Who'd you guys think was better between Mitch Marner and prime Phil Kessel? (Please vote)</div></div>

How is this even a question? Kessel is the much better player, it’s not even close. He’s carried his teams to Stanley Cups &amp; was a consistent 30 goal scorer for over a decade. I’d take that every time. It’s comical how you people vastly overrated Marner. He is not special at all. The only thing he does is earn assists. No one cares about assists. It’s the most worthless &amp; easiest stat to earn. When you watch him play, it’s clear he doesn’t have the ability to play in the NHL. He’s too physically weak yet doesn’t have the talent to make up for it. He just throws the puck into a random area for Matthews to get him results. I don’t know how anyone can argue against that. If he wasn’t being carried by Matthews, he’s be in the AHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>Well, I’ll take a more hands, less insulting approach in my response.

Respectfully, saying Keith is overrated is a little heavy handed. I’ll admit that some of statistics (assists especially) are helped along by the offensive studs this team had. As for his turnovers and passing, I would ask if you had numbers on the turnovers. Not questioning you, just would love to see numbers. His passing, in my opinion hasn’t always been as bad as you say. He use to be an amazing stretch passer in his prime. The 2015 playoffs was him putting on a show as well.

So while I don’t necessarily agree with your assessment, I won’t shoot it down at all. This team was stacked for years. But I also believe Keith was a big part of that with his leadership and his insane work rate (28-30 minutes a night ain’t easy). But I’m curious as to anything else you could add that missing.</div></div>

Keith averages 93 turnovers a season, which is not bad compared to other offensive defenceman, but still not good considering he was mostly used in the offensive zone &amp; always shared the ice with Kane who's one of the best possession drivers in the history of the game. Too often his reputation has been overblown by the fact that he played a ton of minutes on cup teams. Given the talent on the roster throughout the lineup, anyone could've done what he's done. The team always gets outshot when Keith is on the ice. Always.

It's one thing saying he looks bad defensively. He looks bad in general, but overall, he's a DAMN fine player in both ends analytically. Slavin's analytics are horrible compared to Dougie's, both offensively and defensively.</div></div>

Your stats are flawed then. Before he came to Carolina to play with Slavin, he had an xG% never above 20. He had always had a shot differential of below 40% &amp; scoring chance differential below 46. That’s taking into account all the top PP minutes he gets as well as mostly offensive zone starts. Just admit it, he ain’t a good defenseman. In an ideal world, you want Pesce playing over him.
