Time to get rid of the toxic locker room
:laugh Matthews and Nylander decline. Laine is made of glass and can't even stay healthy for 50% of the season.
:laugh Kadri and Markstrom $2,000,000 retained for worthless crap. Calgary passes

Honestly I would get rid of Kadri for some more depth pieces and A better d-man. Probably Schenn.

Josh Anderson and beefing this team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HShockey</b></div><div>Yeah, just an idea. I think buying him out is probably more sensible (costs 1.72, a million less but for three extra seasons). Could consider this to save 1.72 for the last three years and get a few picks back
Hughes really fumbled not dealing him a year ago when they could've landed a 1st for him..</div></div>
Trading him to a bitter rival with 50% retention for 3 more years for a couple 4ths is worse than simply having dead cap for longer IMO. The alternative is just keep him, which I think Habs are perfectly fine with. There's always the chance he gets hot and a team comes calling.
Assuming the rumors were true, than yeah I think they messed up big time too but I remind people to remember that the details of the trade were never mentioned. Chances are it required the Habs to eat 50% of his salary also but just for a better return. Which at least would have made the offer palatable.

Whats his cost
Hayton plays the Steve Rucchin role between Schmaltz and Keller. He's doing all the dirty work for that line. I think they are very happy with his play, despite his drop in points in this 16 game sample. After they moved him up in the lineup last year, he had 34 points in 47 games to end the season. Doubt they dump him after a slow start where he's still looked very good despite not getting on the scoreboard.

One trade
Durzi makes very little sense for the Oilers. He won’t play on our PP. And he’s a bad defender at 5v5. Good producer 5v5 though, but he’ll tank us in the playoffs with his defence.
Bjugstad has his chance to be part of a contender. He doesn’t want to win, he wants to sun tan. All playoff teams should avoid him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HShockey</b></div><div>That's a bit much for a pending UFA in my opinion, I'd consider moving Akythakmov (ranked no.5 in prospect rankings by Athletic) or Hirvonen (ranked no.6) at best. With a reasonable extension, the Leafs may consider moving Niemela</div></div>
In that case I think NSH would either decline on the prospect and ask for more draft capital, or just deal with a team with a deeper prospect pool instead.

Idk why the leafs are so interested in 34yr old d-men? Bogosian, Tanev and Savard are all 34 or older this year. At least the medical staff would be earning their pay.

Kakko deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>Let’s hear your solution then lol use that 1st for Tarasenko? Another rental and still no RW on the roster next year</div></div>
The point is that 1st could be more valuable for some teams than Kakko.
Secondly, if we were just gonna trade that 1st for Tarasenko, why even bother making the extra trade? Just trade Kakko for Tarasenko.
Thirdly, if we were to trade Kakko, that removes 2.1m from our cap, inevitably Goodrow is bought out at the end of the year freeing up an additional 3.6m and Chytil's career is likely over freeing up another 4.4m in cap space. More than enough money to resign Tarasenko for 2 years.
As far as my solution, theres a dozen players in the NHL Id be interested in, however whether or not theyre available is another story.

That's an overpayment for a 6th defenceman.
As for the Flames deal, I don't see Keefe wanting a guy like Kuzmenko and playing him on the PP, where he should be. The Flames will more than likely trade him at next year's trade deadline because his value is very low right now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>T0R</b></div><div>Do you hate him enough to retain 50%?</div></div>
Why do Leaf fans have such fascination with bottom enders on non playoff team? Gee with your lineup the Leafs Giordano and Timmins are gone via waivers and having just six NHL Dmen.
Hardly a wise way to build a roster.

Berggren mock deals
Berggren isn't struggling - if anything he is very ready to be a regular NHL forward.
That CGY trade makes no sense for the Wings.
If Berg is traded it will be for a young, cost-controlled player or prospect OR someone they can sign long-term - likely someone on D.

Berggren mock deals
Red Wings can't afford Guentzel long term.
Yzerman has to give big raises to RFA's Seider and Raymond this summer.
If Stevie is trading Berggren he'll likely be a piece in a trade involving a top 4D like Hanifin or Chychrun.

Honestly if the TDL clock was winding down and we had a retention spot left we'd move him for peanuts, the only cost in trading him away is occupying a retention spot.</div></div>
Also a real solid defensive forward as well
Like I said before, trading him for us doesn’t makes sense because it wouldn’t be worth it the the minimal return he’d get if any at all

Would be an off season trade, not necessarily for Strome but I think Strome could be moved — why I just used used him for the trade here

Roster Reconstruction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HShockey</b></div><div>This year, not really. But he’s playing top pair minutes. On a team like Dallas where he plays 2nd to 3rd pair minutes and PK he will be effective. There’s also retention involved which boosts his value.</div></div>
That’s more or less what I thought. Lots of people have been asking for a top pair dman return tho. Your proposal is def reasonable but I’m hoping Nill can find a way to add a higher impact player while keeping Bourque, Stank, and Bichsel. Wishful thinking I’m sure. Thanks for the feedback. Always nice to talk to reasonable hockey fans
