This. Marner is absolute garbage. The only reason the guy has an NHL career is because he’s playing with a franchise center in Matthews &amp; now everyone is thinking he’s the next Patrick Kane. Canadians are the best at overrating their players.

The stupidity of this takes makes me wonder if you’re trolling or just plain stupid. “Kessel needs good linemates to shine?” Are you high? In Toronto he was playing on a line with 2 garbage players in Bozak &amp; Lupul every season yet he was consistently scoring 35 goals &amp; a point per game. Also, when he was in Pittsburgh, it was him carrying Malkin, not the other way around. All Malkin did was float around &amp; take lazy penalties.

“Marner makes other players around him better.”

Are you drunk? The only reason Marner is in the NHL is because he’s getting carried by Matthews.

Who'd you guys think was better between Mitch Marner and prime Phil Kessel? (Please vote)</div></div>

How is this even a question? Kessel is the much better player, it’s not even close. He’s carried his teams to Stanley Cups &amp; was a consistent 30 goal scorer for over a decade. I’d take that every time. It’s comical how you people vastly overrated Marner. He is not special at all. The only thing he does is earn assists. No one cares about assists. It’s the most worthless &amp; easiest stat to earn. When you watch him play, it’s clear he doesn’t have the ability to play in the NHL. He’s too physically weak yet doesn’t have the talent to make up for it. He just throws the puck into a random area for Matthews to get him results. I don’t know how anyone can argue against that. If he wasn’t being carried by Matthews, he’s be in the AHL.

Keith averages 93 turnovers a season, which is not bad compared to other offensive defenceman, but still not good considering he was mostly used in the offensive zone &amp; always shared the ice with Kane who's one of the best possession drivers in the history of the game. Too often his reputation has been overblown by the fact that he played a ton of minutes on cup teams. Given the talent on the roster throughout the lineup, anyone could've done what he's done. The team always gets outshot when Keith is on the ice. Always.

Just because you watched him when he was a child does not make him elite. It's about what you do at the top level &amp; Keith was nonsencial. He costed us so often with his lack of discipline and poor defensive ability. Take a look at the stats. When he's on the ice, team gets outplayed.

If you think Keith was a good defenceman, then you don't know what you're watching. Whenever he's on the ice the team gets stuck in their own end. That was especially the case during the 2015 cup run which makes his Conn Smythe even more of a joke. Kane was the best player by far in all 3 cup runs. Just because you score a lot of points and play a ton of minutes it doesn't make you elite. You actually have to get results &amp; Keith isn't capable of doing so.

You just can’t ignore that fact. Kane is a generational player. The only reason why people don’t realize that is because they are biased towards Canadians &amp; europeans. They envy the US for being the best county at hockey.

The reason why no one has stopped Ovechkin from scoring is because they don’t want to. Honestly, if they really want to stop him, they would’ve done it easily since all he does is stand there. They simply don’t regard him as an important opponent to stop &amp; could care less if he scored. That’s the truth. If Ovechkin’s goals actually mattered, he would’ve won more than just 1 cup in his 15 seasons. He is only playing for himself to break the goal scoring record.

Also, the vast majority of his goals are on the powerplay, which makes them even more meaningless. You have to actually be able to impact play at 5v5 &amp; clearly he doesn’t do that.

I’d take Kyle Connor, Alex DeBrincat &amp; Jake Guentzel all ahead of Ovie.

Your stats are flawed then. Before he came to Carolina to play with Slavin, he had an xG% never above 20. He had always had a shot differential of below 40% &amp; scoring chance differential below 46. That’s taking into account all the top PP minutes he gets as well as mostly offensive zone starts. Just admit it, he ain’t a good defenseman. In an ideal world, you want Pesce playing over him.
