(BUF/CGY) - 2020 4th round pick (SJS) for Frolík
This trade frees up cap space for Calgary and moves a surplus defenseman for Buffalo in exchange for a useful forward. Meanwhile, Montreal gets a little depth in their softest area. In my opinion, an extremely rare example of a three-way trade that is good for all three teams.

Weren't you the guy who said Sakic got fleeced with the Barrie trade lol. Hall is very overrated. Shero got a solid return for him.

Not gonna lie this is way more than i thought it would be. Its definitely a quantity over quality deal though.
Good trade for both teams IMO.

who was going to give them more. No one.
You could see that a mile away. 1st and a prospect was basically the ceiling on this and they got that. If he resigns they get more, but we have to wait and see how that goes.

Not a lot of teams are willing to offer 2 potential 1st round picks and 3 B prospects for a 6 month rental

It's way to early to say anyone actually "won" this.
Honestly, I look at this trade and it boils down to a 1st and a possible 2nd. Maybe Hall resigns, who knows I doubt it.
The rest in there is basically AHL level and probably not going to play in the NHL. Maybe Bahl makes the jump but his ceiling is limited.
Hall on the other hand has to actually do something. If he plays for AZ like he did in NJ, AZ got took.
If they cant win a playoff round, than AZ got took.
In general I think most put him at a 1st and a B level prospect. I think they got that. It's fair.
But who wins this won't be known till later.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>yup. and that is only marginally more than Grabner got. They needed to get quality, even if it was a 1st and one quality guy (high end/1st round prospect) and they didn't.</div></div>
All I heard was "I'm drastically overrating Hall's value because I don't have a grasp on the New Jersey Devils' situation with Hall"
He's not playing out of his mind this year and they lost leverage as SOON as it became clear that they HAD to trade him. This is a very solid return for a player who has a bad reputation when it comes to teams he's on (Duchene stuff) and who HAD to be traded.

How is this even remotely close to the grabner deal? I don't see any resemblance

Oh yeah, because 4 AHL players and an AHL goalie is comparable to at all to a first and a third at the LEAST, two solid future prospects and a wild-card in Schnarr.

A very solid C prospect, two other solid prospects and potentially 2 firsts for a rental to Arizona.
I think it's fair. Shero didn't get "fleeced", and the Grabner trade was NOT comparable to this at all (*ahem*)

I hate the Devils more than any other team but even I wouldn't say they lost this trade. Seems like wherever Hall was going to end up, people were going to bash the Devils for their return. In all honestly, he isn't worth the moon, so I don't know why people were expecting that. Bahl and Merkley are really good prospects, and they got two picks out of it too. Giving up Speers was... weird... but aside from that, this really isn't a bad return for an overrated, polarizing, unproven (in playoffs) 28 year-old winger who was never going to sign in NJ anyway. I'm with you on this one, Devils fans (never thought I'd say that). Hockey world overreacting. Let's see what Hall can do in the playoffs before we call this a win for Arizona.

How is Rykov + 2nd anywhere near a similar return? To start there is a 1st, with another conditional 1st/2nd/3rd. Those picks alone outvalue the grabner "package". Then you add Merkley and Bahl.
Sure its not a fantastic deal for the Devils but when was the last time you saw a high quality prospect moved for a rental?

Not a ton to get for such a good player, but as a rental of a guy they weren't going to be able to re-sign, it's a decent return. Fair trade.

The New KHL
The Swedish Hockey Association does not want any of its teams in the KHL. The KHL wanted to get AIK Stockholm and Malmo Red Hawks but failed, and there were rumored attempts to start a team called the Crowns that splits home games in Stockholm and Malmö.
One of the biggest issues I keep reading about with KHL is the expenses and long travel. That Is why teams like Slovan Bratislava, Lev Praha, and Medvesack Zagreb left. I personally would’ve loved to see a “European Hockey League” that’s not the champions league set up like the NHL. Also would’ve loved to see the same on Far East, starting with Amur, Admiral, and Kunlun, with Expansion in Japan and South Korea. The Asia League Ice Hockey could’ve been absorbed and transformed into a top minor or junior league for Eastern Russian and Asian hockey players.
The KHL spans almost 6,200mi (10,000km) and the travel can hurt the on-Ice product.
