William Nylander Trade
We genuinely couldn’t afford the extension and we honestly don’t have another backup to take over for Quick and he’s somehow been pretty much vital this year.

Bye Bye Sheary
Am I crazy for wanting to see guys like Groshev, Goncalves and Thompson a shot with the big club? Motte, Jeannot, Sheary, Glendening and Watson are killing me (not all performing poorly, just feel like more youth would be nice in the bottom six). Really hoping Edmonds, Gauthier, Finley, Schmidt, Alnefelt and Howard can also jump into the team in the next couple of years, hopefully maybe even Huuhtanen.

Guentzel and Gourde
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>The issue is going to be that A the Pens are still in it and B they won't want to trade in the division. So it would have to be a very unfair trade to the point where NY would have to be crazy to do it.</div></div>
I mentioned that no one would do this above. The deal above won’t make Rangers or Pens fans happy which means it is closer to realistic than we may believe, but I get your point. Objective was to see what this team would look like with a major acquisition and it would look pretty damn good in my opinion.

another high pick on the way
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>Jones is a fine 7th man. Robertson hasn’t really had a shot and I’m not sure how he’s been this year.
Sykora, Berard and BCM will be bottom 6 players which they’ll need so avoid spending $3.6m on another goodrow. And I think they’ll be better than what we have besides vesey
But none of them are right wingers, so the rangers will have to shop for that next year
Also to mention, they’re already low on players in the AHL because of injuries and Drury wants to make the AHL playoffs as well. Good teams have a good farm</div></div>
That provides an interesting conundrum then. Best way to improve the AHL is to stop trading picks and keep developing guys internally, but those very picks are needed to upgraded the team. A fascinating issue indeed.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>No way Drury is gonna mess with the current roster and chemistry they have now. Hell just add using picks and prospects that have no future with NYR</div></div>
That’s what I’d do. In my opinion I really don’t see Jones or Robertson ever truly making the roster. Sykora, Berard, Korczak and McConnell Baker are longshots. Realistically, I see Othmann, Perrault, Garand and maybe Fortescue making it in the next couple of years. Might as well move the ones with little chance in an attempt to reinforce the current roster.

Plus he’s better defensively than Miller imo. I don’t think we are in a position currently to move a defenseman off the roster. I’d personally look to reinforce the d core with a 6 or 7 d man like Seeler to reinforce the team.

Guentzel and Gourde
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan</b></div><div>Rangers only do that Pens deal If it comes with an extension. No one is paying that much for Gourde.</div></div>
Even if we drop a prospect or 2 on the Gourde deal, it’s still 50% retention and a tremendous improvement on Bonino as 3C, but yes ideally we would pay less. Really looking at Guentzel as another top 6 goal scorer with a proven track record, but I agree if a rental likely would not want to give up as much. Thankfully Wheeler seems to have seriously improved and Laf looks great. If Kakko can get back and up to speed quickly, I wouldn’t mind a smaller addition like Duclair if the price were right.

would the rangers do this
Respectfully decline. At this point with Chytil potentially being out the rest of the season, I want a 3C more than a RW. And I’m not moving anyone off the roster, it’d be a combo of picks/prospects (excluding Othmann or Perrault). If the cost above was Schneider for Senko, I wouldn’t do it.

Didn’t work for Vancouver with Luongo, Rangers with Lundqvist, Canadiens with Price, Predators with Rinne. A better overall team is more important in my opinion.

I think this roster is solid. Not sure how much faith I have in Chytil staying healthy, but I’m hopeful. Really disappointed Kakko wasn’t able to breakthrough offensively prior to getting hurt, but hopefully he can get healthy and eventually get back on track (more patience needed).

I’m not even thinking about the current play. I’m more concerned with how the team is gonna look in 2 years from now. Cap won’t go up enough to resign everyone and fill out the roster with better talent and to retain the talent we have. I just don’t see how we can pay Igor an additional $3-5 mil and accomplish the goal above.

I really think extending him to a $9 mil deal would be a mistake for us. It limits the depth and we saw with Hank a great goalie alone isn’t enough to win a cup. I’d rather a better team and a slight downgrade in net. Wouldn’t mind a John Gibson if he were cheap and available, but at least someone like that.

Doubt either side does it, but do we then use the picks and try to trade for someone else (thinking Gibson with retention maybe). Only Quick would worry me not having insurance there.
