TDL moves 3
Don’t see why the Oilers do this. If they are replacing a LD to save cap space it would be replacing Kulak and they are likely just going to bring up Broberg, Niemelainen, Gleason, or Dineen. If they are replacing a RD they are probably sending Ceci somewhere and need a second pairing minutes guy. I guess what I am saying is that De Hann just doesn’t fit the Oilers needs right now.

The oilers don’t need more offensive D and they do need inexpensive middle 6 forwards so to get rid of Holloway would be silly. We haven’t really been able to see Holloway’s full upside. Last year in the few games before he got injured when he played with McDavid he looked like a potentially a top 6 winger. I don’t know if he will become a top 6 winger but to trade him away while he is still on his ELC for another offensive defenceman would be silly.

I honestly don’t see why the oilers would do this there are unsigned UFA’s with similar numbers to Evan’s that they could likely sign for less and not give up a pick.

Honestly seems pretty likely though I think there will be some PTO’s coming into camp fighting for that 4c position against Lane Pederson. However with him already signed for 2 years it seems like his spot to lose.

I agree that TK is better than Brown but cap space is really tight and they can’t fit TK in

The Oilers already made their shot for a right wing for their top 6 it doesn’t make any sense for them to give their top young defenceman and their top prospect as well as multiple picks for a player that they already filled the role he would play.

Based on RyJo move
The Oilers can’t afford to retain on Ceci’s contract it would cost them less to buy him out. Also they don’t need another left shot D man they have Nurse, Elkholm, Kulak, Broberg, and Neimelainen to sign another 2.5-5M left shot D would be silly

Next Year V2
As much as the oilers would love Ullmark they can’t afford to take the extra cap hit with trading Skinner so I can’t see that working out.

Next year with PLD
The Oilers decline they don’t need a veteran left wing on a team that has more left wings than spots and Yamamoto when healthy is in their top 6 on the right wing which they actually need.

Oilers say no they picked up Elkholm making their LD strong no reason to take on 3.5M for another LD especially if they give up a 1st for it.

Next Steps Before Tread Deadline
Why on earth would Edmonton do that. We don’t need to get rid of Klefbom his contract is up at the end of the year and we are already using LTIR so no worries there. Holloway is slowly maturing into a talented forward there is still a lot of hope there plus next years first round pick. Finally why would we want a 5.5M cap hit for a player with 7 points in 20 games this year. This may be one of the worst trades I have seen proposed.

Next season
Barrie isn’t going to be given away in a trade and the oilers certainly aren’t paying to get rid of him. Over the last 8 years he has been over a 40 point a year player on average with multiple years above 50 points. He may not be the greatest defensively however he has taken strides to be better in his own zone and is better than he used to be.

I seriously doubt that Holloway starts on the second line I think you are more likely to see RNH there and then run 11/7 than that.

You managed to be under cap however that fourth line is painful to look at I also doubt that McLeod signs for under a million.

If you move smith to LTIR like expected we could actually run a 22 man roster with this however I’m not sure that trade is enough for Arizona to move him especially if you want a second round pick back.

A couple things.
1. Dallas can’t afford that unless they lose either Oettinger or Robertson.
2.your lines are a mess. There is no way that is what they run with.

Oilers going for Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>The revenue a team makes as a result of winning the cup is enormous and the owners are generally in it to make money that is why it's not uncommon for a team to go all-in for a cup run. Fans usually don't like it when a team gives up a lot of futures for a run, Hawks did multiple times but in the end it worked out. Tampa has done it as well. At the end of the day, Holloway is a good prospect but he's not a elite prospect, meaning the teams success in the future isn't predicated on him. In other words, if given the option A) win a cup and lose Holloway in the process or B) don't win a cup but keep Holloway for the future, about every owner will go with option A.</div></div>
It has been edited since my comment to be a lot more reasonable. I don’t remember exactly what it was but it definitely was more than this.

The oilers are weak on right wing and could use a player to replace Barrie on right D to trade for a left wing (of which we have too many) and a left D which we also are quite strong on and have multiple prospects who are either NHL ready or almost there is not smart.

Oilers going for Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Depends if it means a cup. Kane is arguably the best right winger in the game and if the team at the TDL looks that strong without Kane, adding Kane means a really good chance for a cup. That said, I don't see it being the case, but a late 1st and a prospect like Holloway is about what it would likely take per reports out of Chicago.</div></div>
As a Chicago fan it makes sense. For the Oilers it doesn’t. We have multiple years of McDavid and will want to keep him and Draisaitl when their contracts end in 3/4 years and if we throw away our futures for a single possible win on a position that isn’t our biggest question mark makes it less likely we manage to keep both of them later.
