McLeod Arbitration Award Ramifications For Bouchard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>I didn't say or even imply Bouchard had arbitration rights, not sure why you felt the need to point that out.
</div></div>
An RFA player without arbitration rights doesn't really have any other options (maybe europe?) He's not negotiating a multi year deal unless Holland wants to, and with the cap expected to rise by 5% and with Neal's money coming off the books, Holland can wait.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>
You aren't getting an equivalent player who will accept less money though, so trading Bouchard is a non-starter. It's guaranteed to make the team worse now and in the future.
And Bouchard is much more than just a PP quarterback.</div></div>
Bouchard's not even to 200 games, I don't know what he is. I can say that he had 5 goals and 25 points last season 5 on 5, and has had a positive zone start push since day one. He's getting better defensively, but he's not taking on the hard minutes, so for now, looks like a second pairing defender that plays on the PP.
Bouchard is in a difficult spot when it comes to cap hit. If you can buy 3 UFA years at $5.75m, I'd have no concerns, but he's not going to sign a longer term deal. Buying one UFA year or none? Why does Holland do that?
If Edmonton wants a one year deal (and I think that they will) its in Bouchard's interest to sign it, and go to arbitration next year (I believe he will be arb eligible then.) I think he gets a one year deal closer to $3.5m, and Edmonton looks to go longer term on the next deal.

Bouchard doesn't have arbitration rights.
Better question, if you flipped Bouchard for assets, what could you get back? If his agent wants to play hardball, Edmonton could flip him for picks/prospects, and move some of those assets to take on another PP player.
Wonder what Tyson Barrie would cost. I'd bet he'd work well with the PP.

Hellooooo Bouchard
Bouchard's agent - you can get $6.75m x 5 for $33.75 and play first pairing on the Flyers, or take $3m x 1 and play second pairing on Edmonton.
Oh, and you get to run a powerplay with McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, and E. Kane.
Something tells me he's better off not signing the OS.

After the draft
I think Bouchard takes a 1 year deal. He doesn't have arbitration rights this year, will have a stellar year running PP1, and the cap is expected to rise by ~5% post-Covid escrow. Could see him closer to 3 on a 1 year deal.
That said, I wouldn't be shocked at any of the players. Maybe another vet like Janmark on a $1m/1yr deal for 4th line defensive duties instead of Bourgault.
Well done.

Total buyout is 433k this season, and 533k next (when the cap is expected to rise by 5%.)

I can't argue that, they have been terrible. That said, Campbell went 0.961sp in the playoffs. Ekholm was a great add for Edmonton, I wouldn't be shocked at a bounce back campaign for Campbell.

Why? Elvis has 150gp with a 0.906sp and a 5.4m cap hit compared to Campbell's 175gp with a 0.911sp. Elvis is two years younger, but at 29 and 31, they both should be in their prime as goaltenders.

I like Carson Soucy, but Ceci is a right shot, and with your pairings, you have two pairs of left shooting defenders. Desharnais?

Tom Gazolla tweeted out "Stuart Skinner working in the starter’s net. Evander Kane not on the ice. Dylan Holloway skating with Draisaitl & McDavid. Bjugstad centring RNH & Hyman." - he thinks it may be a smokescreen, though.
I'd say Kane's taking maintenance, and he'll be with McDavid and Drai.

Just Curious
Bouchard was drafted 10th overall in 2018, and is currently 9th in points from that draft. He's a 6'3" right shooting offensive defender who doesn't use his size and has a remarkably low panic threshold (which is both a blessing and a curse.) Currently top four partnered with Ekholm (partnered with Duncan Keith as the 2nd paring last year,) I think he'll round out as a top 2 offensive defender.
Given that they're handing him the keys to the Edmonton PP#1, I would try to pick him up in any keeper draft. I wouldn't be shocked if he leads the league in the next couple of years for defensemen for points, given his role on Edmonton's PP.
PS: Edmonton's never trading Nuge. Ever.

Just not enough value for Pionk.</div></div>
Barrie isn't a cap dump, especially with Bouchard going into a contract year. If you were a GM, would you give Bouchard the reigns to the PP this year knowing the contract situation?
Is Foegele's performance that much worse than other third line (~2.75m) players?
That, and given this roster has $4m in dead cap, not sure that Edmonton couldn't find a better deal that helps them.

Edmonton's in LTIR, which means they don't accrue cap space. Being close to the cap is better for them (with the players on ACSL.)
You'd need another deal that makes sense for Edmonton, and given that they're giving up a first and three roster players for this one, IMO the other one would have to be a major upgrade.

Frank Seravali's reporting that he's remaining with the Oilers on a PTO with Bakersfield per Twitter.
Personally, I'd play Broberg big minutes in Bakersfield, and have Nemo/Demers as the 7th in an 11-7 deployment. Demers experience, and Nemo's hitting, depending on the opponent, would IMO give the biggest bang for buck.

Day 1 possible w no trade to get under cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Do you get to gain cap space when players are on ltir?</div></div>
To maximize the accrual pool (which is not really cap space, but this site is really good at explaining it,) you need to be at the maximum when the players are added to LTIR.
Going forward, teams in LTIR do not accrue space, but the maximum pool size is based on what they have when players are put on LTIR.
Highly recommend the FAQ on this site. Really informative.

Day 1 possible w no trade to get under cap
To get the most ACSL and to manage cap due to bonuses, Broberg will be on the opening roster.
If you have Malone instead of Benson, Broberg instead of Niemelainen, you end up maximizing the pools with $167 in cap remaining. With your current roster, the maximum you could go to would leave 113,333 in dead pool space.
