What needs to happen to get this team to the next level
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>At this point they would have to trade so many guys to make them a bottom 5 team and I doubt the league would be happy with them intentionally tanking.
You got so many bad teams right now, and on top of it you got teams that are crashing down to reality in NYI, WSH, PIT.
You aren't going to get worse than those teams crashing in the next 1-2 years.
They just have to play it out stuck in the middle for a while and hope for the best. Too good to not finish bottom 5 and not good enough to really compete for a cup.
But you never know maybe they get lucky in the draft. It is what it is. That's what happens when you rush a rebuild. But I'm sure it didn't help that ANA and SJS both crashed down at the same time.
I'm sure the league didn't want all 3 of those teams sitting on the bottom.
All I know is it's a rough world in the west right now, you got McDavid, MacKinnon, Petterson, and a VGK team that constantly manipulates the cap to give them really good players all over but no real franchise guy.
That's a tough place to be. Hard to win against that.</div></div>
I agree with ya…def a very tough conference to be in right now. **** ton of talented teams out there and then you have Vegas doing what they do, I’ll leave it at that w them. I watch the Kings and can see this team being one of those top teams in the West, but then there are games where I’m like, “just start rebuilding…” there’s talent on that team, no doubt. Good young talent at that, but you also have guys who just don’t fit. I’m a big Kempe fan, think he’s been one player who keeps getting better and better each year. I actually think there’s more to his game…I think he can be a 100 point player. Now I’m an East Coast guy, I don’t see many Kings games, but from what I have seen and read, the guy has all the tools. I love that he’s a physical player but also has skill to score, pass, play defense…and flys on the ice. Anyway, thanks for your comment…this is one team I’d like to see get over that hump.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>no star talent.
They rushed themselves into mediocrity.
In 2020 they had it right finishing toward the bottom. They should have stayed there and built up.
But I guess not everyone can be on the bottom.</div></div>
Let me ask you this…should they consider trading Kempe for some younger players/prospects/picks? Possibly Danault? Gavirkov?

Mitchell needs less pressure
Pressure will always be there in the playoffs. He just doesn’t have it. Great player, tons of skill, can do just about anything with the puck, but winning mentality…ain’t got it. You gotta be able to turn it up come playoffs. Flip that switch as they say. Find that fire inside. He doesn’t have it. Happens to a lot of great athletes in any sport. Great during regular season but come playoffs…nope, ain’t got it in them.

Exploring a Marner Trade to Get a Cup in NJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Would you say this about Matthews, who has similar success in the post season? It's unfair to judge Marners post season play in a vacuum, because every single Toronto player disappears in the post season. These are pro athletes we are talking about, it's not like they just phone it in when the regular season is done. The issue in Toronto is behind the bench, not on the ice.</div></div>
Hahahaha my apologies, I didn’t mean to upset like that. I know they’re pro athletes, the great ones turn it up come playoff time…that’s what separates them from the rest of the pack. And you can add Matthews to that as well…another who disappears. The problem is on the ice, on the bench, front office, etc. My personal opinion, they need some players with some nastiness to them. Guys who will do whatever it takes to win. They don’t have that. Bertuzzi would be the closest one. No, not the best at anything, but will give everything he has inside him to win. Matthews and Marner, nope…they’re way too talented not to show up in the playoffs, but reason why is cause they don’t have that “fire” inside of them. You know who they need, Brady Tkachuk. I know Leafs fans will tear me apart for saying that, call him a crybaby, etc etc…you can’t tell me that guy doesn’t bring it every single night. NHL needs Brady in the playoffs.

No team will ever win the Cup w Marner on it. Complete opposite of what you want come playoffs. Does not show up at all. Soft ass little baby. Leafs need to trade him as soon as their season ends.

Potential Retool for Caps 2024-25
Question for Kings fans, if they don’t make it out of 1st round, do they make some big moves in offseason? Trade one of the “core guys?” The one I’d be really interested in is Kempe…most likely “untouchable”

Would Canes consider
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Indy</b></div><div>Remember when everyone said JT Miller's career was over, a negative asset, can't trade that awful contract even with 50% and a first last year? Fans are too caught up in the "what have you done for me lately" mindset. Not saying Johnny is going to get traded but thankfully most GM's look at the full picture, not just look at the score sheet and go "oh only 60 points he sucks". When you actually look into it all his points came from primary assists with hardly no goals nor secondary assists. It doesn't take a genius to realize he's getting smothered when he's out on the ice because the other teams treats him as the only true threat. Its similar to early in Lebron's career he had no assistance in Cleveland and basically the entire strategy was triple guard Lebron and take him out of the game. That's why a healthy Laine, or another viable winger, would make him look like peak JG again as its quite impressive he was able to be a ppg player since the start of the year even when basically playing the equivalent of hard mode this year.</div></div>
Well said and completely agree. Most on here do just look at current stats, and what the player is doing now instead of looking at the whole picture. JT is a great example. So much negativity towards the guy last year and now look at what he’s done. Guy has always been a workhorse out on the ice. A do it all type player. Anyway, great response.

Offseason

P/60 the last three seasons
Kyrou 3.11
Keller 2.96
The gap gets a little wider at 5v5. And Kyrou is easily better in transition, easily more impactful defensively. And he's signed longer.
So again, how exactly is Keller worth more than Kyrou?</div></div>
I’ll give you one. Keller doesn’t cry when he gets booed. Soft ass Kyrou needs his hand held and to be told everything will be okay.

I wasn’t too sure. I can’t get a read on TK’s worth. I’ve always liked him, so I’m probably little biased. Appreciate the way he plays, very scrappy player, fearless. I’m also unsure on how much Flyers value him. Do they offer him an extension or say thank you and move on to younger players. I mean he’s only 27, but for Flyers that’s probably a bit on the “older” side.
