Stop Breaking Up The 3M Line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>I respectfully disagree, I think that we need more scoring from a line like that, I think that the addition of Neal to a line with Backs and Chucky is deadly, Backlund is good enough now that he can drive a line and remain a defensive stud, Frolik used to kind of be his defensive safety net. I think using Frolik to create a similar situation that he had with Backlund with a guy like Jankowski is ideal, if you can use the last two years of Frolik's contract to develop Janko into a Backlund Lite then it will be one of the best FA signings Calgary has ever had. It improves our depth while also improving our secondary scoring. I love the 3M line I think this is the way I would like to see it go though, if it doesn't work then you figure it out early and just put them back together.</div></div>
Also disagree, break them up. Disappointing year for Frolik (shooting the puck on our own net in the late 3rd against Vegas which lead to the tying goal was arguably our turning point for the year). Can we chalk it up to injury and "hope" he bounces back, maybe but obviously Tre, unlike Chia, would rather not take that approach. I'd like to see Lindholm pair with Chuk and fellow Swede Backlund to see what happens. Injuries are not an "if" but a "when" so to have Fro as depth and able to jump back to the top 6 when needed is not a bad problem to have at all, Plus Fro will still be on the PK1 unit with Backs I would hope.

Flames 2019-20 (Same Cap)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>His contract will be up and hopefully Anderson wouldn't see a lot of time with Gilles on the track to the NHL, this is simply a safety net in the case that Gilles isn't ready. I know what you mean though, I would much rather have a second in that trade but as I mentioned it would be a high price tag if he is playing well at the deadline, also the Brouwer contract is gone in that trade. I completely agree with what you are saying though.</div></div>
I get what you're saying and don't mind the idea at all. There's just no way a goalie on an expiring contract at the end of his career is worth a first is all I'm saying. Age and contract status factor into value just as much as on ice play. Look what the Kings paid to acquire Bishop last year, Bishop in his prime and didn't even draw a first in return from the Kings. I think you can get Anderson for next to nothing next deadline and Ottawa certainly won't want a year of Brouwer @ $4.5 in return IMO.

Seems like a lot of thought put into this which I applaud but you lose all credibility when you trade yet another first for a 38 year old goalie?????? Please recall we already have one of those and he's better than Anderson.

Karlsson pipe dream
I think its a interesting thought but I really don't think Lucic's contract is trade able without at least 2 mil retained or something like that. Karlson will probably ask for $12mil as well and you can't have two players take up a third of your cap space can you? I believe Chia would do well to sell Maroon within the next two weeks and not re-sign.

ROR to Calgary over the summer
An interesting scenario for sure. Both deals, especially the second one would be a hard no for me. We don't need a top two centre. We will be able to sign Backlund for $6 millionish for almost the same offensive production ROR has at $7.5 million. The second deal includes our top 3 non-pro prospects and with very few picks in the next few years, they are our future. We'd be depleting our prospect cupboards for the next 3 to 5 years.
Regarding Brodie, he is a very good top 4 dman with a reasonable price tag and one huge downfall...he makes dumb mistakes that directly result in a goal against about every three or 4 games. ie. fanning on passes to give up a breakaway or hitting the ref with a clearing attempt. We can't trade any of our defensive depth right now until Fox or Val are closer to NHL ready.

You've gotten rid of two overpaid 4th liners so good job but just too many of our prospects leaving in this scenario IMO. The Arizona trade for me especially is a head scratcher.

Huge Flames fan here, love the trade but you are making one big assumption...Ken Holland is an idiot. Which I'm certain he is not.
Brendan Smith is an interesting signing. Why him over Stone? Thanks

OIlers - Going Deeper
Interested in your reasoning on the NYI trade. What's in it for the Isle? Hall gets you Larsson last year so now you think Eberle gets you Hamonic. Bailey scored more points than Ebs for $2.7mil less last year. How is taking a larger salary for arguably a worse player a salary dump? Look forward to your comments. Thanks

Seems reasonable but one big flaw. If you did that deal LV would be taking Jonas Brodin from Edmonton, not Pouliot.

Build for now and future
I think your signing values are accurate, Daley might still command a little more on the open market but maybe he takes a discount to play on a contender.
The Green trade is reasonable. The other 3 transactions would be quite a stretch IMO.
Specifically I don't get your logic if you're NYI trading for Eberle. Why trade two top 6 players with affordable cap hits next year for one top 6 forward whose value is low after a terrible playoff debut. NY can't handcuff themselves to $6mil the year after next without knowing how much they'll have to pay JT. And don't say, "give us Hamonic instead" lol. The Hamonic trade request has long passed and he too is an affordable cap hit for a top 4 Dman. I'm willing to bet the NYI have declined that offer multiple times in the past 18 months.
I agree that the Oil need to move on from Ebs but I think the only way he isn't an Oiler next year is through a buyout. His value is super low with that cap hit. What do you think about exposing him for Vegas? Just the freed up cap space alone should be counted as a good enough return.
Personally if I'm MTL Gally and his affordable contract are not on the trade block. I'm guessing they will target a centre like Hanzal through FA rather than a trade for one. And if they do go after one through trade I'd target Duchene over RNH.(thoughts Habs fans?)
Thanks Dylan!

Ducks do have to pull something like this off. If a trade like this happens they will be able to switch to the 7F3D protected and would not lose Cogliano don't you think?

This is probably the most realistic oilers scenario I've seen, good job! Except I do think Leon will get paid a minimum of what Gaudreau did last year which was $6.75ish. Likely it will take $7M for him.

What the Flames SHOULD do
I agree with the comments above (JT and Eagle). As much as we hope they want Brouwer, I think we're dreaming if we think they will take him. And Tre knows Pitt needs to move MAF, he won't overpay for him.
Overall I don't mind your scenario at all. What I am questioning are your Bennett and Stone signings. Stone won't take a million dollar pay cut over last year, he's a 2nd pairing guy. Bennett had a horrible year and therefore should not be signed for that type of money. Gallagher as a comparable got paid $3.75M after a 47 point year, Bennett should not get $3.85M after 26 points.
Lastly, I don't see Oshie coming to a Canadian team even if we are the highest bidder.

Alright let's try this again ! Give me your thoughts
I think you're right with the 1st thrown in is the only way Vegas takes Pouliot. I doubt Chia does that though. Leaving only 1 top 3 round picks in the next two years is nuts.
I think you're over valuing RNH, if MTL moves BG the return will need to be a centre that's better than 42% at the dot I would think.
Lastly if you make those trades prior to expansion as you've shown, that leaves them protecting Luc, drai, maroon, gallager, zucker and bailey. Dumba, Klef, Larsson correct? That exposes Letestu, Russell and Kassian, any of which would be a better pick for LV than Pouliot so even the 1st thrown in isn't enough IMO.
I enjoyed looking at your scenario, its creative. Thanks

Big trade with wild
The trade would be a huge error for the Flames. Wild would only move Dumba because they can't protect him assuming they protect 6 FWDs 3 D, correct? This means the trade would have to be done prior to expansion. If that's the case the Flames couldn't protect him either so they'd surely lose him to Vegas anyway.

Fleury + Niederreiter = Cup Run
This would be awesome if it did happen! Stone's not taking that big of a pay cut though. As a clear 2nd pairing guy, he's not signing for bottom pairing money. I agree with the comment above regarding Vegas although I do wish they'd grab Brouwer. Throwing in a 4th round pick isn't going to change that.
