Correct, expect they both will miss the start of the season.
In addition, those are not projected forward lines based on team reporters and analysts to start the season. Schlemko as the #1 1 LHD? He's on the bubble to make the 23 man roster.

Lets go further.. 21/22..
How is Rielly not getting any sort of increase? #1: Cap goes up, so this tells me you're expecting him to tail off. Even if he remains the same player, his contract will inflate. #2: He will be 28/29? when his contract expires so you're paying more money to retain a UFA that would get paid much higher than that on the open market.

Canadiens rebuild
You're UFA signings are ridiculous and not considerable for rebuilding team.
None of your RFAs will be signed. Habs have enough contracts and if smart, will leave room to absorb some contracts dumps. Poehling especially won't sign when he is returning to St. Cloud St. and having a pro contract is acceptable for an NCAA player to have.

Value for Montreal is not there.
Two absolutely horrible trades that neither team would do.

My Opening Night Lines
Problem right now with the Habs is the number of players they have that are waiver eligible. A guy like Kotkaniemi might force the hands of the coaches to play 9 games based on training camp. Camp will tell a lot if they risk losing a player to waivers based on the play of others or if they take a more cautious approach. Their bottom 6 are just that, bottom six players, but at a point where the org doesn't want to lose them for nothing. Same with Scherbak.

Maple Leafs de Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>superbrett</b></div><div>I think he meant with an extension already in place this trade would be made. That being said I don't think either team would do this. Horton can't be paid by insurance and Ottawa won't want to pay someone not to play. As great as Karlsson is Marner has a chance to be something special. Marner also fits closer to the team age.
All the other points that Vortex made are valid too. If the D minutes are spread around more evenly and Carrick gets a chance to prove himself the team will be better defensively.</div></div>
Except Karlsson wouldn't sign that extension to go to Toronto.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>I honestly wouldn't do the Nuge trade. Drouin is younger and Evans has some potential to be good too. Nuge is a 50 point player in Edm. He won't be a 70 pt one in MTL. We have Centers on the way, no need to make rash decisions.</div></div>
Agreed. Too much to give up for Nuge. Evans looks to be a steal in the 7th round, hope he his game translates to the pros.

Funny how Friedman's tweet gets blown out of proportion. "There is also belief that VAN has stepped in to see if it is a match" is now being thrown around like VAN is the front runner. Sure every team has done/is doing this wrt EK.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dirtysaucedonny</b></div><div>I was using those stats to make a point. I think it's pretty evident who the better player is. Other stats:
TOI: Mete; 15:35, Gardiner; 22:32
+/-: Mete; +5, Gardiner +9
Their Corsi for percentage is almost identical as well (50.1 vs. 50.7).
You can break it down basically any way you would like, <strong>Gardiner is the better player and there's really no arguing that</strong>.</div></div>
If you go back to my original comment, you'll notice I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just stating the stats you originally highlighted are not overly relevant considering their playing styles and league experience.

Why would a rebuilding team trade away a top-2 forward prospect and top-2 defensive prospect in their system as well as a 1st round pick when they are not even competitive to get to the playoffs?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dirtysaucedonny</b></div><div>I'll take Gardiner in 88/89 games he played in this year over Mete. Gardiner obviously had one of the worst periods by a player of his caliber in a long time which may have cost his team the series, but you can't discount what he did the rest of the season because of it.
Mete: 49 GP, 0G, 7A, 7PTS
Gardiner: 82 GP, 5G, 47A, 52PTS
I don't think this should even be a discussion...</div></div>
Don't compare the stats of a rookie 19 year old defenceman who does not play an offensive style of game. Mete is better defensively, Gardiner is better offensively.

if montreal draft the best player they can since 2009
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Coulda, woulda, shoulda. You could do this for every team. And if you did most of the players on your list would have been gone by the time Habs picked. The draft is not an exact science and hidsight is 20/20. Bruins fans like to ***** about the 2015 draft when they had 3 picks in a row and Barzal/Conner/Boesser were all there and they did not take any of them. But if every team got redo those players would not be there when Boston picked. Yes it’s aggravating. Fans only remember the mistakes. Nobody ever gives credit for picking the guy that should have gone 20 picks higher. Fans are fickle.</div></div>
Thank you! If GMs today knew that Kucherov would be as good as he is, he would not of been a 3rd round pick. The only miss I agree with here is McCarron...and not for Butcher but for Theodore (who was the very next pick and had slipped in the 1st first round). Outside of that, the 'optimal player' to pick did not have same the junior pedigree that the player that Habs selected to merit reaching for that significantly. These hindsight drafts also place way too much emphasis on points.
