What do Oilers fans think of this trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Oilers should absolutely not be trading for Anderson however if they did I’d swap Barrie for Kassian for the reasons you mentioned. Puljujarvi Barrie and a 2nd for Allen and Anderson?
I don’t hate that but I don’t really see a retention on Allen’s contract. What if instead of Bourgault they included Broberg? I don’t really know which prospects the oilers value most but I think the habs would like to add prospects over picks since they all ready have so many

There’s no chance montreals retaining salary on Petry.. never happens in real life. They may take on Khudobins contract instead. With Prices future in question I think they’ll wait to trade Allen at the trade deadline. That way primeau doesn’t flounder in the NHL and has some help

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>chuck28</b></div><div>as a MTL fan i would like this DAL trade but you will get destroyed by DAL fan .
i think the asking price for Petry is close to what we receive for Lekhonen :
prospect B+1st round OR prospect A + 2nd round
here i add a 2nd on MTL side to receive a 1st
in my FANTASY ACGM i made important word here is FANTASY.
i think it would be closer to :
to Dallas :
Petry
2023 2nd round
vs to MTL :
Bourque
2023 1st round
draft pick are in2023 because it will happen after the draft and the start of UFA if Dallas cannot get a replacement for Klingberg with UFA.</div></div>
I think this is very accurate but adding Khudobins contract to the trade to offset Petrys cap.

I think it’s a better chance if you remove Bourque and keep the 1st in the trade. Teams usually want to keep the guys they’ve drafted in the first round

If a deal was made with Dallas I’m assuming Khudobins contract would be going to Montreal which would help. My mock trade was:
Petry, Edm 2nd (50th overall)
For
Khudobin, Dal 1st (18th overall)

Unfortunately Habs won’t get that type of return for Petry IMO. A 1st round pick and a B level prospect seems to be the market for him

Regardless of the trade and what the return value of Dubois is, I can’t see it making sense to pursue Another centre for Montreal if they already have Suzuki and are going to draft Wright. Because he’s French Canadian he’s going to be linked to Montreal no matter what but it doesn’t seem like the right fit

There’s no point in buying out Drouin. I’d let him try his luck out with St.Louis as coach and then trade him at the deadline if needed. Trading away Sean Farrell for another pick seems like a waste. Habs have enough picks, they need to give their prospects a chance. Lastly, Montreal won’t retain for multiple years on Armias contract. They’ll probably just use him for the next few years while the team rebuilds.

His contracts not even that bad.. I don’t know if he’s the best fit for Edm because they already have Hyman but let’s not discredit every single player on the habs just cuz they finished last. Can be a 30 goal scorer on a 2nd line for any team

Going after Barrie is the cheaper option if that’s the route they want to take but Petry is the closest replacement for Klingberg that you’re gonna find on the market. Myers is horrible and Vancouver fans will vouch for that. Burns is making 2mil more than Petry so if your so worried about cap than that’s another terrible move to make. Yes Petry is old but he’s the best option available for a top 2 RHD without selling the farm

Yes those types of players are NHL players, but they should be making half the money and teams don’t want those contracts against their cap. Montreal is in a position where they can keep a couple of those guys as stop-gaps until they’re ready to compete for playoffs again. But I do agree that just because Montreal was last place doesn’t mean that all their players are overpaid and have no value. Toffoli was traded for a 1st, 5th and a prospect. I see Anderson as similar trade value. Petry is old but a 3 year contract for a 34 year old at his level is better than a 8 year deal for a 28 year old IMO (Hampus Lindholm for example)

I can agree that there are A LOT of players on Montreal that have little to no trade value and in some cases negative trade value. But guys like Anderson, Dvorak, Petry and Allen are all significant adds for any team. Petry in particular for me is a player who has been Montreals best Dman (yes better than Weber) for years and if they think they can get a better deal for a Dman of Petrys caliber I’d love to see a comparable. Anderson is not a cornerstone player but in the right environment can be a 30+ goal scorer who can hit, fight, and is a great skater. These types of players don’t grow on trees. Like I said above, people are free to make rebuttles on my mock trades, I’d like to see where they stand on these types of players trade values

From scouting reports I’ve seen Nemec/Jiricek have closest comparables to Morgan Reilly/ Colten Parayko. If you look at a trade from that point of view Anderson Poehling and a 1st is a fair deal IMO. Sometimes I think people overvalue picks for the dream that they may knock it out of the park and have a perennial award winner, but in this years draft class I don’t think it’s the case.

Input on trade values is appreciated
I think the trade for Allen might be better suited for next years trade deadline. It’s very rare for teams to retain salary unless it’s at that time. If you would want Montreal to retain before that you’d probably have to take The 2nd round pick off the table. Other than that I don’t think it’s that far off

Is this a fair trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>The team still struggled with Petry being "good". MSL finished with a .432 pts percentage, which would have been good enough for 27th/32.
therealisticguy made some very valid points: "Kent Hughes said he won't give assets to another team to take Petry. So from that sentence, that means Petry has negative value." and "But after, he says if we get a decent offer for Jeff, he WILL trade him ... Then the insiders are saying 4 to 6 teams are trying to acquire Jeff Petry ... So wtf does that mean, teams would take him for 'free' but K. Hughes isn't ready to just gave him away ?" That's where I'm at. I haven't said he's "bad", what I've been saying is that I wouldn't be giving up any sort of decent assets to acquire a 35 year old dman who's under contract for 3 more years, and that while people are saying "Yeah, Dallas gets cap relief from Dobie!", Montreal is also getting MAJOR cap relief here as well.</div></div>
Dallas and Montreal are two teams at different stages. Although they haven’t said they want to go through a full rebuild, they’ve also traded away Weber Toffoli Chariot and Lehkonen. Hughes also said he wanted to trade Petry. All these signs show that they want to younger.
Dallas on the other hand haven’t shown any signs of retooling or rebuilding. With good young pieces already in the NHL and key veterans such as Pavelski Benn and Seguin (yes overpaid), they seem to want to continue to compete for a playoff spot and acquire talent that can be brought into the equation immediately.
This is a type of deal that can fill both teams need, where Montreal gets cap relief and futures, while Dallas gets a top 4 Dman where a 3 year deal isn’t as risky in comparison to the 7-8 year deals that get given out consistently (Eg. Lindholm for Boston).
