<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Hawks have zero reason to pickup Mrazek with Lankinen and a developing Soderblom; Mrazek is not the type of guy to be a leader to young goalies. As far as flipping him, he's plagued with injuries, wildly inconsistent over his career, and only looked good playing behind the #1 defense at the time in Carolina. If he was on a $1.5M contract, fine, but nobody wants him for his cap hit. Leafs are going to have to at least include a 3rd or Abruzzese type of prospect to move him. Terrible signing by Dubas</div></div>
I can't speak to what kind of leader Mrazek can be to a young goalie, and I doubt anyone but those in the game could. Also, I think "wildly inconsistent" describes most goalies in the league.
That said, The Blackhawks should have no thoughts of competing next year unless its for the lowest possible 1st round pick. If that was my team, I'd want to keep young, developing goalies away from that environment. Just my take on the situation.
I will 100% agree that he does get hurt a lot, and that this was a swing and a miss from Dubas. That said, I'd be happy to flip him with a 3rd or a mid-tier prospect to get a deal done.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>You need to pay to move Mrazek, guy cleared waivers</div></div>
Yeah, I get that, but he also cleared waivers in-season. My reasoning is that the Hawks are sitting on 20+ million in cap space with no goalies signed, and if they can get him for next to nothing and he plays okay you could flip him at the deadline. If not, well, I don't think the Hawks are really trying to win next year so they just ride it out. That said, if I had to add a sweetener to the deal I'd do it as long as it was reasonable.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Farabee</b></div><div>Just delete the hart trade and get a goalie in F/A</div></div>
Yeah, I get this too, but goaltending is voodoo and I don't know that one of Kuemper, Husso or Campbell at 5+ million doesn't hurt other parts of that roster. There also isn't anyone else in F/A who I think could be a starter, and trades for better goalies would cost more in terms of picks/prospects/roster players. It is a super risky gamble though, I totally admit that. I just wonder what a 23-year old with experience, term on his contract, and an up and down track record could do on this team?

Was an accident, didn't mean to have him there, should be on second line, Spezza on 4th.

Not sure what this means, unless you are talking about a 22 instead of 23 man roster, which the team did for a lot of this year to manage their cap.
Either way, you seem like a very pleasant fellow.

Makin Moves
I think it's a mostly fair swap that I modelled around the McDonagh trade. Most of the big-name D trades haven't netted what you are hoping for - they have either been one for one swaps (Subban/Webber, Josi/Johnsson) or picks and parts for a star (Karlsson to SJ).
I used McDonagh because I think he is a good comparable for Ekblad - 1st pair defensemen who isn't elite.
So, let me break down my though process.
To Tampa: JT Miller, Ryan McDonagh
To NYR: Vladislav Namestnikov, 2018 1st Round Pick (28th), 2019 2nd Round Pick (58th), D Libor Hajec (37th overall, 2016), F Brett Howden (27th Overall, 2016)
Let's say the 2nd round pick and Hajec were what it took to get JT Miller. That leaves us with Namestnikov, a 1st, and Howden.
So, in that case I'm giving you Nylander, a better 1st and Holl instead of Howden. Now, if you want sub Holl for someone else that isn't Sandin (Liljegren, Der-Arguchintsev, a different roster player) I think that's fair. Hell, if you wanted me to throw in another mid-rounnd pick on top of that I'd do that too.
But the history isn't there to support getting an "A" level prospect for a D-man in a package like this.

See, Toronto needs the cap relief. Colorado needs a starter. And I think Dermott has a lot of tools but not sure if he can put them all together. Totally willing to move on from him for basically cap space.

Nah, I mean Holl. Trade doesn't happen if Sandin is included - he is my safety when Reilly probably walks as a free agent or gets traded.
Honestly, Nylander, Holl and the 15th overall in a deep draft should be enough. Especially if Chia becomes the Florida GM :)
That said, I'd be willing to add another prospect to this to get it done.

You don't need 23.
From the rulebook "Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. Each Club must have a roster of at least 20 players, composed of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit."

So, I'm a big believer in analytics and both Benning and Hamilton are good adds by most metrics I follow. I'd take either of them over Zaitsev or Hainsey.
You'll both notice that Gaborik and McArthur are on long term-IR, meaning that neither of them will be a cap hit.
