Not true. Holland has said he is considering it. Obviously he has options and still has 2 more days to decide.
He is likely traded on Thursday and when he is, every single CBH fan who called KY trash is gonna hear from me.

You are correct, I have been arguing this for 6 months, but there is an ocean of push-back here.
The Brent Burn trade should have been a hint.

There is no max on retained salary deals, but there is a 3 player max on buy-outs and Arizona has 2. And they only have OEL as retained salary.
However, Arizona is pivoting to try to be more competitive. They should be active signing UFA’s and may swing a trade or 2 at the draft.

You will need to send at least 2 NHL players back to SJ along with a couple of prospect and a couple of 1sts.
What do you propose the Arizona trade looks like (Anaheim is apparently open to playing middleman retained salary deals.

There are too many experts blinded by their biases and too much in love with their guys on this otherwise excellent website.

Oilers fan here, Lindholm and Backlund are excellent players, I’d be ecstatic if they were somehow added to my team.
In the Minnesota trade, Calgary does not need to add to that deal. AT ALL. For a still very effective RHS C/RW at a reasonable cap hit (with 64 goals which is 40th in the NHL over the past 2 seasons) this is a fair deal.
Replace Logan O’Connor with Alex Newhook and that is the correct deal for Backlund, who had a career year last season. He would eat Johansen’s breakfast, lunch and dinner. Excellent hard-matching centerman.

First thing, Murphy isn’t good enough to cost Broberg, besides Ceci is cheaper and better, so there is no fit in Edmonton.
On the current roster Murphy would become 3RD and, assuming Bouchard gets a 1x $3.5 million contract, CM would be by far the most expensive RD, so it just does not make economic nor hockey sense.

Off-season moves
I think Tullio is far too valuable to the organization to use him as part of a Cap dump. Yamamoto should yield a 4th on his own, especially to a team with multiple 4th rounders…. I would think a former 1st rounder who has loads of utility would actually net a 3rd without any throw-ins.
This organization is thin enough in prospects already and with the lack of picks moving forward it is only going to get worse.

Since the Cup win, Parayko’s game has eroded.
The numbers bear this out and the difference since the SC season and the last 4 seasons is stark. He is a below average top 4 defender.

As you can see, the sample size is not small. He is not worth a 1st. Also, if the reporting is true, the Oilers are the only team he will accept a trade to, so there will be no 1st pick in a trade for him.

I disagree. Holl is very good and in Toronto there is no middle ground, you are either great or you are garbage (see Ceci/Barrie). Once they hate you there, the narrative sticks.
Luke Fox had great things to say about the player and 3rd pair is a perfect spot for Holl.
That 4th line might get 5-7 minutes a night. By the end of the season they will be ready for the playoffs….the only way to have bargain contracts is to take a chance on inexperienced players (see Kostin)
Broberg needs to play, so Kulak needs to go…

When you’re trying to dump contracts, you give up picks for others to take the bad deals, you get draft picks AND prospects.</div></div>
Both players are superior NHL players to most on that Columbus roster today. Add in playoff experience and they are easily worth more than this.
Last I checked Columbus doesn’t have enough NHL calibre players, especially dmen. Kulak was often the 2nd best, and sometimes in the best Dman for Edmonton during these playoffs. He makes too much as a 3rd pair D and he is blocking Broberg, unfortunately Nurse cannot be moved, so Kulak has to go.
Kulak is worth a 2nd right now and would very easily be a top 4 defender on that Columbus blue line (ask any Habs fan) and comes at an extremely low cap hit for that role.
Foegele can be a consistent dominant force (ask any Canes fan, he was a favourite there too), but he is too expensive for the Oilers on the 3rd line where he is blocking Holloway.
Both players make the CBJs better, 3rd and 4th rounders are an excellent bargain for that. Both are big, fast and physical, this trade is a literal gift and you are complaining about improving your team for a song.
I lived through a decade of darkness in Edmonton (so many bad teams/players) and I know where Columbus is at right now. I remember my GM trading a 3rd for Nikita Nitkinin’s (a Columbus player) signing rights. The guy was barely a NHL player.
Like I said, this deal is a gift and this helps Columbus immediately and has way more value than any of those distant draft picks.

Lavoie, is not a bust. He has taken massive strides this season, actually. He is trending to make the team next season. I’ve been following this player, including watching all his games over the past 4 seasons and I wanted to trade him last summer, because I felt he was a bust. This season he really turned his game around.
If you care to read this, here is an excellent summary (with video) on the top goal scorer and the most consistent 5v5 player in Bakersfield this season:
https://oilersnation.com/news/amp/the-edmonton-oilers-prospect-report-raphael-lavoies-2022-23-season-review
Clearly you don’t watch Oilers games on the regular. Kostin wore the same uniform, but barely shared the ice with 97 or 29.
He generated his goals on the 4th line mainly, with some time on the 3rd. Linemates were mainly Janmark, Ryan, Bjugstad and McLeod. He had a primary assist on 2 McDavid goals, 27 Feb vs Boston & 1Mar vs TML.
Draisaitl had 0 points on Kostin’s scoring stats. Klim Shady has a wicked hard shot, scored on an off-wing wrister vs LA in the 1st round that was measured at 97 mph…. He could be a 20 goal scorer in this league as a 3rd liner, but he’s gonna get paid.

I wasn’t referring to the playoffs.
Stubborn coach only moved 2 players in and out of the lineup during the playoffs (Janmark & Broberg). This is relevant because of the success (see record going into the playoffs that I referred to) and he wasn’t willing to mess up the chemistry of the line-up, apparently.
I know you just want to argue. So, you are right, you got me, I’m an ignant, know-nothing.

He was so good and his numbers were so good he seen 46 games and averaged 7 minutes on ice.
Don’t be surprised if Broberg isn’t an Oiler come September
Holloway couldn’t crack the line up in the playoffs with Yamamoto as bad as he was, that should tell you something long time Oiler fan.</div></div>
Yes Gronk, thank you for your opinion.
When Klefbom cracked that D-Corpse he had well past his prime (and 3rd pairing) Andrew Ference, Nikita Nitikin and Keith Aulie blocking him….this indicates to me that you don’t understand the situation, since the situation couldn’t be more different.
Holloway couldn’t crack the line-up because his $925,000 salary couldn’t fit and he was waiver exempt, and that’s why $750,000 Klim Kostin stayed on the roster and Holloway ended up in the AHL. The Oilers were also on a 14-0-1 streak, so why would the coach insert a rookie into the **PLAYOFF** line-up for no reason?
Also, it is rare to trade 1st rounders on their ELC’s, especially if the GM is the one who drafted them.
Who, in your opinion, are they getting traded for?

I think you might be disappointed come the start of next season, there is a real chance nether of these players on on the Oilers roster.</div></div>
I’ve been watching this team a long time, including prospects in their leagues and in Bakersfield. Broberg is a significant talent and is playing the hardest position in the league. He will be better next season and even better in the next decade.
In fact your assessment is incorrect and these numbers back that up:
http://puckiq.com/woodmoney?season=20222023&positions=d&team=edm&group_by=player_season_team
I know Holloway is no Yamamoto, but he is a significant talent. What this team needs is youth on cheap contracts to produce. This kid is a good 2-way player and he is more experienced than last year. Underestimate him at your own peril.
But then again, you sound like an expert, so what do I know?

If you look at this from the standpoint of ownership, this contract costs them $46,000,000 over the next 4 years. Even if they retain 50%, the Sharks are only on the hook for $13,000,000. By year 4 they only pay $750 K and overall they save $26,000,000. This might mean nothing to you, but in real life it does.
Regarding the players coming back, Bourgault might not be Steven Lorenz, but he is a significant prospect who has the potential to play anywhere in the lineup and in all situations. He will probably be at least a 20 goal scorer and a 50-60 point player, so 2nd line RW.
The other players will help to fill out the roster and perhaps help this team be more competitive and the 2 (potentially) 1st round picks aren’t nothing.
Finally, Karlsson holds all the cards. If he wants to move, he will be moved. However, you have to understand that the market is extremely limited to maybe 3 or 4 or possibly just 1 team. This deal is the best you will ever see for EK65.
In a couple years maybe he can be moved for a 4th line Center, a high 3rd round pick and a 2nd or 3rd tier prospect. If that is the case, enjoy!

Not sure how you have come to this conclusion.
Veleno hasn’t scored anywhere close to what Yamamoto has done in the NHL and in the AHL they have the same amount of points, Veleno played in 19 more games. KY has 50 career NHL goals to JV’s 36 total NHL points. KY is a great PKer, does Veleno even PK? And Veleno has the worst fancy stats of all DRW C’s and is a 42% on the dot. What gives?
Every shred of evidence clearly points to Veleno being the trash player.
