Perfect Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AmeriCanadian</b></div><div>Why would Detroit currently in a playoff position sell a point per game forward? Doesn't make any sense</div></div>
I heard there were rumblings from an insider that Edmonton might be looking at Detroit as a potential trade partner. Though that was before Detroit's win streak; I didn't realize how high in the standings they were. I figured they were closer to 60-65 points, not 70-75. Just replace the Kane deal with a similar deal for Guentzel then.

Perfect Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Henrique with 50% retention and Carrick for the first and Lavoie is entirely reasonable, and from the Ducks' perspective probably desirable. What does Jack Campbell, who is entirely unnecessary in light of John Gibson and Lukas Dostal even if he were good and/or cheap, have to do with this?!?</div></div>
There to make the salary work for the Oilers. It doesn't make sense for them to trade players on the roster for Henrique, due to the fact that the contacts that would go back the other way are either younger, play defense, or better players/would disrupt synergy for a sidegrade. Campbell is the big money player not on the roster that probably needs to go somewhere for any trade to go through with the Ducks.

These contracts are so sin. No way that Campbell signs for 2 mil, hes looking for 5 mil. Giroux prolly makes more, Kulak makes less. And Holland is known for trying to keep around 1 mil in cap space to use for the Deadline.

False. The idea was not banned and in fact, one year later the Calgary Flames bought out Michael Stone and resigned him a deal with a lower cap hit. The premise of the whole thing is very much so legal and an option open to the Oilers at this time.

Lavoie isnt anywhere close to ready for the NHL yet.
Fleury won't come to EDM; Jack Campbell and Ville Husso is more likely at this time.
Malone more likely to play over Shore and you forgot to have 3 healthy scratches on the roster, so the cap doesnt quite work

I forgot to say that this trade is done with stipulation that DeAngelo does not re-sign with the Canes. In this case, they would actually have interest in Barrie, and I've heard that Necas isn't exactly thrilled to stay in Carolina.

Barrie Getting Trade Take 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>I just can't get behind moving Barrie. He's similar age to most of the core group and have liked his game more specifically this past season saw a ton of extra attention to defensive side am absolutely fine with his on ice contributions but his off ice impact I think is severally undervalued by fans. His personality seems like an incredible asset in the dressing room.</div></div>
I agree; personally I wouldnt mind keeping Barrie around. But the problem of the Oilers is the defense, and Barrie eat up a roster spot and 4.5 Mil in cap. When Bouchard is on the roster doing the same role as him, it's pretty easy to point to Barrie as the first piece to move on the team.

Barrie Getting Trade Take 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ceeque84</b></div><div>Malone will be a full time 4th liner before shore is, Woodcroft loves Malone and even put him in a playoff game before Shore.
McL needs to be full time 3C next yr. plus he doesnt ever play RW.
Keith will be back unfortunately.
I like the idea of signing Gags, and if they gave him a bit of term he would probably sign for $800-850k. But if they did get him they should trade Ryan as Gags essentially plays the same role for less, plus he is 3 yrs younger. Ryan is coming off a decent season, they could probably get a 3rd or 4th rnd pick for him from a team looking for some vet C depth.</div></div>
I know McLeod has spent time on the wing when he was playing up with Draisaitl at times during the season. But yeah if you would prefer McLeod at Center, they could run:
Kane - McDavid - Hyman
RNH - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Tufte - McLeod - Brown
Malone - Gagner - Ryan
Id figure that it would be fine to keep both Gags and Ryan because its never a bad thing to have good players on your team. Im not exactly sure who I would replace Ryan with either... maybe Malone at Center and Benson on LW? But then you are just making the team weaker when we have the cap space for both. If you have a better fit though I'm all ears! And as for Keith, I think at the moment I'm just assuming he's gone so i can have more freedom when creating a team. If he's back then the amount of options in roster creation is far fewer. I also heard that theres a chance that they trade him to Arizona, Arizona buys him out, and then Keith signs a 1 year 1 mil contract with the Oilers again. Would be crazy if that were to happen but i dont think that situation is likely to include here (though it would fit cap space wise within this team).

I see this moreso as: Dallas doesnt resign Klingberg and gets another player to fill that role. Finding a 5/6 defenseman for cheap is a lot easier than overpaying for a Klingberg replacement IMO.

I think Sens fans extremely overvalue Brown. Every Sens fan I hear from thinks that he is worth a 1st round pick + a high prospect. Brown =/= Fiala and Fiala had a lower return. I think this is plenty fair and it gives you a player that can protect your teenagers in the lineup and a solid 2-way player that can compliment your stars for years to come. Meanwhile we get 1 year of Connor Brown.

Next Season v7 Realistic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>So, if I'm reading this right, you're thinking that it's not a hilairously large long shot that Lou Lamoriello, who builds teams based on a defence first philosophy, would turn around after 35 years in the NHL to change how he builds teams? That he'd trade a very good, very cheap RD, to acquire a defenceman who can't play defence, all the while giving you around $3 mil in cap space, which allows you to upgrade in net, and to re-sign Kane? And all of this depends on Smith and Keith retiring?
Seems to be fairly Edmonton-friendly here, and quite unlike something that Lou would do.</div></div>
NYI 21st in the league in offense last year. I think they 100% can do with a little less defense and a little more offense. It's not like Barrie plays 0 defense, and like someone else said, the Islanders have the man power to shelter him in a 5/6 role. It doesn't seem to me like the Islanders are fiending for cap space, and this move will 100% improve the team without costing them holistically on their strengths. But again, if you don't like this move, you can choose which Barrie trade you prefer the most from the list I gave above.

Kane has already let it be known that he would take a discount only to stay with Edmonton and that would have to start with a 7. Anywhere else he wants 8, so not sure how you give him 6 but could see him coming in at 5.5</div></div>
I've seen other reports that have him at 7 mil for other teams but for the Oilers he would come in "at a number that starts with 5." And have also heard other report corroborating this sentiment that say that if the Oilers sign him for less than 7 mil and the court case makes Kane a Shark again, the teams would put together a side trade that sends him to EDM at that price value (with SJ retaining the difference). I haven't heard 8 from anywhere personally.

Next Season v6 Tons of Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bobcaygeon97</b></div><div>I like the thought process, Helly would be way to much for the Oilers to trade for, doesn’t matter the picks and prospects or players, WPG would want the moon and rightfully so, he’s that good. I actually believe it’s Vasilevski then Helly. WPG just had a off year.
Pains me to say that being an Oilers fan.
Also, the only thing stopping Lavoie from being a top flight prospect is his willingness to engage, his shot is NHL calibre as is his skating. He needs to get dirtier and that’s straight from Woodcroft.
So for this that are ragging on Lavoie he’s closer than people are giving him credit for.
Also Xavier Bourgault is a total non-starter for those that mentioned him. He’s the Oilers best prospect and that includes Carter Savoie and Dylan Holloway.
I think we’re you might have lost people is Kassian, he’s just not a player teams will give a lot for certainly not Brown.
I do like your Barrie to Pitt if Letang walks, I think Pitt would get very interested in Barrie then.
Lastly, I’d like to see something similar in the Foegele deal, something the Oilers need like a Soucy or Sissons and even Labanc but that’s were a pick or prospect might need to be added.
Cheers, good job.</div></div>
I think that people rag a lot on Kassian, but he does give teams grit. To a team like Ottawa with plenty of young players in the lineup, I think it's fair to say they could use a player like him in the lineup. Plus, I think Lavoie is more than enough value to warrant OTT taking on the Kassian contract, especially when they aren't strapped to the cap. That's just me though. I appreciate the kind words though!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Don't forget the severity of Eichel's injury and the fact that him wanting out was so public, impacted the return Buf got for him.
Hellebuyck is probably considered a top 3 goalie by WPG and there are going to have teams lining up, so while typically goalie's have less trade value than elite centers, I wouldn't be surprised if Helly returns more than Eichel did.</div></div>
That's fair, perhaps the Erik Karlsson trade may be a better indicator. The Sens got Chris Tierney (Jesse Puljujarvi has more value i would say), Dylan Demelo (Ott later traded for a 3rd rounder), 1st round pick (Oilers pick would be a lot lower, but we can make it next year's first to make the trade even), Rudolf Balcers (Minor leaguer that got waived, but since the Sharks also received a similar player in the deal we can just scratch this part of the trade for simplicity sake) and Josh Norris (which i think you can argue that a Petrov/Savoie/Tullio has around the same value as Norris did back then). Still pretty even value and Defensemen 100% have more value than goalies.

Holland will say it's too much and throw money at some goalie in Free Agency or try trading for someone who would cost what you offered for Helly.</div></div>

I'll remind you that the Jack Eichel trade was Tuch, Krebs, 1st, and then trading up a 3rd to a 2nd rounder. So the trade I proposed isn't necessarily that far off; I probably just add on either Petrov/Tullio/Savoie and its equal to the Eichel trade.

Suggesting Brown is worth a 1st and a top tier prospect is utterly laughable. He's worth a low 3rd rounder MAX.
