade about a month ago. Basically got crushed by every team fans. https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/663108
MTL fans were angry giving Xhekaj and FLO 2023 unprotected 1st for Lafreniere, who they value close to Dach.
NYR fans are angry at every ACGM where their team is going all-in this season. They think they're ending a rebuild even with Panarin 2 years left and 31 years old Kreider.
Even CHI fans were mad getting only a 1st, even if it's a lottery pick. Personally, i'd rather have a top 15 pick than two late 1st.

They're good, not great.
Moving Hagel around shouldn't be viewed as off limits or a waste of talent. He's not a one dimensional player that must be w/ Point and Kuch to succeed.

That's if Hagel is playing in the middle 6. Kind of hard to have that unless he and Stamkos switch lines for a few shifts during a game.
Colton has left something to be desired this season, but I still have faith he'll show up big when it counts.
Cannot have Maroon as a third-liner in the playoffs either.

Firstly, I think Kuzmenko makes more sense than Horvat.
Play Kuzmenko on the top line w/ Kuch and Point and that frees up Hagel to re-form the shutdown line w/ Cirelli and Killorn.
And Stamkos (no offense to him) can do whatever he wants w/ Paul and Colton on the third.
My opinion is we need a shutdown line to win, and nothing we have now qualifies as one. Unless we plan on adding a middle-6 forward to address that, freeing up Hagel would be my choice.
As for the trade, if Schenn's market turns out weaker than anticipated, I'd try to get him here too.</div></div>

To be fair to training/medical staff, that's a little skewed with Price/Weber and Drouin/Gallagher, but it's not a good sign when the latter get back into action only to get injured again within a handful of games.
Nothing may come of it. Perhaps everyone is doing their job well and it is simply bad luck after all, but it can't hurt.
Are players being evaluated properly, are they being worked too hard, are they being cleared too quickly/easily?</div></div>
Price, Byron and Weber are definitely increasing the totals... Gallagher is what he is now.
Gallagher, Monahan, Edmundson and Drouin have earned the "injury-prone" label so I wouldn't say it's a team issue for these players.
But I do agree that Matheson, Monahan and Gally came back just for a handful of games before being sidelined again, which is weird and unnecessary given the team's place in the rankings.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>It's more likely Quick returns to form than Copley leading the team in the playoffs, Quick has had cold streaks before but he has played 92 playoff games and was solid last year. I think the Kings stay pat at goal at the deadline, they have too much money between quick and petersen to keep adding to that pile.</div></div>
It's tough for me, because what you're saying makes sense, and the Kings have enough youth to be set up well for the next few years...but I also look at the Western Conference this year and see a lot of uncertainty. The Avalanche aren't even in playoff position right now and might take the year off after winning the Cup. Every team that's currently in playoff position has some big red flags - I think LA is in a really strong position to make a run, and if I was Rob Blake I'd be super tempted to cash in some of those young forwards for a veteran or two to close any holes on my roster. Maybe it's not Varly, but I can easily see the Kings being a major player at this year's deadline.

Yeah, the deal would be completely dependent on what Copley does between now and the deadline. Personally, I hate being a wet blanket, but I just don't see him holding up through the playoffs - that shiny 12-2-0 record is built on the back of a .904 SV%, which just doesn't seem sustainable. Out of every goalie who's played as many games as Copley (14), that .904 ranks 29th in the league. He's been buoyed by the Kings scoring 52 goals in his 14 starts (3.71 GF), compared to 3.23 in their other 31 games. I think the likelihood that he turns back into a pumpkin is looking pretty strong, unfortunately - but I'd love to be proven wrong, cuz he's a great story.

-Personally don't think the Islanders as currently constructed should be sending out picks for veterans with high cap hits - as you said, the rest of the roster isn't contender-level and I don't think that adding Boeser is enough to drag them into the playoffs in the first place.
-Arizona says no; even if they don't, Varlamov and his 16-team NTC say no. You're basically giving them a more expensive rental goalie, a 1st next year, a 3rd, and a $250K obligation on top of that for an incredibly good goalie. Arizona might be taking the long way around a rebuild but Vejmelka is still young enough to be an important part of it - I don't see them moving him for anything short of an egregious overpay.
-Parise's third on the team in goals and makes the absolute league minimum. I could easily see him getting a 2nd or a 3rd & an interesting prospect at the deadline - dude plays all three phases of the game, and can slide up and down the lineup. Smart contenders love a Swiss army knife like him - he can do anything you ask him to.

They weren't "replaced" because the Lightning could just keep two of Killorn/Palat/Gourde/Cernak/Sergachev instead of having to trade them and Stamkos being placed on LTIR let them acquire Savard.
If we include Kucherov to the opening day roster:
Palat-Point-Kucherov
Killorn-Cirelli-Stamkos
Coleman-Gourde-Goodrow
Maroon-Johnson-Joseph
Hedman-Rutta
McDonagh-Cernak
Sergachev-Schenn
Foote
Vasilevskiy
McElhinney
This is a $90.03M cap 21-man roster with no extra forward. Salary cap was $81.5M that season. Kucherov being placed on LTIR was the reason they could keep at least two players so "Kucherov was replaced"
