<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>eating patch's salary? he is a 30 goal scorer at 4.5M...

-&gt; Florida will have 20M in cap space ... and Matheson is signed to a 5M extension -&gt; So money is definitely not the problem.

-&gt; We still give two 2nd round picks and Reilly (who has the same amount of points than Matheson.

this trade has a positive impact right away for florida</div></div>

Maybe I wasn't clear about a few things.

I agree with you that this deal would have a positive impact on the Panthers' lineup right away, but only on the offense. I think we can agree that even if Reilly is playing about the same average ice time compared to Matheson (21 min), it's only because he has some kind of chemistry with the best defensemen left (Petry) on a really bad team. I don't know where you saw that they have the same amount of points, but according to HockeyDB, Matheson has more points this season alone then Reilly over his carrer in the NHL. So they would need another LHD to fill the 2nd spot, but they have no other player coming up in the farm exept maybe Max Gildon who is their last year 3rd round pick, so he's still too youg for the NHL level.

Second, what I meant by money being a problem is not about the cap, it's about the ownership. 3-4 years ago, Doug Cifu said that his team was losing money with a really bad attendance rate of 14,177 in average. During last season, it was only at 14,620 so we can assume that the money issue is still there. That's why Borgstrom has an incredible value for that kind of team considering he signs his 3 year ELC while being nhl-ready.

Third, I get that 30 goal Patches is a bargain right now, but wait until he asks an extension at aroud 7-8M AAV in only one year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs4ever</b></div><div>I see your logic and thought process. I worked with Jonathan when he was in Halifax. He put way too much pressure on himself, being a local guy, donating money right out of the gate. He wanted to do so well but he is still only 22. Once he took the pressure off of himself and just played hockey he was much better. Not sure about last night's stats but the previous 10 games he was winning face offs at 62%, which is amazing. He should settle into a good 2nd line C.

As for A. Shaw, he is 175 soaking wet but plays the game as though he was 220. That works in Junior but not in NHL. Marchand had to change his game and as much as I dislike him, he has turned into a very good player. Shaw has had a plethora of injuries and his game is only going to go south. I would do everything in my power to move him. After this season, he has 3 more yrs at $3.9 M. You can move him on a package deal, add a player or two, or trade him for a 5th round. If MTL wants a higher draft pick like a 2nd, then it will need to eat some salary, say $1 M for next 3 yrs.

Also, Scherbak is not a 4th line player. He has the skill set of a 2nd line winger. Unfortunately his game is not consistent yet, once it is and he performs regularly he will force MTL's hand and have him move up. I hope he can turn into a consistent player because he does have some skills and from time to time, we see flashes of it.</div></div>

Yeah I get that for Shaw. I'm quite scared for the future about him and MB probably shares our concerns. But what would you do with that free RW spot if MB manages to trade him?
