Hard to trade for cap when you have no cap.
Kings need a goalie, but Leafs are fine with Vladar and Woll? Kings also don’t need to bail Toronto out capwise.

Quite curious as to where the ~6M required to facilitate that trade from LA’s end is coming from.

I might just be higher on him than most, but I feel people are sleeping on Reinbacher’s ceiling. Granted, Hughes’ comments weren’t that reassuring.

We’re signing David.
All in all I don’t fully understand all the frustration with the pick. I think he’s going to be a fine player when all said and done.

He would yes, but I don’t think any GMs are going to be leaping out of their seats to claim him. The whole point of signing him is to tandem with Portillo in Ontario.
Ideally they would have kept both on the roster, but Englund likely means one starts in Ontario. Barring an elite camp from Clarke I think they’ll give the 3RD to Spence. He’s definitely earned it.

Clarke and Rittich will be gone to Ontario. I imagine Grundstrom and Lizotte are traded to get the roster to 22-23.

Certainly true. Hopefully Treliving can pick up those relations where Dubas left off.
Could definitely see something like that if Blake opts to move Arvidsson, and the pricier options price themselves out.

Kings will sign two goalies, one to back up Portillo in Ontario, and one to back up Copley.</div></div>
Price point is an issue yeah. Being reunited with his old goalie coach could possibly get him to come down, one would hope.
Ukko Pekka-Luukkonen is another guy I’ve thought the Kings could take a flyer on. Doesn’t exactly fit the experience criteria, but it’s a big body for Buckley to work with and could potentially become more than just a stop gap.
Lyon is the guy I’d want in Ontario.

Is it bad I’m hoping Toronto buys out Murray? Blake’s comments today don’t exactly leave them with a ton of viable options to slot in beside Copley.
Thompson would be awesome, but I’m not prepared to move mountains to get him moved inter-division.

What I Wish Had Happened
Definitely wish the Kings had gone for McCabe last year. Would’ve eased issues on the left side for a few years now.
I’ve grown convinced that Vilardi wasn’t going to sign a bridge deal. There was no movement on an extension for the entire offseason, which makes be believe he was going to want out if we didn’t end up trading him.
He’s since talked about his discontent with the market here with Jets reporters, so I think the writing was possibly on the wall that Blake had to move him. But I guess that’s all just speculation for now.
I’m willing to give Dubois a chance though, at least for now. What’s done is done, and there’s no point in sitting and dwelling on it. I’m sure there’s a plan in place. Can’t imagine Blake is putting the phone away for the summer.
Could be worse. Lombardi likely would have traded him for a pending UFA and really screwed us.

See, I like Kampf and the game he plays. I’m glad the Leafs are able to hold onto him for a reasonable term. That said, he isn’t irreplaceable to the point of paying him that AAV. You can find 1Bs to Kampf’s 1A for a lot less in my opinion.
But of course, it’s hard to judge this deal until we see how it rubs with the rest of the roster.

He’s looked much better on the wing than he was at C, so he’ll likely stay there for the time being, at least until Kopi retires.

I think Blake is going to end up trying to coax Jarry into a cheap 1-2 year deal to regain form under Buckley. Can’t see them being able to afford much else at G.

(WPG/LAK) - Dubois for Iafallo, Kupari, Vilardi, 2024 2nd (MTL)
All in all, high risk trade for Rob Blake and the Kings.
Dubois still has the tools to become an elite player in the league, but he hasn’t exactly shown that as of late, and his new contract puts plenty of constraints on building a competitor this season.
Vilardi seems to have turned the corner, but evidently his long term health is still a touchy subject. Based on this season I’d rather have him, but who knows how much of a step back/forward either player takes going forward.
Iafallo, Kupari and a 2nd is an unholy overpayment on top.

Kind of seems odd the Avs would be taking away from a position of weakness, but Sakic and MacFarland obviously have something cooking.

Mitchell played under Montgomery at Denver, so I’m curious to see how that plays out.
Hall is going to put up 60 points with Bedard and then get flipped for a 1st at the deadline. Hawks keep winning.

Kings will be getting at least 5 years on that contract if it happens, but don’t hold your breath. The only person unrelated to the Jets that has said it’s close is Pagnotta, who also said Chychrun to LA was a done deal at the deadline last year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aebexz</b></div><div>Retooling. It’s a great move and gives room for their younger and better players to get ice time. Nashville is building for a great future</div></div>
I have no doubts Trotz is going to take them down the right path, given everything he’s said thus far. This just seems like a 180 from the potential fire sale they had at last deadline. You don’t listen on Saros if you’re attempting a retool.
Still, I’m excited to see the next domino that falls for Nashville after this. Obviously there’s a reason Trotz felt the need to clear that much cap irregardless of return.
