<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>because you are getting a quality player behind that contract</div></div>
You are right and probably still wrong at the same time. Covid has really disrupted a lot of what we could say with confidence previously.
Byron is still a solid player. Capable of 15+ goals on a 3rd line role etc. Hes not a "cap dump" in the traditional way but would sort of need to be treated as one, to move at this specific point in time.
Covid has priced out these players unfortuntely, as you can get a similar player for a quarter of the cost and term.
Its not that Byron isnt good, he is, its that teams can now get players similar to Byrons ability for cheaper so there really is no incentive to pay even a 4th for Byron. Things could change as the year goes on however. Especially if Byron lights it up for example.
Pre covid, Byron could easily fetch a 3rd. Now much less and the Habs would probably have to take on a 1-1.75m contract that we wouldn't actively want in return just to make it work.
The mistake ppl make is now associating Byron as bad player because of the current circumstances. Hes slightly overpaid but he is by no means a bad player. If he was making 1.7M, i dont think MB would even entertain moving him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>I've literally done no assuming. What are "Scratches" if they aren't Taxi Squad?</div></div>
Scratches are guys that are on the NHL roster and count towards it fully (as usual). Taxi Squad is a group pf players that remain with the team, but count towards the NHL team as if they were in the AHL. But again, I'd think someone that chirps as much as you have been doing would have known that. You're discrediting all of your comments like this. If you don't know something, fine. Just say it. Don't sit there and chirp people with your bias opinion of your favourite teams roster just to try and sound smart when you're clearly not.

This series really just comes down to whether 40 Million in 4 forwards can beat 15 million in 2 goalies....

Yes, grit is an element in doing so, and one that the Leafs have lacked for some time. They've addressed that, while still keeping the thing that makes you really win: talented hockey players.
MTL has no answer for the big 4 up front. Suzuki, Danault, and Kotkat are fine, but not even close to the same level. D is comparable - sure they play a bit of a different style but MTL's is no better.</div></div>

Just because he didn't fit in with Carolina doesn't mean he's a bad defender. I have no idea who the terrible 4th liner is. The only reason we got Anderson was because he was injured, otherwise Columbus would never trade him. Players like him aren't available in trades ever. He's not there to put up points, but that's all Toronto knows how to do so I'm not surprised you don't realize there's other roles.</div></div>
Don't worry, he thinks Leafs enforcers: Nic Petan, Denis Malgin, and Jimmy Vesey will show the Habs who's boss

Well firstly it’s way to early to tell - TDL/ injuries/ team play will change things for either team.
On paper Montreal is just the more stacked team OVERALL. They’ve made an insane amount of changes to their team, and Price is their game changer.
But.
If price is injured/ struggles in 1-2 playoff games that’s a lose-able series. The leafs have 1-5 game changers on a given night.
Once again I’d say Montreal for now, but I think we’re too quick to count out the leafs cause lol well it’s the leafs. If the team can finally play as a team this year and come together as a unit they can win any series. Brodie was a major upgrade and they got some rookies coming in for hopefully a full time role (then obviously they have Matthews followed by Tavares/Marner/Nylander/Rielly who as a core all possess the ability to be a game changer/ are game changers if they chose to step up).
Montreal for now but Toronto is a tough draw if they put it together finally.

Trying something different
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>I'm not going to bash Gallagher's skill because I simply can't, but don't try and discredit Danault by saying it's Gallagher who is the reason he is as good as he is. Both players are great in their own ways. I never once said Montreal should 100% do this trade no questions asked. I simply said it should be considered because two first round picks aren't something that gets traded everyday.</div></div>
I wasnt trying to discredit Danault, he is an elite 2 way player but his offensive side isn't as good as Suzuki or KK's. I get what you are saying, I just don't agree with it. IMO the above offer doesn't have 2 firsts plus for Gallagher though. IMO the offer is Johnson + Raddysh + 1st to dump cap for next season and 1st for Gallagher.

Byron is a good player, Coburn was a #6-7 dman Paquette 4th liner-13th forward. Byron healthy can bring you ~20 goals + he’s good on the PK. Byron will stay in MTL IMO. He’s an assistant captain, Bergevin likes him, I don’t think he’ll pay to get rid of him

Maybe, still secretly hoping Mete is moved, and I’d put money on MTL waiting to see what Juulsen can do after his long absence (Cuz he’s waiver eligible) before deciding who gets traded or waived.

I mean I don't agree that all of those signings/trades made sense, but all of the guys you listed save for Anderson (who I think is the best player of the bunch long-term) have won a cup. So they are anything but losers. Maybe you have something more astute to offer in critique? Being losers ain't it.
