Yeah, Weal’s only benefit in the NHL is his playmaking, which isn’t ideal for a 4th liner.

Honestly, he'll be a fourth liner at best, but at this price, that's totally fine

I'm really surprised tbh. No risk at all and better than Weal. Probably won't see much ice time, but yeah I'll take it.

No you really cant. Danault provides so much value 5v5, but is terrible on the special teams. Just because he doesnt get a ton of points doesnt mean hes not good

Cost of Golagoski
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>1. You are right both are good players just one still has a role on the Habs while the other wouldn't.
2. Why would it be impossible to buy him out?
3. The Coyotes have 0 cap space and 1.95 Mil in bonuses to payout this year. They absolutely need cap space to cover these bonuses let alone to add at the deadline if they are in the playoff hunt.
4. Maybe it would make more sense to just trade Byron in a separate deal then.</div></div>
1. Both would have a role with the Yotes. So this doesn’t make sense for them.
2. Because he has 1 year left and his contract would be finished before our next buyout window.
3. MARIAN HOSSA. They have $2.5 million in wiggle room, and bonus overages don’t matter because they have a tonne of salary coming off the book next year. And it would be ridiculous to actually think they could be a contender in the next few years. What likely happens with Goligoski is that he gets traded to a contender @ 50% retained salary for a 3rd at the deadline.
4. Why on earth would we trade Byron? He’s still a valuable part of this team on and off the ice, and he wouldn’t be perceived as being nearly as valuable in a trade as he is to the habs.

well
Trading for Gaborik does nothing for Montreal, he raises your cap by $4.875MM, and then you put him on LTIR and that raises the Montreal cap as much as they are over the ceiling, up to $4.875MM. You get to pay his $975K salary, insurance pays the rest, for nothing.
Anisimov is only owed $1.5MM, compared to Byron who is owed $9.6MM
Both Gaborik and Anisimov come off the books after this season, when Tkachuk, LBrown, Batherson, Balcers, Wolanin and Zub could be looking for raises. Byron would still be on the team when Norris, Nick Paul, Tierney, Formenton, and Brannstrom might need raises.
It's $3.4MM in cap the Sens might need in a year or two. Trading for byron could block Ottawa from signing a FA that actually fits this team. I can't say it enough, there's no room for Byron in Ottawa.

Simple question here: Agreeing that Danault leaves, what would be the Habs center line if Suzuki gets injured?
KK-Poehling-Evans-Vejdemo? KK-Evans-Belzile-Vejdemo?
That screams AHL line up.
My point is that we still need Danault for at least 2-3 years.</div></div>
I understand that, but if Danault leaves, Bergevin will sign a veteran for the 3C spot to a 1 year deal IMO
I agree we need Danault, hopefully he ends up taking 4.5M on 4-5 years lmao

Cooper goes to great pains to shelter Sergachev from top competition. He played just 26.2% of his 5v5 TOI against Elites last year (the highest of his career) which is third pairing comp - six other TBL defenders played harder minutes.

Agreed, it's bad for both teams. Danault will be turning 28 years old next year wanting close to $6 million per season. That's not how Yzerman is operating he's going with a much younger core group in the next year or two.

Detroit shouldn't acquire him because they don't want to be competitive and that cap can be used to help the rebuild.

He is a lot better than people think. The habs just have too much depth at forward so his aav just doesn't make sense for his role anymore. This is an accurate assessment. The draft pick could even be lower though.
