Something Different
MTL might have to move a LHD but Chiarot isn't that guy.
Also they really don't need a "veteran presence". They already have Weber, Price, Petry, Byron and Gallagher for that. And finally if Hornqvist can't keep up with the pens forwards he definitely can't do so with MTL.

It has been rumored that Oulers and others have looked into Murray and JR has wanted a 1st for him. Because of that those teams have scoffed and ended the conversation. You can ask for what you want does not mean the team will accept. The price will come down on Murray and either Pens accept or move on.

Laine
I think this is a slight overpayment by MTL.
-16th overall pick
- Our best prospect (4th in the league not in the NHL)
- Max Domi , top 6 guy who put up 72 pts last season
- Fleury who is projected a top 4 RHD
Regardless, no chance MTL does this. Laine is a great player don’t get me wrong but I can’t see Bergevin giving up those assets.

Realistic Ducks Offseason Lineup
MTL needs scoring, not d-men. Lindgolm is a good d-man, but we lost in the playoffs even though we only gave up 1.78 goals/game. We need goals. Lindholm doesn’t address that. It’s just not a fit.

Why keep him if youre rebuilding tho? This team wont be competitive before 4-5 years (till then, Mantha will be 30 yo and his best years behind him)... Adding a guy like Sanderson plus great assets would be much better for your team imo

I mean you gotta give to get. Montreal won’t trade Danault for a late first and depth pieces alone. They likely would trade him for a first and a good prospect. Maybe Vesalainen then. If I’m Montreal though, I’m pushing for Heinola.

Petry would probably the first defenseman on at least 10 team and would be a number 2 on probably 20 team. He have outstanding possession number, play big minutes, he play a very physical game and put point on board regularly. Everything a team would ask from a defenseman. He is only 32 and he have still 3or 4 more year of very good hockey to gave so yes he is worth That Kind of return since defenseman of that size and skill are almost never available.
In the past 3 years he rank in the top 30 around the league in almost every offensive category, for hit and he is one of the best for puck possession.

They’re right side can handle losing Pulock since they have Dobson, their left side is weaker and will need to keep Toews. I’m not saying it’s impossible but this move would really make it hard for them.</div></div>
To add to this: If they do match then they run the bigger threat of an OS to Barzal which they definitely wouldn't be able to match and if I am MB that would be my strategy going in sign Pulock to an OS first one low enough that it has potential to be matched bit not so low as to definitely be matched then either you get Pulock or you sign Barzal at 9.5 x 5 and NY would be screwed.

Agreed. I think islanders will be pissed and want to match but doing so could actually cause more issues. I bet they would have a few choice words for the habs and take the compensation. Petry I definitely agree can fetch that return without much trouble if willing to retain half the league would be calling and asking.

Based on a previous trade
I know they are in caphell with Barzal Pulock and Toews etc etc but no way they trade Dobson just to ease that situation. This guy is a future top 2-3 Dman for the next decade. I think he as more potential than Romanov but let's say MTL is tight with the cap and Idk Suzuki and Petry has to be sign (closest comparison for Barzal and Pulock even if it's not even close), would you trade Romanov just to get rid of Alzner?
I think Wahlstrom/Wilde/Bellows/Holstrom could all be traded as a sweetner before Dobson if so. Even then, they can find others way to work around that cap. FFS I would even think about letting go of pulock or toews just to keep that young stud, he can easily replace them and will be cheap for at least another 3-4 years.

I mean that shows how much you know right there. The whole slight against Caufield was that he was a product of Hughes, people didnt know how he would be without this franchise center. This year he proved that he can drive a line by himself, because he did. Turcotte wasnt the best player on Wisconsin this year, Caufield was, and it wasnt close. Newhook and Zegras were on better teams and put up better numbers because of it. Scouts have Caufield as one of the top 5 best prospects because he was playing against bigger tougher opponents and was still a ppg player. Next year will be a big indicator of how well he can actually handle being the only star player on a team but after this college season Caufield showed he is a top player in the NCAA.

Lundell who I think will be around at 8th overall will probably be better than Domi in a couple years.</div></div>
I think I make this deal if I am the Sabres. Domi is a quality player that would be under team control ideally for several more years. I agree the upside on a player drafted at 8 o/a is higher, but this team needs to get better now and it is not like Domi only has a couple of good years left. I know this is a highly touted first round but if you look back the Sabres have drafted 8th 4 times and not one of those players has gone on to be better than Domi. Also just look back at 8 o/a over the past 20 years and only 3 or 4 of the players drafted there are better than Domi. So there is a good chance you may end up with a player that is worse and you will have to wait at least 2 or 3 years to learn this

Only a couple differences here
1. Minnesota needs young centers more the MTL needs LHD
2. Domi is younger
3. Domi is negotiating as a RFA where Brodin will be a UFA
4. Center is the most valuable position.
All signs point to Domi being more valuable

I’m not saying all of them have to stay but adding that much cap really changes things.</div></div>
Completely agree and just to add as well, the length of the new contracts added will make it very difficult to choose who to protect or not come the expansion draft in 21

Asking Price for Jack Eichel
Trading for a player like Jack Eichel is a bad idea for any team. The truck-load of assets that a team would have to give up to acquire him would be devastating to a club's future. As Edmonton and Buffalo have both demonstrated over the last 5 years, a single player can't fix your problems. Plus, you're one injury away from destroying your franchise for the better part of a decade. That's too much of a risk to take.
If you can get lucky and win the lottery in a year when there's a generational player available, then hooray for you. That's the only reasonable way to acquire a player like McDavid or Eichel in their prime.
For example, the asking price you put in LA's situation would be:
Alex Turcotte
Anze Kopitar
2020 Top 7 overall pick (one of Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Raymond, Drysdale, Perfetti, Rossi)
2021 Top 15ish overall pick (who knows what that could be)
That's just insane.

MTL Blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>If you think all that's stopping Graves from being more valuable than Domi then it would be insanity to pay a 1st and Jost on top of Graves. He's not exactly had a rollercoaster season, but been extremely steady every since he got his 26 game call-up in 18/19. That stint convinced Sakic that he was capable of replacing Nemeth, but of course he ended up doing more than that. There's no reason to think that he's going to see a drop-off given how steady his play was.
Realistically Montreal are going to be hard-pressed to find another young top 4 LHD with that size and skill, especially considering that his next contract is likely to be very low for what he actually provides.
And from Colorado's perspective there isn't really going to be a shortage of forwards available to choose from this offseason, either via trade or UFA, in what will very much be a buyers market due to the flat cap.</div></div>
I don't think MTL will panic for LHD though, they will see how Romanov does and if he doesn't fill top 4 need then they look to move one of Drouin, Domi or Tatar for one. Tatar would be my choice. Even then though, I think they would be looking for a Brodin or someone in that 25-29 range that's established.
Like said, Graves is good and im sure he will be but I don't think they move Domi for him unless they know 100% what they're getting and that's where professional scouting and GMs make those decisions. Right now, Graves would be a nice add but Avs would need to add to him to get Domi, things of course will change after the playoffs and when the draft is but at this moment they add.

Domi for Ehlers is fair enough.
But I don't see Montreal trading Petry for Stanley and a cap dump.
They could probably get a 1st + 2nd for Petry as a one year rental and Stanley's value has declined to a 2nd at this point.
