Much better depth

The NHL should consider giving them some kind of cap relief, but idk how. Team can't even do a full rebuild for 3 or 4 years with all those contracts. Sending my deepest condolences bro</div></div>
Tell me about it.. the only three guys who are worth their contracts are Couture, Meier & Hertl
Kane is 2-3M overpaid.. EK is 3-4M overpaid, Vlasic 4M+ overpaid and Burns was worth his $$ value 3 years ago but now is just getting older and going downhill. It sucks but Buying Vlasic and Jones out can free up enough cap to try and make this team better on paper at least. Just a matter of coaching change and new system.

I’m sure they would. Chicago may even have to add in a draft pick into this maybe or wash the Sharks 4th rounder. Idk.

Complete tear down rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ZiggyPalffy</b></div><div>One problem, none of those guys can be traded...
No one wants Kane.
No one wants Karlsson.
Vlasic is more likely to be a 7x5 buyout than traded.
Jones can't be traded unless you pay at least a 2nd and retain half and even then probably not.
This team is stuck with those contracts, the last thing they should do is rebuild, that would be the ugliest fee build the NHL has ever seen.
Let Seattle take Burns, buyout Vlasic, get rid of Jones somehow, sign Ullmark and Halak, stop resigning Marleau, and try to fill vacant roster spots with younger faster quality players via call up, trade, or free agency.
Kane Couture Lablanc
Meier Hertl Palmieri?
Donato ? Leonard
Nieto Gregor True
Simek Karlsson
Ferraro ?
Knyzhov ?
Ullmark
Halak
Make sure both the other RD's are good defensively and can kill penalties. Karlsson is washed up defensively and never was very good in that area. Don't use him on the PK unless someone's injured.
I would trade Merkley for a young defensive or two way RD. The last thing the sharks need is another offensive defenseman especially on the right side.</div></div>
Agree mostly with what you’re saying. I just wish Wilson gets booted after this year. Sharks management needs a tear down also. I think Kane would fetch a 2nd or 3rd from a team that wants a power forward who puts up ~25 goals per. I know he’s got attitude issues but If the coach in there can handle that I think he’s an asset on any team who wants him

Jones, on the other hand, we would not. Our goal tending has been great, no need to acquire Jones.</div></div>
Either way, Jones will be bought out or traded... and the Wild were really the only team that had some cap space as well as a void in net.. his contracts not great but 3 years left after this year isn't the worst for a 3rd rounder

Trust me I know. But if the Sharks retain 2-3M off I think teams would become interested because he is that stay at home defenseman who’s consistent and in the lineup every night.

He’d be “fine” at 9M AAV but not at his 11.5M.. he’s way expensive and they need shutdown D men not two Offensive D men. With that extra 2.5M space + 3M in cap space that’s another top 6 forward $ they could sign or trade for down the road!

OTT can have him back guy is a joke
Sharks just need to restart regardless. Keep Couture, Burns, Hertl, Meier. Trade- Karlsson, Vlasic, Kane, Labanc and Jones or buy him out. Start over completely. The Karlsson trade was pitiful because we bought him as a rental for WAY too much assets and that 1st rounder turned into a top 3 pick in Stutzle. Sharks could have been patient and just signed Karlsson the following season as a UFA if they felt the could’ve gotten him. Regardless I wouldn't have. You don’t need two Offensive D man- Burnzie is enough on the back end. I just wish Tavares would’ve chosen SJ over Toronto 2 years ago during free agency because I feel like Sharks would have a completely different team and much better all around.

Love me that team though!</div></div>
I just can’t see a guy like Duclair making more than 1.5-2M in a flat cap year.. especially someone who’s so offensive he’s a defensive liability. On the other hand , Hamonic has been on the decline the last 3-4 years but he’s still young enough at just turning 30 that he can hopefully turn it around and bet on himself. Sometimes guys just need a new look and some fresh teammates. With him I really don’t think he’ll be making more than 3M this upcoming season. A similar guy for reference as far as point production and play style is a Radko Gudas who just signed a 2.5M AAV this off season

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldmanWebber</b></div><div>I agree that having 13M+ in goalies is not ideal. But the problem is not with Allen's 2.8. With Price making 10.5M you are always going to have too much tied up in goalies. Unfortunately that is where Montreal find themselves.</div></div>
It’s one thing to pay an elite goalie what he deserves.. even if it’s 1-2M overpayment than it is to overpay a mediocre, inconsistent, “backup” who is about to go downhill fast. Bad cap management all around. Prime example of why MTL will not be cup contenders or a top 5 team for the next decade minimum. Sad such a storied franchise is being run into the ground by an incompetent no neck. You know that guy who sold arguably his best player for an injury prone 3rd liner and paid him more than what he would’ve paid his best player.. Domi/Anderson trade.

Montreal Canadiens signed Jake Allen (2 Years / $2,875,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Danny12357</b></div><div>I really dislike the Jake Allen trade, giving up an asset in a cap dump for a goalie who is considerably overpaid didn't seem like a good move given the goalies available this summer.
But the trade is done, the signing is fine. Jake Allen hasn't been a very good goalie, but he did have a good year last year in a reduced role, so making $2.8M seems like an OK fit. I know it's a lot to add to Price's contract, but that contract is bad on it's own, you don't make things worse by not getting an decent back up if that's what's needed. Also, Montreal needs to expose a goalie, so they can now expose Allen as he will meet the criteria. So overall, it's fine.
I hate what Bergevin has done this summer in terms of strategy, but I wouldn't let that paint my view of each move as if they are all automatically bad. Bergevin is a weird GM, he has made some of the best, and worst trades and signings I have seen in the last 3-5 years. I never know what to expect.</div></div>
The part that doesn’t do it for me is he’s set to make 4.3M this upcoming season from his previous contract and then 2.8M for two more years. Not quite sure why MTL would want to keep him on the books for two extra years. I could see the re-signing for 1 but not 2 plus when you have other guys you’re trying to keep and sign. Having 13M+ tied up in two goalies isn’t great cap management. Seattle expansion draft is next summer ...

Put it this way.. 1.5-2M gives a team some good wiggle room especially when trying to add potential pieces at the deadline for a playoff run. MTL just eliminated extra cap room by overpaying a back up. Proof that depth and winning doesn’t matter to them.
