Stand Back I Dont Know How Big This Thing Will Get
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>Go actually look at his advanced stats over the last 3 years. He's not terrible defensively. That's the kinda thing that people who haven't paid any attention to the development in his game since he joined the Jackets say. He's not given nearly the level of credit he deserves for his defensive effort and willingness to adapt his game and become a more well rounded player.</div></div>
Look, Foegele has outscored him in the past 1.5 seasons (5v5). He's just not worth giving up a whole bunch of assets for. And his effort levels defensively aren't great.
Just looked up his latest scouting report from CF:
<em>Elite shooter. Ability to beat NHL goalies from range. Needs to utilize his stature and reach as more of a weapon in high danger areas in the offensive zone.
<strong>When he isn't moving his feet / working to empty the tank / he becomes a stationary liability defensively</strong>.
Easily defined overall. Capable of scoring north of 30 goals.</em>
This isn't news.

I know Petry had some distractions and injuries, but he also still can skate, pass and shoot at high levels. I think there is still something substantial there.</div></div>
If you believe that, why not trade Kulak for Petry? That way you retain the guy you <em>know</em> can play 1RD while acquiring a guy you <em>think</em> can replace him. There's no risk then... we already know Kulak's ceiling and it's well below Ceci's.
That will shift Broberg back to his natural side too.

He'll likely be on the AHL team unless there's a spate of injuries. They have a bunch of rookie and 2nd year pro wingers in AHL this season, so they want high quality veteran centers to help groom them.
And of course, Holland ALWAYS makes sure there are training camp battles so the young talent has someone pushing them.

there is a max on retained contracts, and they're stuck with OEL's for a while because of his buyout. 3 is the max. OEL Nemeth and Kassian currently.

Hayes just got moved for a 6th with 50% retention. Sharks fans need to prepare for what they get back in a Karlsson deal. He basically dictates where he is willing to go, and the Sharks have to oblige that.

In the Minnesota trade, Calgary does not need to add to that deal. AT ALL. For a still very effective RHS C/RW at a reasonable cap hit (with 64 goals which is 40th in the NHL over the past 2 seasons) this is a fair deal.
Replace Logan O’Connor with Alex Newhook and that is the correct deal for Backlund, who had a career year last season. He would eat Johansen’s breakfast, lunch and dinner. Excellent hard-matching centerman.</div></div>

Oilers 23-24
I can appreciate the thought process but unfortunately it is very far one sided.
Foegele at a maximum is a 2nd at the TDL (assuming he improves) and is not multi year. His departure from the team is more of a benefit to EDM than his arrival in DET. Add in the fact the trade stems from a contender, meaning the value he offers isn’t good enough for a contending team, there is less than zero incentive.
Ceci is in no way worth a 2nd. To Detroit he is nothing more than exchanging a draft prick for overpaying a UFA. The Wings aren’t competing for a cup by the end of his contact. Paying for him means having 2-3 less years of a 4M bottom pair D (Chiarot).
At the end of the day, the Oil need a better W than Foegele and better D than Ceci, otherwise they would be with them next year for another legitimate chance at a cup (I lost 100 betting the oilers to win it all last summer). Their cap being gone is more of a benefit, and Detroit won’t be aiding them in a cup next season unless incentivized. To other teams they hold value, to the Wings, flip the picks and it’s closer.

Every GM Hangs Up The Phone
I'm a Kostin fan, and I believe he was drafted by Armstrong so this makes some sense to me. Not sure how they'd feel about using the retention slot this way, but I like the idea.
I still don't think anyone is salivating over Ceci or Kailer (late picks at best-- or negative value to most teams), so I can still be a hater and post in this thread. ;)

Also looks like you've underpaid quite a few guys expect for McLeod weirdly?
Lavoie would get a shot before trading for a guy like Boyd.
<strong>We can get assets back for Yamo/Ceci even if its crap like late round picks or swaps, that's better than buyouts imo</strong></div></div>
Not so much a joke as sarcasm. OP agrees with you but I'm guessing he got annoyed at people telling him or others, no one wants Ceci or Yamamoto.
I'm sure if a Karlsson deal can be worked out both would be included and another option maybe would be Parayko considering the guys the Blues have taken a flyer on.

Fixing The Oilers
Nugent-Hopkins won't waive to play for a rebuilding team, nor is a rebuilding team in a spot to take on contracts of star players. Trust me I quite like NH, but he is not what is needed in Philly.
Also, he just got 100 points while playing for 5 mil? Damn, the Oilers would be dumb to give up on that.

Fixing The Oilers
So we trade our rookie goalie who's signed for cheap over the next 3 years for a bottom sixer and a bottom pairing d-man? Then we trade our 100 point scorer at 5 mil a n d our best d prospect for a goalie we don't need. Then using the cap we just dumped we sign Matt Nieto of all people to a contract which is way too much (which is just the funniest part of this entire thing)

That’s the thing with prospects, if you are a draft pick, someone is very high on you. If you get signed, then several in the organization are high on you. Just remember he is a 4th rounder (I think), teams tend to value 1,2,3 rounders more, so he is exactly the type of player that could be traded in such a deal. It is far from a guaranteed that he will ever become an NHL player .
But he is definitely impressing hockey people on some level.</div></div>
He was drafted in the Wilson squared era and got his ELC in the Grier era, so he’s definitely impressing the right people. At this point I think it’s more likely that Hamaliuk would be a throw in before Cardwell.
