<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Yeah, just not sure they have the right mix of players. They "on paper" should have more than enough offense and really need to clear some top 9 guys for players like savoie, ostlund, kulich, rosen, so an expensive move for Pettersen is almost a Eichel in reverse.

Really it comes down to what BUF is missing. I think they have all the pieces BUT lack more two way play forwards, size/grit/physicality (especially on defense), and maybe upgrade in goal. Those are my opinions and maybe Im wrong, but with the good youngsters, great prospects and almost all the KEY pieces you need (No1 center, No2 Center, two very good scoring lines, a No1 dman, a No3 dman), but a better mix of vets/kids THROUGHOUT the lineup and a more balanced defense (I think they have too many puck rushers/movers) they will make the playoffs without a Pettersen.

If they could add a top 4 dman like Cernak and a (god forbid) Laughton/Perry/Gallagher-type to the 3rd line, (but not a Gallagher salary) and maybe a 13th forward goon type then that would fit my bill for a better mix then they have</div></div>

I agree, maybe not those exact players on line 3, but I agree to your point. The problem that I see, is that we have so many undersized skilled forwards coming, the path of least resistance for our gm will be to just try to run 3 scoring lines. Adams would literally have to move 5 or 6 forwards, just to make room for that kind of third line. I'm not optimistic that the market breaks his way if he trades those pieces. I would absolutely look to add two way players with grit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Is Benoit guaranteed a spot?

I know he looks real good in comparison to his weak defensive corps mates, but the guy is on pace for 6 pts over 80 games (with 3 in 40), I dont know in that system how someone can be so weak on that side of the puck and still be guaranteed a spot.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Oh, I don't disagree. Not a huge fan of over investing in Tanev, and if Hanifan and Tanev go they have Oesterle, Kylington as UFAs and only Weegar and Andersson.

But I just dont get the huge over infatuation with Benoit. I like him and I'd resign him in Toronto to pair with Niemala or an offensive RD, but his pure lack of ANY offensive production really stands against him as a full time/long time solution. (and this year isnt the anomaly, he has never produced, and for a non-goon player, it is shocking)</div></div>

You probably inadvertently answered the question.

Benoit is exactly the type of player Treliving loves. Analytically right now he's literally the best defensive D in the league and the worst offensive D in the league. But he's big, clears the front of the net and hits. If you go back to Tre's first press conference he's exactly what he said he wanted to add on the backend. Also McCabe has been back to playing like a #3 with Benoit. So I don't see him moving.
