how the 2019 would have gone if Caufield is 5 11

Due respect, that excuse is getting old. Time for him to take responsibility for those injuries and set backs. He acted like a child and begged to play in the WJC, then he gets injured in a WARM UP GAME, not even the tournament. He’s 6’4’’ and skinnier than a pencil, yet he never puts in the effort to fill out and get some muscle. Leaves him open to getting absolutely rocked.
Every hawks fan on this site knows I’ve hated this kid since before he was drafted, and that’s never changing. The least he could do is at least prove me wrong at some point. But nope, even this year with a full year under his belt, he’s nothing more than a defensive center with little offensive upside. I’m sick of the excuses, **** em.

I think Dach may just need a change of scenery and that wrist injury may have delayed his development. He's still young enough and is a right shot, which we need.</div></div>
Could be the case, but the hawks ruined his development themselves. He never shoulda been in the NHL right away. He never dominated juniors consistently on offense and his faceoffs have always been awful. His wrist injury is even worse when you consider it was against a non NHLer in WJC WARM
UP GAME!!!!!
Point I’m making is, sure he’s young, but between bad coaching and even worse development, he’s behind the curve and he really needs a team to step and teach him the right tools. He’s not gonna thrive with the hawks. Granted, I never liked him and said way back when he was drafted that he was a mistake, but I’ve been dying for him to prove me wrong. It’s very frustrating that it’s never happened.

You will have to include Kirby Dach in any PLD trade.</div></div>
If Dach is the only difference, I’ll drive to the airport for ya. Take him, I can’t believe he still holds great value anymore. If you really wanna make him the showpiece going your way, you’re letting the hawks off easy.

Dach is still too high, should be lower, absolute waste of potential. Couldn’t stand since the day we drafted him.

Chicago Rebuild
Kane and cat are both not worth nearly that much. That’s coming from a hawks fan. Kane hasn’t got many years left and his off ice persona is a joke, while cat’s career is pretty inflated thanks to playing with Kane. Nowhere in the multiverse are either man worth 4 1st rounders a piece.

Big Sell
I feel like hawks fans need to preface every acgm with the notice that we overvalue our players like crazy. There’s no reality in the multiverse where any one of these trades would ever be possible. The sad truth for hawks fans is that it’s time to buckle up for the rebuild and pain that’s already started.
Kane and toews, for all their accomplishments, are clearly fighting over control of the one the brain cell they share if they think they can win soon in this rebuild. The kings suffered for the three years before this season, which Kane and toews must have forgotten. Meanwhile, the rangers are the rare case where lottery luck and good signings/trades made a difference. Funny how in the rangers’ case a good GM is necessary huh?
The hawks have messed up trades, signings, draft picks, and development on so many levels these last 5 years. Just accept the reset and rebuild or get the hell out of Chicago. With all due respect, considering the disgrace our franchise became in the assault case, we deserve the pain. So just shut up, take the pain, and build the right way.

Given his injury, how in the world does Murphy hold nearly 1st round pick plus value? One good hit on Murphy and he’s shelved for weeks at a time. Just doesn’t seem like a prudent investment for a team to make.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>Yeah its fair to say that he hasn't been playing the best as of late, but its hard to wonder just how much of that development was lost under a hopeless coach and a broken wrist. Im not sure Zegras would have as much confidence as he does if he didnt have the full support of a coach who actually knows what hes doing and had an organization send him to college for a year and then spend another half a year in the AHL instead of forcing him through to the NHL first. Believe me, Im less than impressed with Dach, but at this point, with how many top picks we've screwed up over the past 5 years, do you think drafting anyone else would have turned out as good as they have?</div></div>
I definitely don’t disagree with you. We would have probably messed up whoever we picked. However, all I remember for the last three years is how it was virtually impossible for Dach to fail according to all our fellow hawks fans on this site. That never sat well with me.
To your point about coaching or development though, that’s part of the issue I tend not to justify. At least not with Dach. With reichel, boqvist, beaudin, or Mitchell, I totally get it. With Dach though, he was #3 overall and at that position of “too big to fail.” I understand that coaches make a huge difference, but that doesn’t explain how jack hughes is all of a sudden playing #1 overall hockey now. Dach was trusted to go straight to the NHL, and was decent at ABSOLUTE best. Since then, he’s been nothing but awful. Coaches can’t teach players mentality in my opinion, that’s something you have to learn on your own. Hughes is reaching those levels cuz he’s finally playing the way he knows how to. Dach, on the other hand, is the worst kind of player. He’s been blessed with size and hands, but plays with such fear and timidness you’d think he was 5’9’’ and barely 170 lbs. out there. This is why I never wanted Dach. His time in juniors constantly showed why his getzlaf comparison was total B.S. back then. He never showed drive, or aggression, or even strength. He just thought he’d get away with being Mario lemieux.
To your point of his wrist, I really hope that isn’t a long term issue like it’s been made to be. Unfortunately, he broke his own wrist on that play, and it wasn’t even against professionals. I just hope the hawks’ sake, we don’t look back and say, “can you believe we ruined a career because a child in the NHL complained and wanted to play at the World ****ing Juniors?!”

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aussie_Blackhawk</b></div><div>Hes a bigger body also. A patient route is needed with his development. Still 21 and had a lot thrown at him from a young age and was rushed into the majors.</div></div>
Only reason I’m asking the question now is because long back when I said he was the wrong pick, others said you gotta give it three and we’ll see where others are compared to him. Well, we’re at that point and I can name ten players in that draft we’d have been better off with let alone are indeed better than Dach.

Retool not rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sound_arguments</b></div><div>Not really. They have NMC clauses. Willingness of management has nothing to do with it. Plus, their contracts are up after next year, and tearing down doesn't have to happen in one season. Also "re-tool" implies an effort to make the team better -- this team looks worse. Soderblom is not ready, and Lankinen needs help back there. If trading Kane and Toews is the difference between a rebuild and a retool, does that mean that Anaheim and LA didn't rebuild because they still have Getzlaf and Doughty, respectively? Those words are just social constructs -- doesn't matter much what you call it. Blackhawks are in bad shape and need to make moves that will help them develop elite players . . . that will take a lot of time.</div></div>
Putting aside the fact that I agree completely that the hawks are in trouble for a while, I love that you actually turned that answer into sociology lesson. Well played.

Should the Rangers Trade Kakko and Lafreniere
Purely on the face of the trade itself, few things.
Number one, this trade would basically be two wingers for two wingers. Dach isn’t a center. His offense sucks, he’s terrible on faceoffs, and he doesn’t shoot. Number two, Cat alone would probably be worth this or a little more maybe. Big problem with his value is that his production is solely tied to his teammates on his line. So it’s touchy. Number three, the rangers are in a position where they don’t need to think trade on these two. The hawks though, aren’t going anywhere for a few years and do have to consider whether or not it’s time to sell.
This is a trade, unless it’s Kane going to the rangers, that is completely undoable.

That’s a tough one! Hughes may get the edge purely for time in the NHL, but at least zegras for me might be the best player in this draft so far. He’s EXACTLY what he was suppose to be. Hughes may still be #1, but zegras winning the Calder this year AND getting the ducks to the playoffs may end the debate for me.
