How Can We Keep Kane
Or how about the rangers use him as a mercenary, and move on and give a chance to one of their many young cheap players. The rangers have always had a problem mis-developing youth because they sign over the hump stars and give them valuable playing time. Where is Othman supposed to play? Are kakko and Lafreniere 3rd line forwards for now on? It'd be smarter to use that 5 million and give a long term deal to a guy like chytil or miller instead of bridging him. Look at the Bruins, they're dominating because they gave opportunity to their youth and then locked them up at affordable rates before they hit UFA. Same with Colorado.

Kane To NY
Not happening. Rangers dont have the cap space this year. Notice the column that says "roster": its how many players are on the roster in this simulation. So the rangers would have $1 million to fill 4+ roster spaces: 4C, LD3, 7D, 13F. In case it was obvious- that is not possible.

wtf is that Sabres trade. Neither team does this bc it makes no sense. Ostlund could be the next Wayne Gretzky, or the next Alex Nylander. But the Rangers are the one adding?? For the 14th overall pick from last week? Rangers could've traded Zac Jones/Nils Lundkvist and a 4th Rder and gotten the 13th overall to pick Ostlund and held onto Kakko if they wanted him so bad. Sabres wouldn't entertain it bc no team trades players a week after drafting them.

Chicago Fire Sale
Kane aint getting that kind of return, (and rangers dont have the cap space for him now anyway). Hawks put a value on Kakko when they put a value on Kirby Dach last week: a 1st and 2nd rd pick. Dach was picked #3 after Kakko. Dach has 59 pts in 152 career games, Kakko has 58 pts in 159 games. Both have risk attached bc they have dealt with injuries and not scored at the level expected. Kakko is worth at least a top-15 pick, which means Kane is getting 2 more first rd picks than Alex DeBrincat, who is younger and better and comes with RFA rights.
Kane gets a 1st and a 2nd. Maybe throw in a mid level prospect.

what I would do
As a fan of neither team involved in the trade, the Sharks trade aint bad bc that Vlasic contract is like HIV. Only hang up I would say is San Jose still doesnt project to be very good, and even if the Pacific is weak again, not having their 1st rd pick could be a valuable pick in a weak draft.

NYR Cup Champs 2023
Hawks put a value on Kakko last week. Its at least a 1st rd pick, since Dach was taken the spot after Kakko, and the 2 have almost the same number of points in the same number of games. Dach was worth a 1st and a 2nd. Hawks also put a price tag on PPG wingers making $6ish million when they traded DeBrinecat for a 1st 2nd and 3rd. The hawks retaining 50% of Kane's salary is bc his cap hit is awful and they need to hit the cap floor, but it brings it around what DeBrincat's is. So the price for Kane at 50% retained should be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd max.
And you want to give the equivalent to 3+ firsts for him? Also, why the hell would the rangers want to resign him? He's old, they have 18 million winger prospects, and they have no cap space. Cap isnt going to move much and they'll need to resign chytil, Miller, and Lafreniere.

Bad Kane trade. Thats equivalent to 3 1st rd picks for Kane, when Alex Debrincat, a better player whose still an RFA next year, cost a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. And before you say Kakko is not worth a first, Dach was picked immediately after Kakko. Kakko has 58 pts in 157 NHL games. Dach has 59 pts in 152 NHL games. Hawks just traded Dach for a 1st and a 2nd.

New York Rangers 2022-23 - Updated with Current Rumors
This team aint going no where. If youre playing chytil at 2C, probably best to just forget about Kane and let the kids play. Motte at 4C? The Rangers are 1 injured center from having center depth of Zibanejad/Chytil, Goodrow, Motte- thats really bad.

Definitely not (even tho the cap jump in 2 years will make it pretty insignificant). I also dont see the Rangers trading for 2C with that much term- they have a lot of RFAs the next few years and its a lot easier moving a guy with 1 or 2 years of term versus someone with 4

Dylan Strome not gonna sign for 2.5 mil. Gonna get at least his QO, most likely 4+. Certainly not going to do it to be a 3rd line center on a very good team. He's 25 and has probably around a decade (at least) to chase cups, hes gonna sign somewhere for 2 years so he can maximize his value before hitting the market at 27 when the salary cap skyrockets for the 2024-25.

Off Seasom
Listen, im not one to say Schneider is this untouchable god some ranger fans treat him as. However, the NYR FO has a hard on for this guy, as does every team in the league bc he hits hard and has a great jaw. They'd trade him, but probably not for a rental, and definitely not in this package. Would I trade just Schneider and a 2nd for 1 year of miller? In a heart beat. But thats obviously not happening which is why I cant see the rangers doing this. Swap Nils in and Id buy it probably.
I appreciate you seeing that teams are tanking for this next draft and players will be had for cheaper than normal. If the rangers added miller but lost Igor to an injury in season, theyre going to be a lottery team, so I cant see them trading their first rd pick before the season starts

that Kane trade is heinous. Hawks just traded DeBrincat for a 1st 2nd and 3rd rd pick-- not only is he better than Kane, hes still has RFA rights! The Blackhawks put a pricetag on kakko last week by trading the guy taken after him for a 1st and a 2nd. So this trade is basically 4 first rd picks+ for 1 year of post-prime Patrick Kane. Hilarious.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aasen6</b></div><div>No, chytils playoff didn’t really boost his value. But miller has gained more value due to more teams being in on him now</div></div>
Nah his playoff performance definitely did boost it- example of this is Barclay Goodrow- mediocre bottom 6 player who the rangers threw 20 million at bc a good playoff run. And while yes, more teams are in on Miller, its only playoff bound teams that need centers which there are few of. Everyone knows Vancouver wants to trade Miller, so theyre probably only going to get a little more than what they were offered at the deadline. Lots of sellers too the year before a monster draft.

I agree with this. On a side note, I dont think it'll happen bc Kravtsov is a complete unknown, but I really hope the rangers dont just stick Kakko on the 3rd line, give him a season to be 1 top 6 RW and play with some talented players.

Cup checklist
Yeah sure why not. I think the rangers need to find out what they have in Chytil, Kakko and Laf, and they should just play them all full time in the top 6 this season. If they succeed and make the playoffs- great! If they miss the playoffs bc Kakko or Chytil aint it or laf isnt a RW- also good bc now they get to draft early in one of the deepest drafts in years. You cant possibly know if a player is a top 6 talent unless they regularly play there, so it just feels like a waste to play them on the 3rd line again. Colorado literally won first in their division and then were terrible the next year and got to select Mikko rantenen in the 2015 draft (SUPER deep draft obv).

Miller trade some other changes
Ranger fan here, Schneider is very much not an untouchable prospect like so many of my fellow ranger fans treat him as (and just about every prospect the rangers have). That being said, don't see the rangers doing this as its quite a big overpay. Rangers weren't down to do this package for Miller at the deadline when they could've gotten 2 playoffs runs out of him. Now that hes a 1 year rental, they definitely won't do it. I also think chytil's value went up after the playoffs. Everyone knows the Canucks want to offload Miller's contract as much as the rangers want a good 2C, so neither would have the other bent over a barrel.
That being said I could see Schneider and a 1st rd working, idk why everyone in the NHL is obsessed with this Schneider, hes really just an average defenseman with *GRIT*.

But the development coaches are like Tanner Glass and Jed Ortmeyer.</div></div>
Rangers aren't that bad at developing forwards. They just dont get playing time to put up points, but the play is there. Laf easily would've scored 60 pts this year if he and panarin switched spots on PP1. But the rangers aint going to do that, bc panarin is still better. Kakko doesnt get special team time for whatever reason, and played 4th line minutes under DQ. You cant develop top 6 players on the 3rd and 4th line and give them no PP time. The rangers try doing and then people criticize the players when they put up bottom 6 point totals. Their young defensemen, they do the opposite strategy and throw them into the fire and look how great they develop.
