First 2024 Mock with Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Gotta love and appreciate the effort on this one, seems like you did your research on everything well.
That being said, I don’t see Igor Chernyshov being high on Toronto’s list - at least the people I know that work for the team haven’t mentioned his name a lot.
Treliving typically doesn’t draft a lot of Russians and Chernyshov doesn’t fit his style of play. He’s more of a skilled playmaker and perimetre player whereas Treliving values the bigger, stronger, meaner guys earlier on in the draft and typically saves the skilled players for later in the draft as project picks.
I’ve heard they’re keeping an eye on Charlie Elick - a big, strong skating right handed defender playing for Brandon in the WHL. & that seems to not only fit Treliving’s draft history style, but also the team needs. Elick should eventually round out as a solid #3 or #4 defender that plays a push back style game - it’s something the Leafs don’t have a single prospect in the system that plays that way at that position so I gotta believe my sources are right that Elick is high on their board. If he’s available, gotta think Treliving runs to the podium to get him</div></div>
Elick is already gone at 15 in the mock though. Maybe Badinka would be a good alternative.
Also, Chernyshov is 6'2", 192lbs, so hardly a small guy.

First 2024 Mock with Trades
Great work on the analysis; I always learn a thing or two when I read through your draft lists. As a Habs fan, I'm happy to hear that the Hawks are looking at defensemen.
Utah with Celebrini would be very dangerous in a few years.
The picks all make sense to me, though I can't see Sennecke or Hage making it out of the 1st round at this point. I have them both in my top 20, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go even higher than that.
Other people have already pointed out some of the issues with your mock trades, but I can see the two pick swaps happening (probably with more compensation coming from the teams moving up though).

Predictions vs Reality in the 2023-3024 Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>There were a lot of injuries to key contributors on the Ducks this season, we only got half a season of Leo, 3/4 a season of McTavish, 1/3 a season of Zegras (1/6 where he was actually healthy) and Mintyukov was down for a spell as well.
Here's to hoping next season, with the addition of Cutter, we move up to 4/5 in the Pacific. Calgary and Seattle should be catchable to jump up.</div></div>
Yeah, I think you guys are well on track to be competitive in ~2 years. Next year should be more fun than this year at least.

Buyout Anderson and Dvorak
Habs don't need the money now and don't want the cap penalty for Anderson on the books for three extra years. Send him to the AHL and wait for 2026 to buy him out. Dvorak buyout makes no sense, he isn't even on that bad of a contract.
Habs can't afford to add all those contracts, they would run out of money in the next two years between Slaf, Guhle, Dach, Reinbacher, and Hutson needing raises.

Trading up
This would make sense if the Habs were desperate for cap space. Maybe if they add a big free agency signing or trade acquisition, but as it stands, it doesn't really work.

No Eichel?
I would do something like:
Draisaitl - McDavid - Hyman
Pettersson - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Kaprizov - Eichel - Bedard
Forsberg - Thomas - Miller

Why is Reinbacher our 7th defenseman in October 2026?

No, retention remains even if a player rejoins the retaining team, so we would have both Petry and the Petry retention as separate entities at that point.

Buying out Petry would not open up a retention slot, it would extend the retention through 2025-26

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Z0ra</b></div><div>Solid list the two prospects the one prospect that you missed out on was Teddy Stiga. He's near the top 10 in my eyes, second best skater in the draft and elite defensively.</div></div>
Thanks!
And thanks for the tip. I do like Stiga, though anywhere in the top 16 would be a big risk in my eyes. I think he could be in the mold of a Yanni Gourde if he develops properly, but that's a long development path with lots of room to go sideways.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Okposo_Lover</b></div><div>To me, watching Romani he plays like he was a first rounder last season. If he doesn't go top 32 id be shocked. Becher is more of a reach for sure but we always see that in the late first. Not necessarily DY+2s but reaches, so I wanted to be bold. I also got Nabokov as my #1 goalie and going in the 50s lol.</div></div>
Makes sense; it's a great year for over-agers, so it'll be interesting to see where they all end up! I like Pulkkinen and Vuollet as well, though Vuollet is more of a late 2nd to 3rd guy imo.

This would be quite a shocking result. A 20-year-old drafted in the 1st round and an over-ager drafted in the top 20 would be neat.
