And just like that, the Blues won this trade. God these comments aged well, huh?

Florida Panthers signed Troy Brouwer (1 Year / $850,000 AAV)
I am obligated to call this good for 2 reasons.
1: It's near the minimum salary. There's not much risk here.
2: THAT ONE GOAL AGAINST THE BLACKHAWKS IN GAME 7 OF THE FIRST ROUND IN 2016. (Bias is big here, I know.)

Ottawa Senators signed Mark Stone (1 Year / $7,350,000 AAV)
I gave the Rangers flak for overpaying players, but Ottawa takes the damn cake with this and Cody Ceci. Also add Stone to the list of big name UFAs next year.
I genuinely feel sorry for Sens fans. At least other bad teams are trying to rebuild. Ottawa simply isn't.

Washington Capitals signed Tom Wilson (6 Years / $5,166,667 AAV)
Brayden Schenn is getting paid less. Yes, Schenn <em>did</em> play 4 more games than Wilson last season, <strong>but he still had twice as many points</strong>.
Not counting Wilson's honestly impressive playoff performance here, BTW. Just the regular season.

Wow. I am...speechless. This is up there with the worst signings of the off-season (Jack Johnson, Antoine Roussel, Jay Beagle, Ian Cole, Leo Komarov, Ryan McDonagh, and [even though this hurts as a Blues fan] Ryan Reaves).
Seriously though. <em><strong>WOW.</strong></em>

Thread:
(CHI / ARI) - Krüger, Entwistle, Maletta, Campbell for Hossa, Hinostroza, Oesterle
One thing that hasn't been discussed, the (unlikely) scenario where Hossa retires before his contract is done. If he does, then Chicago is hit by (if my math is correct) an $8m cap recapture penalty. And because he was traded, that amount is static until his contract term is done. Arizona can take the recapture penalty, the Hawks cannot. There is simply no room if Bowman signs anyone else (which is seeming less and less likely with each passing day).
Now, bear in mind that this is very unlikely, as everyone benefits if Hossa doesn't retire. The Yotes hit the salary floor, Hossa gets paid, and the Hawks get cap relief. Everyone wins...except Blackhawks fans.
You lost this trade. Giving up Hinestroza (an NHL caliber player with a point every other game last season) and Oesterle (a great defensive prospect who looks to make an impact within a few years) <em>and</em> a 3rd round pick for Kruger (a fourth-line center that you gave up last year for free) Entwistle (an unsigned AHL level player), Maletta (a decent prospect), Campbell (a 30-year-old who has less than 40 NHL games played and seems likely to only be called up in emergencies) and a 5th round pick? Doesn't look like Bowman won the trade. Is he trying to get fired? Because all of his moves this offseason could only be made by a GM that hates his job.
But I have no sympathies for you Hawks fans. After all, I bleed blue. So instead of being angry at Bowman, I'm laughing. Because this is <strong>HILARIOUS.</strong>

(BUF / STL) - Thompson, Berglund, Sobotka for O'Reilly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drewjenks</b></div><div><strong>"They get a top-3 two-way center in the league"</strong>
.........
<strong>"Top-3 means - plays on the 1st line".</strong>
He wen't from being a top 3 two-way center in the NHL to being a 1st line center. That's called changing your story.
Neither of which is true anyways - he's a 2nd line center.</div></div>
No, it isn't. It's usage of hockey terminology, similar to other terms like "bottom-6."
Also I could see O'Reilly playing on the first line, most likely with a line of Schwartz/Fabbri-O'Reilly-Tarasenko. I think Army will want to keep the current first line and play O'Reilly as the 2nd line center with Fabbri and Perron on the wings, though.

How? I just said there are no "losers" in this trade, but the Blues will likely benefit more from O'Reilly than the Sabres will from Thompson and the two picks. The Blues technically "won" but everyone got what they wanted.

If I say Crosby, Bergeron, Kopitar, Tavares, Scheifele, Getzlaf, Coutourier.....are you going to tell me O'Rielly has a better overall game than all but 2 of them......?</div></div>
Top-3 means "plays on the 1st line".
Anyhow, the Blues win, but Buffalo gets a good prospect and two picks. Not a bad haul, even if they took on two awful contracts. O'Reilly bolsters the power play and is a big net-front presence. Neither team really "lost" here.

AAV is a bit steep, but the term is good. Should strengthen the 3rd line more than Berglund did. An OK deal.

Most likely the same one who voted "NO" on Pat Maroon's deal. (I'm a Blues fan BTW)
