Holl is a 6/7 type. A role he is playing on a team desperate for D.
No. They are not comparable.</div></div>
One has a history in the league, one doesn't. Both are currently playing top four, production is nearly identical minus PIMS, size is close, one makes four and a half times more than the other... So yeah, one is a buy low and the other recently got dealt for a buy low because his ceiling is known.
As far as D are concerned, they're very similar. AHL champion versus NHL champion. Know versus unknown.
Rutherford versus Dubas.

Holl is comparable to Edmundson, decent depth, and yet one is worth a giant package and the other is worth nothing? The reality is salary is the difference between the two and Holl is a fraction of the cost making him more valuable to the team.

More for Edmundson than Muzzin? Who is this guy and why are we giving away 1sts for him?

Those numbers are before he stopped 37 of 39 to steal a point in Nashville Monday.
As for your other comment, his "hot streak" lasted three years. He earned signing the contract, he just has had stretches (mostly at home for some reason) when he didn't live up to it. Even so, he has still won in COL twice, NASH twice, WASH, VEG, WPG and TOR among others since the start of last season. The party line on him is drastically overblown.</div></div>
Performance + contract = worthless.
You're a fan of his, I get it. He isn't terrible and they all have good games but even at half price, for the Leafs, there is no conversation to be had.
Allen has been the team's Achilles heel for all but one year and if there was a market for him to date, he'd be gone.

Pietrangelo and Allen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Worst goalie in the league, huh? This notion that Allen is so horrific in goal is a joke. In fact, he's one of the best road goalies in the league. Just ask Nashville about Monday. Of course, he's had plenty of struggles the last couple years and on bad nights he's his own worst enemy. His save percentage is still far better than several starters in this league, and he's never had a season below .905. The league average is currently .908. Folks go waaaay overboard trying to slam him. Sorry, he's not simply a cap dump. He can actually play some and steal points. Just not as often as he did a few seasons back.</div></div>
He's just another goalie that rode a hot streak into a multi-year extension similar to Reimer. He would be a decent backup at one sixth of his cap hit but in today's game, cap dollars mean everything and Allen is worthless.

Why would anyone want Allen? Salary and performance are awful.
Look back at the Karlsson and Muzzin trades to give yourself a price range for Pietrangelo...and then divide it in half.
Ceci and a pick, sure. Ceci and Hyman, sure.
Liljegren and a 1st is steep, probably too steep.
And Kapanen is a non starter.

Aside from the fact that their contracts mean more than their points, there is one reason and one reason only that the Pens could never make this trade.
They can't bring in an inferior player that makes more than both of their best players, who have been the best players for at least the last decade.

My thoughts on that Blues and Pietrangelo trade stuff
The Leafs aren't after depth players from STL and their big boys aren't scouting Toronto for table scraps. It's Pietrangelo for something like Ceci and Hyman and they're watching to see both in person.
Pietrangelo would already be signed and they wouldn't have added Faulk if he was staying.

Rielly to lw
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevorchef</b></div><div>You mean the way he benched Patrick Marleau last year when he was an absolute anchor in the top six? Or the way he continues to roll out Ceci against top competition despite his lack of ability to think quickly against the leagues top players or close a gap properly? Babcock doesn't think that way dude. He has his "favourites" and he plays them regardless because he is a stubborn ass. I admire the creativity of your thinking but it simply would not be a feasible option.</div></div>
It's not meant to be feasible. The design here was simply to draw attention to Rielly's poor play, Babcock's usage of him, and ideally get a constructive conversation going.

Rielly to lw
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevorchef</b></div><div>No, I'm actually not. I understand the point you are trying to make. It just makes no sense IMO. Think about how Babcock coaches this team. He is currently playing a suspected injured Morgan Rielly 25 minutes at night against top competition. Now look at what you have left of that already crappy D-Core after you've made this move. There is no way that Babcock trusts Holl enough, to play him in top pair minutes. NONE!
Holl has played well in a bottom pairing roll and that is where he is effective. Ceci and Rielly against top competition have been terrible. I just think that you are massively overlooking the way this coach deploys people. It doesn't work man. Sorry, but that is the truth of the matter.</div></div>
Let me help you out on this one.
If Rielly were a winger, Babcock would have benched him and or given him the 4th line/healthy scratch treatment for all his mistakes. Instead, because he is a defenseman, he is logging the 6th most ice time leaguewide and the team's record and stats reflect how bad he is in his own zone.
Usage is a big problem with this team.

Clearing his 4.5M could open up some possibilities.

His 30 days are up from the original waivers which is why he is on waivers again and we'll find out at noon tomorrow whether he clears again. Which I hope he does.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they're looking lazy out there, just different, not themselves. Marner seems a little too relaxed and that playful side we're used to seeing is being contained... most of the time.
To me they just look like a team that expects to have an easy year and isn't putting in the work to make it happen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>redwings_fun</b></div><div>But Kap has not looked good on the second line with Tavares and Marner. So Kap will stay on the third line probably wont get much better sitting on a third line. Moore has proved he can take his spot and Julien has a lot of up side. I really don't think trade Kap for a second (possible first ) and Julien is making the team weaker. If Hyman comes back and Tavares is ready to go and they produce. Absolutely that would be the best trade.</div></div>
Kapanen has 8 points in the last 7 games. He may not fit on the first line but this kid is a player and this team needs him more than futures.

Kapanen is worth more in a trade which is exactly why they'll keep him. The goal is cap space not a weaker team.

I'd be stunned if Hyman and Ceci were on the team come playoffs and I'd be equally stunned if they dealt Kapanen. People seem focused on a short roster which is possible but Dubas has proven to trade his way out of perceived problems and appears to be several steps ahead of the masses.
