Bergevin cannot make Sergachev the centre piece of any trade with TB. That is just openly admitting to the world that you regret trading him away. No GM should every publicly do so. I'm not going to get into value here or whether or not either side would make the trade, but the request from MTL would be for Foote from TB, not Sergy if they were looking for a young D.

Having never played an NHL game, Tkachuk deserves no spot on this roster. Rielly is also the #1 LHD, not Chabot.

Well everybody would rather have EK than PK. But the scenarionis mute because neither is affordable without major assets going out the door.

He only gets paid 1.25 mil of the total 18.75 after July 1st of next year. Totally possible his contract is moved</div></div>
He wants to win a cup. If he is hovering around the 50 point mark again this season there is no chance he doesn't play the final year. He has to agree to any trade anyways (so if he's playing, why would he). being 35+, Toronto gets zero cap benefits from doing so. Their hope would be for him to retire (but I don't know how the cap recapture penalty would work there).

It's not that its not ideal to trade Marleau (it's not a good move don't get me wrong) but he has a NMC and chose to go to Toronto. He will not waive to leave Toronto. They are as much in contention to win a cup as any other high end team, so why would he leave? As a favor to Dubas? No chance.

There was a Rangers trade listed (must have been deleted). I forget all the pieces but it involved 3 pieces going to the Rangers (one being Lindgren) and the only piece back to MTL was Staal.

You have no cap room to offer EK a contract extension. So might as well waive bye-bye to Nuge.

Referring to the Rangers trade.
But now that you mention it, that Kings trade is also egregious.

Why are the Habs trading a (hopefully by then) starter ready NHL goalie for an regressing 34 year old defenceman?
PHI is giving up way too much there...even if this deal was done today it would be too much. The assets MTL is sending are trending downwards too.

Will you Leafs ACGMs stop trading Horton? Other teams don't want him and the Leafs are one of the few that have the cash flow for this type of situation.
Chicago is not going to retain almost 3 mill for another 6 years for a mid-level prospect and 7th round pick.

Habs fun
It is not out of the question that Kotkaniemi plays 9 games for the Habs this year before going to Finland/AHL. It all depends on his camp.
Poehling however is not going to sign that contract. He has already stated he will return to the NCAA next season. The Habs are pushing the contract limit and don't need to waste one here. They are better off letting him play in the NCAA then sign prior to the 2019/20 season. The Habs have 46/50 contracts and are better to keep them open for potentials cap dumps to 'help' teams out this year.

OK. You're misinterpreting that I'm trying to say Pul is the next great thing. I'm not. I'm just saying the jury is still out on him. If he puts up another 20-30 point season in a full 82 this year, his value is going to plummet like Bennett.

Point was Puljujarvi had his first "full" season in the NHL last year. And 20 years old so really has not seen the opportunity yet. Bennett has played 3 seasons and has regressed since his rookie season.

Values are not there for the other teams. MTL if they were to trade Price at this point is not retaining 3.5mill. Thats the salary of 1-2 players for 8 years. Come on.

Another Karlsson trade!? Whaaaaaaaaat?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>First of all Sekera goes right on LTIR, so not a problem. Lucic will be easier to move long term VS Ryan. And 9.5mill is top dollar. Its just not ridiculous money like north of 10.</div></div>
With Sekera its not about LTIR cap space...OTT.
Getting Lucic "saves" the Sens about 4mill. Not really significant because if that was the case. You're assuming Lucic will be easier to move than Ryan, not the case.
Sekera was not a great defender before and now has an achilles injury to deal with which will affect his value the next two seasons. He MIGHT return to form for the final year of his contract. Besides he has a NMC and is not going to waive to go to EDM.
Paying players north of 10mill is not ridiculous when the salary cap is going up year after year. Top players now are negotiating based total cap percentage. The only way EK doesn't sign 11 or higher would be because he signs in a tax-free state.
