Early look at next year
Nashville declines. I highly doubt we’re in the market for a guy like Trouba. I’m not willing to spend 30+m on a defense that would be well below average.

He'll be 38 before that contract ends though. Even at $5M, that contract's riskier than asking Doug Gilmour to drive the babysitter home.

I know he shoots left, but I thought Brodie only wants to play RD.
Regardless, he's older, more expensive, and has less team control than Lauzon. He's not a difference maker for NSH. Lauzon holds more value for NSH, long term.

Canucks fans on this site are so difficult to talk to. Will try and dump players like Garland on us for one of Carrier or Fabbro, but the second I suggest that a 25 year old RFA defenseman who can log top 4 minutes is worth a mid 2nd they lose their minds.
We got a 2nd for players like Granlund and an entire draft class for Tanner Jeannot, but let's flip the thread upside down because I said Fabbro could net us a 2025 second lmfao.

Those just started. The Fabbro to Van trades have been going on for YEARS. I wouldn't mind sending him there if it's for a pick, not a cap dump

For the record, I'm starting the think Colton will win the 2C job over RyJo in camp. We needed a guy, and we got a guy, but I don't think he's gonna put up more than 10 and 20 this year.

Teams arent scoffing at the Helle return, fans are. And that’s likely because Helle is an expiring UFA and is reportedly asking for 8-9m+ on his next contract. He shot himself and Winnipeg in the foot with that one.
Saros has two seasons left, and is arguably better than Hellebuyck. He also didn’t say anything (yet, at least) about wanting a massive paycheque for his next deal. This package is meh. Berggren is the only really exciting piece coming back. The 2026 first is irrelevant to our needs as it’s 3 draft classes away, Veleno is a 4C and Buium isn’t great, but he’s fine I guess. I don’t hold Husso having a lot of value here because he needs to come back to make it work and we’re essentially just downgrading between the pipes.
Stevie Y isn’t going to move the pieces Nashville would want in return for Saros. But, Rob Blake <em>almost</em>
did. This doesn’t work for either team.

Bergren is a fine piece coming back but the rest is meh? Yeah we’re getting a first, but it’s a first in 2026. The player we draft with that wouldn’t be playing with us until 2027 or 2028.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>I'd rather have Nashville's top prospect tbh</div></div>
Pesce isn't someone who's going to bring back Askarov.
An extended Aho is the only player on CAR it would make sense for NSH to trade Askarov for (obviously as part of a package).
Even Pesce for just picks seems unlikely, with the glut of defensemen NSH would be left with. Pesce as an upgrade for NSH's blueline, with a Fabbro or Carrier plus other pieces going the other way? Sure. NSH just adding Pesce to their blueline without subtracting anyone doesn't compute.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanrushton</b></div><div>It's a goalie prospect... which are much more of a risk than skaters and Pesce has the analytics of a first-pairing defenseman</div></div>
Yeah he's a #2 defenseman, that's a first pairing guy on most teams (NSH included). That's different from a #1, which he would not be on NSH (he wouldn't even be their #2, if they still had Ekholm, but I digress).
Unless it's for a true #1 center (ie Aho), or a prospect with that potential (the only reason NSH was rumoured to be dangling Askarov at the draft), they have no reason to move Asky.

They are not even adding to their forward group making this trade so how do they get better. Toronto on the other hand gets a goalie that steals games and would give them the edge in a playoff series</div></div>
I wouldn’t even call Nylander an upgrade. Forsberg is only about 2 years older, and has historically had better production than Nylander. Word is that Nylander wants 10m, which makes him even less appealing compared to Forsberg

Pesce
Pesce is a solid defenseman, but he doesn't bring a 1st++ value to NSH. If the Leafs can find a place to dump Barrie, maybe a three way deal with TOR? NSH gets Nylander, TOR gets Pesce and one of Carrier/Fabbro, CAR gets the other NSH dman and the 1st? Minor adjustments as needed.

I dont really get Trotz vision
The Preds are gonna be the most mid team in the NHL. They will win games and stay somewhat competitive, but highly unlikely they make playoffs. They should have kept Johansen and Duchene until the cap went up and then actually try trading them for a return. As it stands they lost two 40+ point players and got literally nothing.
