I think they can get it approved. The issue is Krug not wanting to waive his NTC, not STL trying to circumvent the cap. I believe WSH also had the new deal with Orpik equivalent to whatever he would have made had he not been bought out, so the actual amount paid to Krug would be the same, just from two different sources

Yeah, it was certainly a reach at the time. But, I also think he has proven to be one of the best defensive defenseman out of that draft. So, in hindsight it isn't so bad, but there were still better options.
He is so cool and calm on the ice. His decision making is fantastic. He is mature mentally and physically, he might be the most pro ready in that regard. He can eat minutes and be trusted in important situations, too. If he can prove to be effective on the right side at the pro level I think that could rocket him up the depth charts. Third pairing would be fantastic, but I think he has upside much higher than that as a defensive d-man if everything goes right. BUT, you never really know until you know. And that goes for all prospects.

I don't think Korchinski is *that* bad defensively, he's done about as well as I expected, I don't think he was a horrible pick but he wasn't spectacular.
Same with Nazar, I don't think he was ever drafted to be a 1C, guys with that ceiling rarely fall past the top 10 (...Oliver Moore...) maybe you'd want a bit more, and obv the injury sucks, but I wouldn't be too worried about him yet
Rinzel, Allan, and Dach... yeah... I don't hate Rinzel, but Allan and Dach... when their biggest selling point is beeg/physicality, that's generally not a good sign for a high end prospect
Looking at a lot of their past drafts that seems like smth they go for a lot instead of guys with good skating or shooting or high IQ or w/e. Slaggert wasn't bad where he was taken, but Tohila, Harding, and Crevier... why... also trading for Hunter Drew is funny

I think a lot of prospects showed great progress this year. I'm very confident Korchinski will play another year of junior this year, if he has a spectacular camp I could see him getting Preseason + 9 games. But I think they will send him back to work on his game, defense and positioning as you mentioned. Nazar looked great in the few games he played, I still think he has a NHL future, but he'll play in NCAA again. Not sure what your deal is with Allen, he was just named to the all star team or whatever of the memorial cup. He's looked great in junior and I think he's ready for the AHL. I think in 2 seasons we'll see him in the NHL. Shut down defensemen are undervalued by fans but certainly still very important. His offensive game isn't as poor as you make it sound. Everyone else is still a prospect. Some will surprise you next year, some will have off years. Some will pan out, some wont. That's why we call them prospects. But the hawks have a great prospect pool, and will this year draft if will get even deeper.

I don't have a ton to add. I think this is a pretty good and objective summary. I'm 100% sending Korchinski back to Seattle. 100% agreed that we need to correct the past failures and allow these kids to develop into 2-way players at the appropriate levels before bringing them to the AHL. On that note, that's why I'm ok with Rinzel's progress. I hope it continues, but gotta see it. Can't assume it. Also 100% agreed on Nazar. He'll go back at least 1 more year. I'm not as down on Allan as it sounds above. No illusions on my end that he'll be a Norris candidate. He could be a defensive Dman though. There are places in the NHL for that role for sure. It'll take time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>Let’s look at both sides of this:
To be fair, hawks fans have all had to swallow a great deal of pride because of the scandal. Kane and toews have even gone on record to defend stan bowman the person, which is just baffling to me. Yes, they committed crimes covering this up and those people deserve their own pit in hell. However, to his point, he cheers the players and that is an important distinction. We don’t have to love the people who run the team to love the players that represent it. Me personally, I hate everyone involved with the team now. I represent the side that is so disgusted I lost my complete love for the team.
Now the other side. I don’t care what religion, politics, etc. a person believes in, nothing breaks human instinct and emotion. While I was always taught “hate” is a strong word, I recognize a few things in life that inspire such an emotion. Sports is quite possibly the most significant. I don’t care if someone wishes ill will on another, especially if that other deserves it. The hawks truly deserve it. They ruined people’s lives. Plain and simple. Wishing that Ill will is not a defect of the person wishing it, it’s a reflection of someone wishing for some decency and good in the world.
Just my opinion. Neither side is wrong. Just passionate and opinionated.</div></div>
I'll never wish ill-will on anyone and while I sympathize with fans of the Blackhawks, I am steadfast in my position to root against that team as a result of their actions. Players (Toews & Kane) knew about it and did nothing. Moreover, I will never root for a team who tanks to win the draft lottery. Same was true for the Sabres in the McDavid sweepstakes. Is it the way to get back to winning? Yeah, but come on, it's a disservice to fans everywhere.

He’s 6’4’’ and skinnier than a pencil, yet he never puts in the effort to fill out and get some muscle. Leaves him open to getting absolutely rocked.
Every hawks fan on this site knows I’ve hated this kid since before he was drafted, and that’s never changing. The least he could do is at least prove me wrong at some point. But nope, even this year with a full year under his belt, he’s nothing more than a defensive center with little offensive upside. I’m sick of the excuses, **** em.</div></div>
Yeah it's not like Turcotte, who's gotten concussed like 3 times from dirty hits. Dach just seems different than the center he was drafted as.

It’s agonizing to see this still be a debate.</div></div>
A rebuild involves Kane and Toews being traded. Thats really the only difference between this and a rebuild in my eyes. We really should probably trade them but management doesn't seem willing to and they haven't asked out yet. this post isn't what I think they should do but it's what I think they will do

Yes, the Jones deal is done, but as to the point of a left side dman, who do you get? I don’t mean to make it sound grim, but wasn’t McCabe suppose to be that guy possibly? Murphy is a fan favorite but that hasn’t exactly translated to better defense. The hawks haven’t done anything to develop any of those defensive prospects fans were so high on two and a half years ago (remember the logjam that made people pick Dach over byram?). My concern is that between Jones’ deal, McCabe’s deal, and Murphy’s deal, who are we gonna sign that’s marquee? We’re not getting chycrun (misspell I know) and I don’t foresee any top pairing left handers being readily available in free agency.
The difference between the hawks and rangers is beyond comparison. The rangers actually had players in their prime who underperformed for a year or two, which landed them even better players. The hawks have had bad drafts, bad prospects, and players past their prime to the point that they only had one top 3 pick and they botched that one. We’re nothing like the rangers sadly. We also have an inexperienced coach at the helm who whole better than JC isn’t the long term answer. I get the optimism, but the hawks aren’t in a good place.</div></div>
The hawks have two holes to fill really. #1 LD and #1 C. Yes those are huge holes to fill but we have a lot more there than like Arizona (although ironic that they just beat us), buffalo, etc. I just don't think we are as far away as teams like that are

This team should’ve hail Mary’d on Erik Karlsson when they had the chance. It’s rebuild time. The front office, coach, captain, best player(Kane), goalie are done. Whether u like it or not it’s all about watching Kane in his final years so embrace it hawks fans. It’ll be 30 years before they get another player like him.

Ponomarev is fairly high up on the canes prospect totem pole. Personally speaking, I have always been rather high on Ponomarev, and my comparison is to another Canes prospect in Drury. Ponomarev has a slightly higher floor than Drury in my opinion, but has a slightly lower ceiling than Drury. Canes are very unlikely to trade Drury, and I have never been completely sure on the future of Suzuki, whether he is in a canes jersey or not.
Keane on the other hand, is a RHD drafted by the Rangers and acquired by the Canes by trading Gauthier. It was a positional trade to help both teams. Keane has been consistently above .50 points per game in the AHL, and is looking like he is close to being ready to make the jump to the NHL. If I had to compare Keane to another canes prospect, it would probably be Lajoie, who is currently playing with the Canes as a call up due to COVID protocol. It is currently looking like Hiemosalmi will end up being better in the future than Keane, but Keane will likely crack the NHL before Heimosalmi.
Keane if needed, could probably provide immediate help on the blue line, and Suzuki might be ready for an NHL role by next season, and Ponomarev might be ready next year, but will most likely end up taking at least 2 more years to develop.
